Anti-Obama Billboard Stirs Controversy
WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. - Call it Freedom of Speech. A billboard recently erected in Wheat Ridge compares President Barack Obama to a terrorist and questions his U.S. citizenship.

It also says "BIRTH CERTIFICATE - PROVE IT!" alluding to the conspiracy theory which claims Barack Obama was born in Kenya rather than Hawaii, which would disqualify him for the office of President.
The words "WAKE UP AMERICA! REMEMBER FT. HOOD!" appear on the bottom of the billboard.
The sign belongs to a car dealership.
"Since Fort Hood, I've had it," owner Phil West told FOX 31 News Friday. "You can't suggest things. You can't profile. You gotta call a spade a spade."
"Everything I have read about Mr. Obama points right to the fact that he is a Muslim. And that is the agenda of what Muslim is all about. It's about anti-American, it's about anti-Christianity," West said.
The Anti-Defamation League condemned the sign, as did AM760 radio host David Sirota, who discussed the sign and interviewed West on his program Friday morning.
"It's out of control," Sirota said. "This conservative hatred of Barack Obama is out of contol, and this brings together all those strands of it: the racism, the anti-Muslim fervor. It's one thing to criticise the president on health care, or Wall Street reform, or immigration. But this is outrageous. And I think it's a fair question to ask why these questions about religion and ancestry are being directed so viciously at the first African-American President of the United States."
While the ADL issued a statement calling the billboard an exploitation of the Ft. Hood shootings that is "divisive and offensive, and perpetuates hateful and harmful stereotypes about Muslims", prominent conservatives have been silent thus far.
"That could suggest that conservative leaders are afraid to confront the extreme fringe of their base," Sirota said. "Or it suggests they actually condone this message. Either way, it's disturbing."
Sirota is an unabashed liberal, but not all self-identified conservatives who drove past the sign Friday disagree with him.
"I'm not concerned with that at all," said Linda Alexander, of Golden, in regard to the dispute over President Obama's American citizenship. "He was elected, he's the president -- that's it, as far as I'm concerned. Some people just can't accept that, obviously."
But Keith Walters, another passing driver, saw nothing wrong with the billboard.
"I can't honestly say he's a Jihadist, but there's a lot of things that are questionable," Walters said. "The whole birth certificate controversy. From what I've read, there's no proof Obama isn't a Muslim. And I don't believe there's any racism [in the billboard]. I think that should be a question asked to any president who -- they have some questionable backgrounds."

I want to apologize to the Obama family for the ignorant, vicious white people in this country, who "know not what they do". They have been raised to hate, and that's all they know. They pass it down from one generation to the next, keeping up the family tradition. I grew up with people like that, and I know how hardened they are, and violence is just beneath the surface. What can be done? We live in perilous times, and we are faced with hard choices. For the sake of all that is precious, it is imperative that we find the courage to make the right ones.

Obamabots are really something. The candidate has turned out to be a complete coward on everything failing all his campaign promises, yet they rationalize and offer bizarre excuses for him as if he were some needy child swaddled in a blanket. He should not hold the office if he cannot obey the law or grow a backbone and try to restore the country back to it's peaceful origin (policy of avoiding foreign wars by the first three presidents.)
I recognize the Constitution and the Bill of Rights as the legitimate supreme law of the land. I recognize the Geneva convention as the highest law in the land (treaties have that status.) No law or president who violates these should escape impeachment or repeal.
Being a coward and enabling outlaw behavior seems to be this president's only hallmarks.

(f) Subject to this section, the department may direct its local agents to make a return upon filing of birth, death, and fetal death certificates with them, of certain data shown to federal, state, territorial, county, or municipal agencies. Payment by these agencies for these services may be made as the department shall direct.
(g) The department shall not issue a verification in lieu of a certified copy of any such record, or any part thereof, unless it is satisfied that the applicant requesting a verification is:
(1) A person who has a direct and tangible interest in the record but requests a verification in lieu of a certified copy;
(2) A governmental agency or organization who for a legitimate government purpose maintains and needs to update official lists of persons in the ordinary course of the agency’s or organization’s activities;
(3) A governmental, private, social, or educational agency or organization who seeks confirmation of a certified copy of any such record submitted in support of or information provided about a vital event relating to any such record and contained in an official application made in the ordinary course of the agency’s or organization’s activities by an individual seeking employment with, entrance to, or the services or products of the agency or organization;
(4) A private or government attorney who seeks to confirm information about a vital event relating to any such record which was acquired during the course of or for purposes of legal proceedings; or
(5) An individual employed, endorsed, or sponsored by a governmental, private, social, or educational agency or organization who seeks to confirm information about a vital event relating to any such record in preparation of reports or publications by the agency or organization for research or educational purposes. I think you are legally wrong. You cannot "slander" or "defame" a public figure by poking fun at him. Public figures are fair game for cartoonists, opinion papers, and any other form of writing or display. Hundreds of years of North American precedent attest to this. It is protected speech under the first amendment.

Checking into GWB's service records (which were sealed by daddy) led to the Commanding Officer of the Alabama National Guard, who I flew with, to put up a website saying GWB never showed up. I think it's very possible, that BO was born in Kenya and his mother proceeded to Honolulu to get him a birth certificate. But BO airing such a certificate might lead to the disqualifying specter of documents not matching up date-wise with travel and immigration records. There must be more to BO's birth or some kind of hospital or travel record would be forthcoming out of the administration.
I don't follow your Ft Hood comments. Islamic paranoia by the billboard owner is disgusting, but tolerance of it is necessary in a free society. In the 1800's candidates were equally accused of being the devil, and of fathering bastards with abandon (claims that were often fabricated).

I honestly couldn't care less where Obama was born. A Hawaii newspaper announced his birth. I have a strange feeling that the "birthers" would be quiet if Arnold Schwarzenegger became president.
I used to live in Colorado in the early 1960's and skiied there regularly throughout the 1970's. I then worked for a GIS company out of Denver during the latter 80's and early 90's. The people of Colorado seemed to be pretty decent folks with a fairly progressive attitude toward everything from politics to environmentalism. Lately we have blowhards such as James Dobson and Ted Haggard as well as idiots such as this that posted this billboard. One question...what has happened to "Wonderful Colorado?"
There is most definitely still a rightwing hotspot in Colorado Springs, where "Focus on the Family" and others still flourish, but that's been the case for decades.
Here's what's happening here in Colorado: in the 2004 election the Republicans were completely swept out of power: both the Governorship and the entire state legislature. Recreational marijuana was decriminalized in Denver (though the Feds balked and it's still in writing only) and medical marijuana was legalized statewide. An anti-choice amendment was defeated 75% to 25%. At the recent Western Regional Amnesty International USA Conference, Colorado had by FAR the largest contingency- even larger than California, despite the conference being held in San Francisco. The University of Colorado has a larger number of graduates in the Peace Corps than any other college or university.
What happened here is that a single used car dealership bought a single billboard sign.

let the rabble bark. letting off steam is what keeps the kettle of democracy from imploding. it's good to know who all the idiots are. no need to make 'em go underground. but how can obama be a jihadist when he is bennie's whipping boy? he can't keep netanyahou from tearing up arab homes in jerusalem and expanding israeli sttlements on the west bank. a weak president, he is the best friend israel ever had, with his israeli army buddy rahm emanuel sitting right beside him. all they're doing is insuring the enmity of future generations of palestinians and endless war in the middle east. eisenhower would never have let this sort of thing happen! israel, a nation of ten million, has rendered a country 30 times its size virtually impotent to look after its own foreign policy interests. awfully amazing!
Accuse the President and maybe sell a few cars while he's at it.
