In War of Words, Iran Calls US a 'Military Dictatorship'
Locked in a sharpening confrontation with the United States, Iran on Tuesday rejected an assertion by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton that it was becoming a military dictatorship, saying America itself answered to that description.
The foreign minister, Manouchehr Mottaki, "raised questions about the United States military dictatorship in the region," the English-language Press TV broadcaster said, accusing Washington of practicing "modern deceit" and using "fake words" to disguise its intentions in the Persian Gulf area.
On Monday, Mrs. Clinton said Washington fears that Iran is drifting toward a military dictatorship with the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps assuming ever greater political, military and economic power.
But, in Tehran on Tuesday, Mr. Mottaki said: "We are regretful that the U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton tries to conceal facts about the stance of the U.S. administration through fake words," Press TV said.
Mr. Mottaki was speaking at a news conference alongside his visiting Turkish counterpart, Ahmet Davutoglu.
He also accused Washington of interfering in the internal affairs of other states, by undermining their "scientific and technological achievements," an apparent reference to Iran's nuclear program which the United States and its allies suspect is designed to build nuclear weapons. Iran says the program is for peaceful purposes permitted under international law.
"Those who have been the very symbol of military dictatorships over the past decades, since the Vietnam war until now, see everyone else in the same way," The Associated Press quoted Mr. Mottaki as saying. Mrs. Clinton's current visit to the region, he said, was "overflowing with contradictions and incorrect actions."
On Monday, Mrs. Clinton encouraged Iran's religious and political leaders to rise up against the Revolutionary Guards, coming as close as any senior administration official has to inviting political upheaval in the country. She chose to issue the call in Doha, Qatar, just across the waters of the Persian Gulf from Iran itself.
"We see that the government of Iran, the supreme leader, the president, the Parliament is being supplanted and that Iran is moving toward a military dictatorship," Mrs. Clinton said.
Her visit was seen as part of the Obama administration's attempt to shore up support for more stringent sanctions directed at the Revolutionary Guard Corps. But Mr. Mottaki urged Russia and China not to follow Washington's lead, The A.P. said.
While China has offered steady resistance to the idea of stricter sanctions against Iran, which supplies oil to Beijing, Russia's stance has seemed slightly more ambivalent. News reports Tuesday quoted a Kremlin spokesman as urging Iran to ally international fears about its nuclear program if it wished to avoid tougher penalties imposed by the United Nations Security Council.

This is NEWS ???
I will restrain myself and not call Mrs. Clinton every name swirling around in my head.
"Fake words."
An interesting way of describing the Orwellian crap that spews from the U.S. propaganda machine. The fakery goes far beyond words, however.
I sometimes wonder how Ms Clinton and other perpetrators are themselves able to stomach the putrid garbage that they represent and vomit forth upon the world. I suppose incessant practice helps. Even so, there must be considerable amounts of self-deluding psychosis and perfumery involved.
RV; "self-deluding psychosis." Since the majority of the U.S. population suffers from that psychosis when it comes to our foreign affairs, why shouldn't our "leaders" as well be afflicted with it?
In the case of her advocacy of regime change, that is hardly even "fakery" but the very bald-faced policy of the United States. Whether it's promoting "democracy" or countering "military dictatorships," regime changes R us.
To become a politician, you must leave all truth, all word meaning, behind. Expedience becomes the rule of life.
As usual Ahmadinejad is absolutely correct. We are promoting
sanctions and harassing them any way we can, not for the Iranian
people but to replay the 1953 Coup that installed a western
controlled dictator so we could steal their Oil. Doing that will
give the US control over debt settlement terms for Iranian oil. By
forcing that back to the US dollar we will be able to force other
countries to traffic in US debt e.g. T Bills thereby maintaining
US dollar hegemony and forcing other countries to underwrite our
deficit spending. Nothing has changed. Ahmadinejad is just stating
the obvious. The added goal is to insert a lever of power into the
Chinese economy by controlling their access to oil. The fact that
ANYONE anywhere with a pulse actually believes the preposterous
notion that Iran is some sort of threat to anyone that doesn't
attack them is beyond comprehension to me.
EXACTLY
that is the ENTIRE story of this wardrums USA beating against iran...
trying to pick up where the USA/CIA left off decades ago - first with toppling the highly respected Mossadegh who nationalized iran's oil and gas to kick out the US and British petroleum companies gobbling up the profits , then with installing the SHAH as the USA's Pit Bull to "open up iran" for US corporate interests...and then all were kicked out from the consequences of their own filthy meddling and exploitation by the resulting frustration of iranians to "recall" the Ayatollah Khomeini...
these are all consequences of US meddling in what was then in the 1950's the most advanced and democratic society in the middle east.
and the USA simply can't stop its addiction to its imperial reaching and to exploit other countries for their resources.
it's the same as it ever was...from day one against the Native Indians to 2010.
Iran calls em' likes they sees em'....
Hilary Rodham Klanton and the US minister of "information, emphasis on the Klan as with her husband who had a retarded black kid executed to get the lion's share of the Klan vote in that 1992 election, has spoken the Orwellian lies and propaganda right out of the 1984 scenario. Now we have seen the lie and we must see it for just what it is. Then we should know the truth about her and the rest of the neo con liars for hire, and that truth will set us all free. Then someone could do the very necessary deed and fire this jack ass from her office, doing all the people of the USA and all humanity a service.

Much as I loath those little snails that rule Iran, I'm afraid Iran are right.
It's about time Iran tells the U.S. world bullies what they really are. Too bad, the Iranians did not go further in exposing U.S. imperialism, its stratospheric military budget (which includes fresh funds for nuclear weapons), and the dictatorial implications that such a -- never questioned or even discussed in Congress -- budget carries with it for the domestic political situation.
Professional liars like Clinton wouldn't know the truth if it fell on them.
The U.S. has become a military dictatorship, or worse, and Clinton is just hustling up another war for us to waste our money and lives on.
Is the CIA assessment that Iran has no nuclear weapons program still current?
Let's hope the IPCC doesn't put the NIE together.
Last NIE I saw was 2007. I don't believe the President(s) have asked for a NIE since. If I'm wrong, let me know.
If I'm right, I guess the NIE is pretty much out of date. However, the IAEA assessment is current, and fits right in with the 2007 NIE. In other words, Iran is nuclear weapons "clean".
Thanks WTF 1:51
Look at their faces, look at the faces of Obomber, Hillary, Cheney, Rove, ( Possibly the chimp is less effected because he is simply too simple)
Look at their faces and see the ugliness of promoting mass death because of a vicious greed.
It's too bad we don't have a Swine-MindGoneAwry Vaccine for everyone in the Executive branch, Legislative branch, Legal Justice branch before they raise their right hands and swear on the Bible with their left hands to preserve, protect and defend The Federal and their respective State Constitutions to the best of their abilities ... before they take office.
As it stands now, once past the political campaigns and these folks get into office as elected officials or appointees, just about all seem to succumb to the virulent infection of MindGoneAwry or in short form, INSANITY.

The rewards must be sweet for so many to willingly immerse themselves in a moral sewer and drink it in.
The US spends more for wars of agression than the rest of the planet combined.
I just heard Israel declaring that the moon is sqaure. I wonder when this AIPAC's whore is going to spout that to the world?
The US is now an increasingly a militarized POLICE STATE with a warmongering budget greater than the whole world combined and with a daily erosion of even basic human rights and use military tribunals to suppress dissent. The defence and police state (homeland insecurity) budgets consume almost 70% of the federal budget. The US military and "terror" paranoia apparatus eats up alomst $1.2 trillion on lost wars, intelligence (or lack of it), wasteful weapons, unlawful suveillance of citizens, NSA eavsdropping, 700 global gulags, torture sites, Gitmo, waterboarding facilities and other "democratic" and "human rights" promotion activities.
Hillary, Hillary,Hillary. You have it backwards because you are nothing but a corrupt politician, a quisling, a war mongering fool. How would you like it if the Iranian government asked the American people; its religious and political leaders; to rise up against you and the rest of America's military and corrupt leaders!
Must we wait for Iran to ask us to do the right thing?
Ahmedinejad's response to Clinton's "military dictatorship" comment was hilarious. With that infamous smile on his face, he simply replied "We don't take her seriously. She doesn't even seem to be on the same agenda as Obama most of the time."
ROFLMAO!
From the article:
"On Monday, Mrs. Clinton said Washington fears that Iran is drifting toward a military dictatorship with the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps assuming ever greater political, military and economic power."
Substitute the Chinese Red Army for "the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps" in that sentence and you've got a similar arrangement. In both the Chinese and Iranian systems portions of the military act like vertical monopoly corporations. They set a goal, seek control of all the processes required to achieve that goal, and then are results-driven. In both systems they are overseen by a Supreme Council (by whatever name, or even no name) and a figurehead "leader," such as Ahmedinejad in the case or Iran, or Obama in the United States!
Secretary of State Clinton is clearly attempting to meddle in the internal affairs of Iran by trying to provoke a popular uprising, just as George HW Bush did right after the first Iraq War when he implied that if the Shi'ites would rise up against Saddam they would receive U.S. backing, with disastrous results.
Imperialist hubris.

On a kind of related story about military dictatorships, it's not looking good for Ms Clinton, or the US these days. It is reported that a hand to hand fight broke out between the US ambassador to Qatar, Joseph LeBaron, and the Turkish advisor during a meeting between Hillary and Turkish president Erdogan in Qatar on the 14th Feb.
http://news.am/en/news/14346.html
And there's more news in the war against "military dictatorships". The Greeks are at it again and they just bombed the offices of American financial services firm JPMorgan Chase & Co in Athens.
I have a guess that the greeks are seeing it as a connection between ANY american banking institution and Golman Sachs - which , it was revealed recently , was DEEPLY INVOLVED in giving "advice" and selling "financial products" the government of Greece - when the Debt was piling up since 2000 -- and that Goldman Sach's similarly structured fake products as with the Wall Street Banking and Investment Collapse was the primary reason that the Greek government, looking for a way out , actually was trapped into a spiral that WORSENED their debt.
i think the greeks are very aware of this now, once it was revealed.
as it goes - the European Debt - according to writers and analysts OUTSIDE of teh mainstream american media - "is NOT THAT BAD" and that is why though it is a problem - the greeks are not asking for a bail-out at all..but a restructuring of their debt.
The bombing has received almost zero coverage here in the US. About the best that could be found was a single paragraph on the online WSJ:

Well! If Commondreams is any reflection of the way Progressives/Democrats/Liberals are thinking these days, it is pretty clear (at least if this thread is any indication!) that the average intelligent American who is "in the know" these days isn't buying all of Clinton's/Obama's/Reid's/Pelosi's/Axelrod's/Emanuel's bullshit.
One thing I keep wondering is why it is that Ahmedinejad never seems to mention the fact that Israel already HAS nuclear weapons, they are being hidden from the rest of the world, Israel refuses to allow U.N. inspections and refuses to become a signatory to the nuclear non-proliferation treaty.
I think we need to start organizing street actions to become more publicly vocal against any military action against Iran OR CIA backed covert infiltration of their society for the purpose of instigating revolution.
Imagine the uprising from the American people if Iranian secret service were in the U.S. trying to get us to overthrow the MIC/Obama!
If Pat Buchanan's latest essay were a bullet, it would cleave Clinton's head in two, http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article24700.htm
"But wait a minute. If Iran does not 'have the capability' to enrich to 20 percent for fuel rods, how can Iran enrich to 90 percent for a bomb?"
I can't really imagine any muslim country taking Hillary Clinton seriously. She is, after all a woman. Just her arriving is an insult.
She's shown that she's a very glib liar and her "tough broad" act is just an act.
Hopefully she'll die soon.
I have often pondered this. It is so draconian that Muslim countries treat women so, but it was ignorant and juvenile that Obama chose a woman to represent the US in negotiating with Muslim countries at such a hair-trigger moment in history.
To repeat another thread here on CD: Obama is clueless.
Clinton is a chicken hawk like Cheney and is working for her friends in the christian zionist cults where she prays.
If the shoe fits, wear it. If not, throw it.
To karloff1:
Exactly.
To Pippilin:
Lately I've been collecting shoes, and they don't all fit.
