Netanyahu Rejects US Call on Building
ISRAELI PRIME minister Binyamin Netanyahu yesterday rejected American calls to halt Jewish construction in Arab east Jerusalem, stressing that Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem was not up for discussion.
Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addresses the weekly cabinet meeting in Jerusalem July 19, 2009. Netanyahu, saying he would not take orders over Israeli settlement in East Jerusalem, rejected on Sunday a U.S. demand to halt plans to build more homes for Jews in the disputed area. (REUTERS/David Silverman/Pool) His comments at the weekly Israeli cabinet meeting came after Israel's ambassador to Washington, Michael Oren, was summoned to the state department and told that the Obama administration opposed Israeli plans to build at the site of the historic Shepherd's hotel in the capital's Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood.
The latest dispute between Washington and Jerusalem follows months of tension over the American demand that Israel stop all building on West Bank Jewish settlements.
Contacts between the sides continue, but so far no compromise has been reached.
Mr Netanyahu told ministers that Jerusalem is the unified capital of Israel, and just as Arabs can purchase buildings in the western, Jewish areas, there is no ban on Jews buying or building apartments in the Arab, eastern part of the city.
"This is the policy of an open city, an undivided city that has no separation according to religion or national affiliation," he stressed.
State department officials intervened following warnings from Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas that Israeli construction in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood would alter the demographic balance in Israel's capital.
Israel captured Arab east Jerusalem during the 1967 Arab-Israeli Six-Day war. The Palestinians demand the eastern part of the city as their future capital .
Israel plans to build twenty apartments at the site, which formally belonged to the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al Hussein.
The land was purchased by American Jewish businessman Irwin Moskowitz, who has purchased Arab property at various locations in east Jerusalem for development by Jewish settler groups. The site was recently used as a base by the Israeli border police.
Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat warned that the Israeli plans could torpedo efforts to renew peace talks.

Show AllWhen Israeli officials say that "Jerusalem is the unified capital of Israel," are they making the law or just patiently explaining it to 'the rest of us?'
Israel, and its followers, make up rules as they go. As Sharon said, "Do not worry about the US, we own them". Or something to that effect.
For people who are still thinking that the US of A has a government representing the American people, think again. When you have a son of a terrorist as a chief of staff in the White House, its quite obvious that the the US has been taken over by a foreign entity. With most of congress being zionist or zionist sympathizers, there is a major problem. When other minority religious holidays are not celebrated, why is it that the congress has a day off on a Jewish holiday?
The US of A has been silently taken over by a foreign govt. It is the US of I. The world sees it as such. Only the sheeples in the US has not realized it yet.

A fabricated quote, of course, but why bother with the facts? It's an old story, see

As for the rest of this post and especially the comment about the Jewish holldays, yes, there are many Jews in congress - is this a problem? Bigot.
Ha-ha-ha!
mahmed the Zionist called someone a bigot.
That there are Jews in congress is not a problem.
That there are Zionists destroying the US for their perceived good of Israel IS a problem.
And by the way, the claim of bigotry is still laughable, but definitely getting old. Got any new jokes?

bigot = One who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.

It is clear that Horrified is a bigot toward Zionists. So what's your problem, Wanderer?
"It is clear that Horrified is a bigot toward Zionists. So what's your problem, Wanderer?"
You Zionists make me want to throw up.
So in WWII the Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals etc. were BIGOTED against the Nazis. Astounding.
You Zionists STINK of hypocrisy and you are moral monsters.
Including the fact that on a daily basis you work to destroy the very ability to have moral conversations
by appropriating the language of morality to use for your own purposes.
This destruction of the language of morality is the truest evil.
Israel is nothing more than an illegal and immoral invasion, and I applaud those "bigots" that refuse to accept the moral monstrosity of the genocidal invasion and occupation.
> So in WWII the Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals etc. were BIGOTED against the Nazis.
What do you mean to say by this? That horrified's comment should have been compared to the actions of the Nazis? I wouldn't go that far.
However if you insist that bigotry doesn't quite capture what's wrong with that comment, I agree. It's bigotry against Israel's supporters, but it's also anti-semitic. Let me be very clear, criticism of Israel is not equal to anti-semitism. However the following sentence from Horrified's comment is classic anti-semitic rhetoric.
> When other minority religious holidays are not celebrated, why is it that the congress has a day off on a Jewish holiday?
Bibi pipis on Obama.
I think that the White House is becoming more aware since Netanyahoo called Obama's advisors "Self Hating Jews".
I see the only way to peace is first to cut off all the free money we give them.
Only then will the heart of the problem be in the open.
The heart is:
Palestinians need to Unite and negotiate a free Palestine with a contiguous border.
A country cannot exist cut up and divided like Israel has done.
This is a monumental task... kind of like waiting for Progressives in the US to get together.
Too late - the Zionists have pissed away the two state solution.
Soon they will piss away the one-state solution.
Yet another provocation that Netanyahu has flung at Pres. Obama.
Some sort of action rather than words is required - it's "put-up or shut up" time.
The consequences of Israeli rejection of the US 'suggestion' to curtail if not reverse its policy in East Jerusalem will demonstrate far more accurately than words the character of the national relationship between Israel and the US.
If the Obama Administration is serious about its objections concerning what is in essence an Israeli occupation of East Jerusalem, then it will apply real pressure - like halting any economic and military assistance to Israel - and not just the inevitable public hand-wringing and calls for forebearance. If Israel wants to pursue an agenda contrary to stated US policy, that's its prerogative as a nation state; but the US doesn't have to end up funding that policy.
If Israel continues this policy, two suggestions come to mind: 1. Cut off all US military and economic assistance to Israel, and 2. and outlaw any contributions by US citizens to Israel. That should get Bibi's attention.
If the US doesn't compel Israel to pay a price for its actions - ostensibly against US policy - then there is little hope that there will ever be a viable Palestinian state, or an Israel that is not a rogue nation and an international pariah. If the Obama Administration isn't serious about what it finds as Israel's more problematic actions, then now's the time to find out.
Yes - It's high time to induce US divestiture of investment capital in Israel.
Binyamin Netanyahu = SCUMBAG!!!!!
And also in breaking sensational news:
Water is wet.
The sun will come up tomorrow at dawn.
Shit flows downhill.
Zionists "do what they do".
Jews of the world, get rid of the zionist predators or get ready to hide.
can anyone imagine a world without MONEY??????????
If we build "CITIZEN CENTRAL" the israeli lobby as well as all the other lobbyist become moot.
It would be so nice to have aid to Israel cut off and when Israel whined, have Obama say it was not open to discussion.
You'll find a lot more on this and the repeated hellish US conduct in all of this at www.Uruknet.info . I didn't read the articles there on the Israel-Palestine situation over the past weeks, only reading what's excerpted along with the article links in the main index page at Uruknet; but that's enough to be able to see that the Obama administration is doing hellbent crap towards Palestinians, again.
Not being able to read up on all events or topics and having already read enough over the past several years about the Israel-palestine situation, I skip reading most articles posted on this topic, today. And the same applies with many or most articles on the situation in Iraq. I selectively choose what to read. There's no way to read everything and it'd be a real waste of time to try.
We're swamped with crises that we can spend a lot of time reading about, if we try to do so. Swamped. Tell me where there isn't a crisis, and then tell me how many places are in crisis, of one important kind or another? The latter are far more numerous. And a lot of reporters pointlessly provide redundant, very redundant reporting, and often of mediocre to low quality, which is a nuisance, say.
Anyway, the Obama administration evidently wants to maintain a hellbent position with respect to Palestinians. That jack-ass, who pretended he had morally ethical grounds for being able to publicly speak as he did about Rev. Jeremiah Wright? What a condescending ... ass! The damn guy's a damn jerk.
Lovely. "Sweet dreams". Maybe there'll be sunshine tomorrow. ...
