Rumsfeld's Biblical Message-Laden Intelligence Briefs
ABC News' Jennifer Parker reports: Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld prepared top-secret military intelligence briefs for former President George W. Bush with cover sheets featuring triumphant images from the Iraq war with "Crusades-like" Bible messages, according to an exclusive report in the latest June issue of GQ magazine.
A March 31, 2003 brief cover-sheet depicted a U.S. tank roaring through the desert with a biblical quote from Ephesians: "Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand." The briefs,
known as the Worldwide Intelligence Update, were prepared by Rumsfeld
and often hand-delivered to Bush, and only circulated among a handful
of Pentagon leaders and the president, according to GQ's Robert Draper.
A March 31, 2003 brief cover-sheet depicted a U.S. tank roaring through the desert with a biblical quote from Ephesians: "Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand."
An April 7, 2003 cover sheet depicted an image of Saddam Hussein under a quote from the First Epistle of Peter: "It is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men."
An April 10, 2003 brief showed the statue of Saddam Hussein being pulled down, an Iraqi child kissing an American soldier and jubilant Iraqi crowds with a quote from the book of Psalms: "Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him ... To deliver their soul from death."
At least one Muslim analyst in the Pentagon had been offended, GQ reports, and others worried that the biblical passages would inspire Islamic outrage within Muslim nations.
The cover sheets were the "brainchild" of Major General Glen Shaffer, a director for intelligence for Rumsfeld and the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who reportedly told those who complained about the cover pages that "my seniors" appreciated them, including Bush, Rumsfeld, and former Joint Chiefs chairman Richard Myers.
GQ obtained the sheets from an unnamed government official who "was disturbed enough by these biblically seasoned sheets to hold on to copies," Draper reports.

Nothing else rivals the arrogant hubris of the warrior-drones who think they can speak for GOD'S will... then this tragic folly borne of centuries of patriarchal religious conditioning and tangential programming devices, all sculpting minds to accord with these false witness bearers. Is it any wonder the astrologer must chime in to lift the perspective and help awakened souls to discern this notion of "God's" will from a celestial panoply of players. Only ONE does applaud and uphold war, and it is the one the others were designed to rein in, lest exactly the outcomes before us emerge. These are most tragically represented by and through a holocaust against the natural world, enormous sums devoted to the ways and means to make war and murder thousands. Then in far too many cultures women are treated like pack animals while the very banks of times--gene heritages--are coopted and placed under "ownership" by for-profit manmade corporations. This is NOT the recipe for a sane of sustainable world, nor does its present Mars-ruled priorities even faintly simulate the Intention of a Divine Order. Ghastly, these blasphemers of the Holy circle... every one of them a fallen soul seeking to take the rest of humanity along for their ride.
It is really time to tweak our models to better accord with Universal law. Just as democracy means many voices must be heard, heaven's democracy does not grant authorship or total authority to one god, least of which, THAT of destruction, enemy to life and unity among the purposely diversified tribes born to this sphere!
You know something Sioux, i believe your writing is becoming ever more poetically brilliant!!!!
No one has written on the pope's palestine/israel "pilgrimmage" on commondreams. Maybe i will need to do it. It made it so clear how the religious patriarchy is the only voice we hear.
By the way, since my pluto is on my midheaven with scorpio rising, and pluto has become an official non-planet.....I still feel that plutonian energy to be highly important astrologically. How do you feel about that. (My sincere apologies to rest of posters for personal commentary here, off topic here)....
Also, this article does not surprise me in the least.
And i am sure that such biblical passages were used to legitimize torture as well.
READY,
I would love to hear your thoughts on the Pope's visit. By all means, include it somewhere in a post.
Peace.
Thanks for the invitation, Seventhson....I will do so a little later!
I am thinking of a whole article, however, i will post a comment here....

Pluto is a powerhouse planet and represents either transformation enacted to benefit others, or acts that destroy. It's the "Shiva/Vishnu" polarity in symbolic form.
Thank you for the compliment. There are certain moon cycles that facilitate for me an ease in conveying language/ideas that seem to transmit from a place beyond my ordinary reasoning powers. (I call it "cosmic dictation.")
So you have Scorpio rising and Pluto at the Leo Midheaven? Is that correct? Then your power to transform indeed comes from LOVE and a love of children and all things creative. Don't be afraid to use some drama (if it's in Leo. If your Pluto is in early Virgo then the call to transform would take on more tangible means, such as those incorporated by any of the many wondrous holistic healing fields).
I wish the spiritually inclusive message of the heavenly circle could reach more persons and act as something of a springboard to thinking beyond the old definitions, particularly those based on ego-boundaries, nationalism, and the other equally divisive ism divisions. I much appreciate your "vote of confidence."
Sioux, Thank you. I will write to you.
Yes, pluto is in leo...And what you are saying is true. And i am dramatic as well.
A sag. sun i might add!

P.S. Please write to my email and I will send you a hot off the press copy of my new book. I sure hope you find THAT item brilliant! I put many years into this particular effort. (Astrologo77@yahoo.com)
Well, at least your vision of the world seems more peaceful. But you can imagine what you sound like to an atheist like myself...

HOPE: I am not sure who your comment was directed at, but let me ask you this question: can you truthfully say that what you are opposing is the magnificent possibility of a Divine Order, or could it be the inanity of the patriarchal religious programming and its myriad contradictions and blemished history that has caused you to deny the Divine presence? In other words, why limit the Limitless and its wonders to the dangerous fictions that have pitted tribe against tribe for centuries? The Bible doesn't do a particularly good job of relating the qualities that are in many respects ineffable. Its strident measures to hold persons accountable to numerous rules and formations is probably what a lot of atheists are more truly rebelling against. And I hardly blame them for that!
For the 2.5 years I resided in my little place I never was able to grow gardenias, but today 3 bushes are blooming at once and I have several picked to cast their magical fragrance into my office. And I say to you, "Solomon in all of his glory was not arrayed as one of these." So do consider the lilies, lilacs and gardenias of the field; and don't let science limit that magnificence to a paragraph that only focuses on utilitarian cause. So much is music and poetry as life dances all around us.
First let me say, I may be an atheist and you are spiritual or whatever term you would prefer, but I suspect we are both Humanists. In other words, though our beliefs are different, at least they lead us to the same conclusion, which is that what is important is the earthly need for peaceful co-existence.
"can you truthfully say that what you are opposing is the magnificent possibility of a Divine Order"
Yes.
Of course, ANYTHING is possible. Therefore I CAN"T be an atheist, right? I must be an agnostic. Well, I disagree. It is just as POSSIBLE that Donald Trump controls the entire universe as it is that there is a "divine order" (and I assume you don't mean the scientific method of discovering order in nature). However, no one is expected to seriously believe that Trump is God. You are allowed to reject that belief, after all, it's completely ridiculous. But since all these religious, superstitious, mystical or spiritual claims ALL lack evidence to support them - all things being equal - I reject them all. I reject these beliefs not because of the history that surrounds them, not because of the mindset of followers, or the principles of the particular religion (although I easily could) but simply because they are all irrational claims drawn out of thin air. L. Ron Hubbard showed exactly how easy it is to create a mythology and get people to believe it.
I reject the concept of faith. I want proof. I know I'll never get it. In the objective world of wars, wmd's, and torture, it is extremely dangerous to believe anything on faith. My existence here on earth is defined by my knowledge and experience, I'm happy with that. I'm already completely awestruck just to be alive. Life is a beautiful mystery. It doesn't need to be anything more than that.
Science seeks only to explain what it can. It admits that it does not understand the universe. Scientific fact is always a best guess based on observable and predictable results. The jury is always out on science. Every year there are new scientific ideas that replace old ones. I would argue that science is little more than an exploration of the world we live in a manner as objective as human beings are capable of. It demands results that can be examined by a people of any religion. In no way should science limit our sense of wonder. If anything it should remind us of how very little we know.
Religious or mystical systems of belief try to do the exact opposite. They are literally defined by their attempts to define what cannot be.
"why limit the Limitless"
I'm not.
I'm not the one trying to codify or explain the unexplainable. I'm the one doing the exact opposite, so I really don't understand your point.
Divine Shmivine...
The universe is a multicolor rhomboid held aloft by two giant lobsters called Esmeralda and Keith.
She's a fantastic Pen hopedup, no doubt.
It's a shame she's devoted to a dead superstition no less arbitrary than Religion itself. But we have quite a few Native Americans on CD too, and they are as impassioned about their beliefs as she is about hers. What's unfortunate is that all these beliefs at one time or another, were proffered as the pretext for war, when the true cause was human greed or rivalry.
With me it's more Agnostic beliefs mixed with Atheism than anything. I don't dismiss the possibility that we live in another body, but until I learn otherwise it appears to me that possible larger forces at work in the universe are completely uninterested in this little blue ball. Only human arrogance would suppose that our one species out of the millions gone extinct has some telepathic communication to the supernatural.
An old B-747 is a very unpredictable and complex machine. So much so, that every time we made it back around the world we would exclaim: "Once again Science and Technology has triumphed over Fear and Superstition!"

Shades of Marija Gimbutas! Yes!
Lots of reining in needs to be done and fast, on so many levels. People who sounded as crazy as the ex-Bushies and other neocons used to be locked away and tranked.
It is all so egregiously insane, how can it be tolerated?

RED BALLOON: Your lobster comment threw me. If I had technical experience I'd do a blog. Actually I like this site and keep busy writing books with quite a few titles complete and others in progress. My next book will be a comedy entitled, "LAID OFF" and it provides a funny, unconventional solution to the quandary so many face in being laid off. Of course my remedy in fiction will not be for everyone! I hope to soon update my website but I am not equipped to turn it into an active blog.
Siouxrose -
I've noticed you make a huge contribution to this site, and I've enjoyed reading your pov's for a couple of years now. I just think you're too hidden here, that a blog would open up more space for you and widen your influence.
Those two giant lobsters are green, by the way. I forgot to mention that.
I'm opposed to Guy-in-the-Sky theology, but I do believe in a certain kind of "divinity", not a theological kind outside ourselves, but a spiritual attitude of respect, even reverence for our brothers and sisters and the Earth, our mother. I'm moving the locus - away from the mountaintop (nasty volcano god removed from nature) into our heart, where it belongs, which can reconnect us with nature and each other in a more creative, less destructive way.
It's unbearable for me to watch the heaped up toxicity of warmongering for profit "justified" by that sick apocalyptic eschatology. I'm ready to horsewhip Luther for creating the fallacy that every common man (and it's usually a man) is qualified to interpret the bible, a disgusting, repugnant screed in the best of hands in need of very careful reading by experienced scholars.

Great job rummy, from now until the 'end of days' the muslims will listen to any pronouncement from the yank gov't as if it's from a xtian wannabe pope.

GW NORTH: A ways back I put forth in this forum the proposition that the military's "strategy" known as M.A.D (Mutually assured destruction) segues too easily into the popular series (and related belief system) of "Left Behind." One sees the military as rightfully playing god to bring about wholesale destruction of all living beings; the other conveniently FRAMES this as God's will.
It's pretty clear that the CIA or some covert militaristic branch of the US shadow government FUNDED some of the pastors with their TV pulpits and megachurches so they could imply that war was holy, that it served GOD'S plan, and thus cultivate a following of MILLIONS. These millions are the ones who go along with war, who vote Republican (for the most part), who took Bush as a leader, and a 'man of god.' The conditioning goes back about 20-30 years and I'd bet my bottom dollar it was funded to create exactly this type of mindset that is M.A.D cast now under a pseudo (albeit taken for quite real) religious "light." In these times when illegal aggressive war is defined as peace making, the darkness would call itself light. Yes, deception is the name of the great con game that has taken millions of minds on a ride to spiritual hell. And the calamitous blowback has only begun to happen.
Is not the CIA part of the Bush Crime Family?
There is a book, I'm sorry I don't recall the title, written a couple of years ago stating the whole fundamentalist Christian AND Muslim bruh-ha-ha didn't get started by accident.....

"Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld prepared top-secret military intelligence briefs for former President George W. Bush with cover sheets featuring triumphant images from the Iraq war"....
Perfect for little George Bush so that he could enjoy the comicbook version as Uncle Rumsfeld bounced him on his knee.
And when done, little George would clap his hands and smile, "Tell me another one Unkky Rummy!"
You don't have to blow your brains out with a handgun or drink poison to commit suicide. You can Bible yourself to death.
Thump, thump, thump......
Had Rumsfield been alive 2000 years ago, he and the Bushes and every other right-winger would have been calling for the death of Jesus and they would have partied on the day of Jesus's crucifixion.
Yes, but it is also exactly the justification they need for state sponsored torture! If God 'allowed' it for 'his son', then why shouldn't good christians use it for their 'enemies'?
If someone can be tortured and murdered to 'save' the world - Why wouldn't this belief rationalize the same from good 'christians' trying to save us from terrorism?
i'm sure as time goes on we'll hear more horror stories about how those around bush fed his ravenous, infantile, delusions.
i would never defend xians from the more than well-deserved assaults upon their hypocriscy. claiming to "believe in jesus" & having no relation whatsoever w/how their supposed teacher actually lived. i'm sure the bush types need the delusions of religion to exonerate their own consciences of the mass of horrors they have perpetuated.
alas, obama is just as bad. not so gauche & tasteless w/all the religious crap all the time. yet he flaps his gums to spineless moldless blob of jello rick warren about "jesus dying for my sins." obama, probably doing it for the rubes, whereas bush apparently is the real deal. (who knows? you don't see w. out cutting brush on the ranch anymore. he gave that pose up right quick after leaving office.)
please jesus! rapture your idiot followers now!
please jesus! rapture your idiot followers now!
The idiots aren't his followers. Thing is, Jesus raptured his followers a few years ago. Unfortunately there were so few of them that the world didn't notice their disappearance, and the rest of us are now left behind. (Grin)
lmao, that easily could have happened.
Rummy looks like nothing so much as Hester Prinn on that scaffold. Except that he belongs there.
I hope you die Donald, not quietly at home in your bed two years from now but soon, and after you have REALLY seen clearly what you have done, AND after having been given the grace of a conscience to appreciate it's horror.
RE: "Rumsfeld's Biblical Message-Laden Intelligence Briefs"
BUSH TOLD CHIRAC: “Gog and Magog are at work in the Middle East”
FROM THE ARTICLE “When God Spoke to Me”: …..During those private interviews, Jacque Chirac had purportedly confessed to the journalist some personal remarks regarding the faith of George W. Bush that seemed quite daunting. He told the journalist that the latter called him twice beseeching him basically, in the name of their common “spiritual faith”, i.e., “Christianity”, to join the collective effort of the coalition being formed to wage a preemptive war against Iraq. In his first telephonic call he reportedly said to Jacque Chirac: “Gog and Magog are at work in the Middle East” and then added that “the biblical prophecies are being fulfilled”…..

omg, dickerson. gog & magog? jesus h. christ on rubber crutches.
the funny (but perverse) thing is that rummy & co. were doing to bush, apparently that is, what the fundy/tv evangy types try to do to the whole country: sell apocalyptic delusions as a pretext for militarism.
the not funny thing is that obama will continue the exact same policies, w/o the need for any religious hoakum to sell him on it.
I believe in public humiliation. I see all these who are hiding from their guilt stripped naked and penniless brought to the public square where their crimes are testified by the victims who remain and those who carry the voices of those who aren't in a truth and reconsiliation. Where we the people of the world will sit in judgement and ask if we have had enough and are ready for peace.

With all due respect for the many people whose contributions I read here - and appreciate greatly.
Nonetheless:
Religion + Government = Tyranny.
Religion = Superstition.
Most rational individuals no longer rely on astrology to manage their affairs, or believe the world is flat. Why can we not see that religion - all religion - is simply superstition by another name?
Religion is the last remnant of the primitive, frightened, irrational beings from which we have evolved. Religion (Superstition) is the manifestation of the human brains' cognitive mechanisms'. We 'make stuff up' to fill-in the gaps in our understanding of the world we see.
Nothing in the annals of history has resulted in more death, hatred, repression, and misery. Religion fosters repression, racism, sexism, isolationism, and fear.
..and a favorite quote on the sbject:
"With or without religion, good people can behave well and bad people can do evil; but for good people to do evil -- that takes religion." - Steven Weinberg
I just hope mankind itself can survive our primal addiction to belief in the irrational - ie; religion.

POWELL: You discredit the portions of sentience that YOU think no longer matter. They have never been disproved, nor can science or the rational intellect answer for everything. How far has the modern world gotten when patriarchal prejudice informs both science and religion. I speak of an inclusive sensibility that recognizes relationship where persons have been taught not to notice them. The lack of realization hardly is the same thing as successfully disproving what one has lost the sensitivity to understand. I bring a strong intellect AND great hunger for knowledge into my studies. Astrology is not something I arrived at by superstition. Study something before making glib comments. I can't argue with a nuclear physicist on HIS turf, and you can't argue on mine until you have studied it for 30 plus years. I am so tired of people being discriminating towards subjects that they take the authoritarians' censorship views on, not having truly pursued the venue themselves.
"They have never been disproved, nor can science or the rational intellect answer for everything."
So true my friend Sioux Rose..
Virgil (representing human reason) could only act as Dante's Guide through the horrors of hell to the Gates of the earthly Paradise. At this point Virgil vanishes as he must. Only Beatrice, (Divine wisdom)dressed in white, green, and red, (Faith, Hope, and Caritas) can guide Dante through the mysteries that contain all that is true.....
Astrology is the parent of the scientific method, developed from the empiric observations of calendrical copyists and almanac makers in temples throughout the ancient world. In the process of preserving almanac information, the clergy, scribes, and historians were able to view and study long periods of time.
Along with the planetary motions among the backdrop of visible stars, the calendars listed anything significant in the agricultural life of the community, including weather and its attendant issues of flooding, droughts, storms, etc. as well as events important to the community and its leadership.
Persistent statistical relevance was discovered between the planetary motions, historical events, and weather --time and time again. The refinement of these observations and correlations continues to this day.
Astrologers were burned as heretics by the same churches that you criticise. Sir Issac Newton was an astrologer as well as the greatest physical scientist and mathematics genius of his day or any other. Don't knock it until you study it and you most certainly have not.

Michael,
Very, very good response. Also very informative to those of us who have very little knowledge of astrology and its critical role in the history mankind.
A most excellent post siderealm/Mr Jordan,
I do not discount the historical significance of astrology, for instance; Arab astrologers produced the first astrolabe hundreds of years before anyone else and were masters of the night sky as well as masters of the oceans far before the Europeans. But this was a practical navigation application of direct celestial observation, which matured into a useful science: transoceanic navigation. Horoscopes, on the other hand are, from what I can tell, a useless relic, a pre-Copernicus and pre-Galileo pseudo science, sort of like today's phony priests and Chiropractors. Just like politicians (another form of palm reader) , they use gimmicks to convince you they have incredible insight into areas too grey for the average citizen to fathom.
A mystic (or Rose) by any other name....

"All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent." - Thomas Jefferson
Part One response to TJ:
The Music of the Spheres
Gee thanks for the comforting head pat Tom. A silver hammer in a velvet glove is an entertaining style.
I've been practicing astrology since 1969, and worked at the American Astrologers behind the Library of Congress in 1971 and 1972 before they moved to Tempe and written way in excess of a million words on astrology on the internet since 1990 and had this argument posed by thousands, always unsolicited and wanting to soothe my pointed little head (they perceived filled with delusions) with their rational logic. Because that rational logic is often based upon flawed causality and zero scholarship when discussing astrology, I always win, because I am standing on the shoulders of giants and the other argument is always a variation on Papal themes promulgated by the Italian Catholic propagandist, Pico de Mirandela who spent his days fighting the scientific logic of the Renaissance scientists. The same church taught misleading arguments have been plagiarized for 5 centuries. The catholic Church killed astrology all by itself in the west. It is only in the west that astrology is maligned and astrologers are ostracized and placed upon the rack of public ridicule. China accepts astrology. India accepts astrology. Arabia accepts astrology. Much of Europe accepts astrology as does south America. There is not a single emerging or ancient culture anywhere on earth which did not develop an astrological system. The systems of the Aztecs and the Mayas were similar. The systems of Bejing and Hanoi and Saigon are similar
Astrology, however, has nothing to do with God. It is an acknowledgment of the extension of awareness of the environment in which we live. The renowned naturalist John Muir said that you cannot separate anything from the environment because everything is connected to everything else. Chaos Theory states that indeed a butterfly can flap its wings in Montana and set forth chains of reactions which can produce a storm on the other side of the world. There are no isolated elements in the universe. Neurological research at the University of California at Berkeley has shown that vibratory effects on the synaptic pathways in the brain cause changes in behaviour. Musicians playing together start to duplicate the patterns of their group members by tuning their mental processes to the others by means of brain frequencies mirroring the music they are playing.
Planets also have vibratory frequencies (music), their individual motions represent very low sounds. If you take the orbital period of a planet and step it up 34 octaves you get its frequency in the normal audible spectrum of music.
Venus for example has an orbital period around the Sun of 224.6954328 days. There are 1440 minutes in each day and 60 seconds in each of the minutes. So by the following calculation: (224.6954328 X 1440 X 60) equaling the number of seconds in the orbital period; then taking the reciprocal by dividing that resulting number of seconds into 1 you get the vibrational frequency in one second of the planet. Then by using the standard formula for an raising an octave which is 2 to the power represented by the octave you want to raise it to, in this case 34; you come up with the actual tone (frequency) of Venus which is 442.47 Hz (or cycles per second). If you play piano you now that this is very close to A 440 which is the A above middle C on the piano. Many of my fellow bluegrass players actually tune higher to 442 because the sharper tone is perceived by their brain as crisper and feels better to their ear. Venus is the planet of the Art and entertainment and in world music the A is the most important note of reference.
Now the interesting part/point. The brain uses relatively low sound frequency to locate files in its vast storage because there are no wires or circuits in the brain. The cortex is very sophisticated and uses sound to access certain areas of synapse collections which hold particular classes of information. When information is stored in the brain it is done through musical sounds and their derived harmonics which particularize the information for the cortex, stamp it with a sonic identity, and allow it to reside near the neural pathways which lead to the more articulated responses of the body. Then when cortical activity requires information it sends out a signal with harmonic overtones to access the information. This is why we may often make mistakes with information which is very near in quality to what we are seeking. Words nearly the same in sound or meaning can be accessed in error. In a sense it is like information is stored in adjacent and slightly different harmonics. Environmental interference does this can disturb the harmonics and cause a false result.
Interference (at minimum) includes 60 hz. that generated by our AC electric power which surrounds us in the US. In addition, loud noise, stroboscopic light, barking dogs, screaming interrogators, etc.. They over-ride the brain through interference. People who live in the country on farms have experimented with turning off their power at night to see what happens when they eliminate these frequencies. The results are clarity and increased mental acuity. People in most of the world have 50 cycles per second so they perceive things differently due to their own unique interference.
part two follows this
Part Two:
The first neural pathway frequency discovered at Berkeley was 35 hz. and published last year in the journal National Association for the Advancement of Science, Science. To raise this pitch to the piano you keep doubling it (power of 2 again) until you get to notes you can play on the piano. Ergo 35::70::140::280::560 . 560 hz is in the middle octave of the piano.
What planet frequencies equate to these results?
560 hz is a nearly perfect middle Db at 554.37hz.
Mercury falls at 565.09 hz and the
Earth comes in at 544.41 hz.
Now from the Earth the Sun is orbitally inseparable. In other words if the Earth is considered the static center of the universe the Sun moves around it in 365.2421987 days. If the Sun is considered the static center of the solar system then the Earth revolves around it in 365.2421987 days. It really doesn't matter if you are looking at a Ptolemaic (Geocentric) or a Copernican conception (Heliocentric). Modern astrologers study both systems realizing the advantages of each system and the fact that the philosophical and religious prejudices influence the backgrounds and limitations of their listening audience and therefore determines the way they present the material to non-astrologers and those who have been purposely confused by self-serving astronomers who often assume incorrectly that we make buckets of money practicing astrology. Not.
To finish up:
So looking back into historical times and learning what the ancient astrologers found their analysis of the empirical observations of the relationship of Sun and Mercury:
"
Sun/Mercury
...
+ practical thinking, a clear mind, consciousness of objective, understanding and knowledge of the world, the ability to organize, circumspection and prudence, a busy occupation.
- lack of clarity, absent mindedness, aimlessness
...

And a much better response than I had expected by many magnitudes. The frequency of electrical current in the modern world as it impacts nearby "neural nets" is most fascinating. I was not aware of the mechanism of memory being frequency driven on a random search initiated by the individual. Is it analogous to ringing a specific frequency for a specific cell phone? Simply amazing. Thank you for posting it. My apologies if my post became personal to you, as that was not the intent, I assure you. I had no idea that you were a scholar on the subject. Your first post should have clued me in on that I guess. My intent was to spark debate and I see that my "silver hammer" as you characterized it, was not too subtle indeed. :) I was trying to highlight the distinction between legitimate science and superstition as I see it. Superstition has done grave damage to the USA (e.g, skull and bones; christian fundamentalism: global cooling ruses).
You have nicely developed a "conscillience" between modern neuroscience and ancient astrology. I cannot reject it out of hand, but neither can I separate it from "slight of hand" demonstrations that seek to appear logical but rely instead on deceit. (I am not saying that this is what you are doing; but it appears to me that other roadside practitioners do this.)
I do not object to the practice of Astrology. It probably should qualify as a protected form of worship, just as I feel Atheism should. But since I also believe in Free Speech above all, I feel that no belief is taboo from examination or debate.
Lastly, I shall have to decline to participate in your demonstration. Thus, I concede that you win the debate.
Enjoyed the conversation (and I frequently enjoy and agree with your posts here on CD.) Feel free to straighten me out any time Michael. And you were a good sport to patiently indulge a layman such as I.
Cheers,
TJ

Thank you Tom. "No blood, no foul" as they say at FOB Tiger.
I have to thank you for the post you made because in responding to you I have done some writing which I could not have done on my own. I have very little will power and need some resonance before I begin to write and your question was a kick which spurred me to do some major writing which I have been avoiding. Ain't CommonDreams grand?!! ;) The whole process of communication is joined in with this stuff. I have looked for a grassroots expression of these concepts in music and approach playing guitar with this in mind.
I agree with you and think that this works very much like cell phones. Although I never really gave it much thought until you mentioned it. Thank you, again!
And very much similar to what is known as a "phase locked loop" which is used in selecting a unique frequency within a bandwidth on a police scanner. I think that since sound and radio waves are involved in the study of brains it was natural for the neural scientists to stumble on this and begin to exploit it for their research and then get the pleasant surprise of the Eureka moment. I have some of the original research from Berkeley and other places. This whole line of inquiry is beginning to gain purchase and I will post what I have in the file section of the website below my name.
I think that in the very long time of real stellar evolution that these things evolve naturally in the manner of the Grand Canyon and its final resolution in the alluvial wash of the Colorado River into the Gulf of Mexico. The variations of interference produce everything we experience.
Oh, and I forgot to tell you that the "traditional astrologers" of the newspaper astrology, and the "what's your sign" crowd have shunned me just as much as the scientists. I would have been heckled, deleted, and banned on their sites as soon as I strayed from the "Mercury in Pisces in the Ninth house" orthodoxy.
I actually predicted the 911 plane bombing in an initial demo piece for The Berkeley Monthly which I submitted in August of 2001 for publication in September because my methods were outside of what they thought their readers wanted in an astrology column. And they thought that my writing that things were going to never be the same again was a little over the top. I missed 9-11 by 4-5 days predicting the 15- 16th rather than the 11th.
Still crazy after all these years.
