US Senate Supports Israel's Gaza Incursion
WASHINGTON - The U.S. Senate voiced strong support on
Thursday for Israel's battle against Hamas militants in Gaza, while
urging a ceasefire that would prevent Hamas from launching any more
rockets into Israel.
The chamber agreed on a voice vote to the
non-binding resolution co-sponsored by Democratic and Republican party
leaders in the chamber.
"When we pass this resolution, the
United States Senate will strengthen our historic bond with the state
of Israel, by reaffirming Israel's inalienable right to defend against
attacks from Gaza, as well as our support for the Israeli-Palestinian
peace process," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat,
said before the vote.
Noting that Israel was bent on halting
Hamas rocket fire into its southern towns, Reid said: "I ask any of my
colleagues to imagine that happening here in the United States. Rockets
and mortars coming from Toronto in Canada, into Buffalo New York. How
would we as a country react?"
Co-sponsor and Senate Minority
Leader Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Republican said before the vote:
"The Israelis ... are responding exactly the same way we would."
The House was expected to pass a similar resolution.
The Senate resolution encourages President George W. Bush "to work
actively to support a durable, enforceable and sustainable ceasefire in
Gaza as soon as possible that prevents Hamas from retaining or
rebuilding the capability to launch rockets or mortars against Israel,"
Reid said.
It also expresses an "unwavering" commitment to
Israel's welfare and recognizes its right to act in self defense to
protect citizens against acts of terrorism, he said. "It allows for the
long-term improvement of daily living conditions of the ordinary people
of Gaza," he said.
Palestinians faced even grimmer conditions
in Gaza on Thursday after a U.N. aid agency halted work, saying its
staff was at risk from Israeli forces after two drivers were killed.
The reported Palestinian death toll in the 13-day-old conflict topped
700. At least 11 Israelis have been killed, eight of them soldiers,
including four hit by "friendly fire."

Show AllWow, are they ever tying Obama's hands before he even gets into the oval office. This slavish devotion to an occupier and an ethnic cleanser is gonna cost them in the end.
Zoya: Check back on Obama's position on Israel when he was running. He was several degrees to the right of AIPAC and everything he's said since has conformed to that including his recent stupid and unstatesmanlike comment on what he'd do as a daddy when somebody was tossing rocks into his yard and endangering his little girls. Is this guy a grown-up?
He happily tied his own hands and tied the United States to more years of enabling a genocidal state in whatever it chooses to do.

Obama consistently supports Israel and supports her right to defend herself.
If you don't support Israel then vote for guys like Nader or Pat Buchanan, or maybe just write-in Ahmadinejad.
Israel needs to gtfo of the occupied territories, return to 1967 borders, disassemble ALL settlements, tear down the walls, give up the roads, give up the water that by rights belongs to ALL the people of the region, END the blockade of Gaza, STOP undermining struggling representative governments of the Palestinian people, STOP using cluster bombs that kill and mutilate 98% children and other civilians, STOP using White Phosphorous as a "smoke screen," which is the moral equivalent of using the defoliant Napalm in cities and deserts, reprehensible torture targeting innocents... STOP undermining representative government and the "free" media in the United States, and STOP asserting "self defense" for UN Sanctioned and internationally illegal military aggression.
Then you and I can talk about the home made rockets that killed a few unfortunate people. I agree with you... it's awful, eh?
Gawud what a fucking, insipid and obvious troll you are... you should be embarrassed to be seen in public.
I'm a moderate Democrat, that believes AIPAC should be investigated for espionage. Thank goodness Israel has a freer press than the U.S., and that AIPAC only represents a minority opinion in that country.
It gives me "hope."
Have a nice day.
Well said, Blue.

Were you expecting him to do something different?
Seams to be something wrong with "right-to-life" supporters supporting and condoning killing of children. Be fun if Kay Bailey runs for Governor.
you know, this is Obama's happy luv fest of unity come true.
On this one issue, congress is one big happy family while out in the American hinterland, resent and outrage start to build.
Who will take the brunt of the anger to yet come?

They have it backwards. Killing Gazans will only strengthen the attacks. If Israel called for a ceasefire, made the first gesture of good faith and stopped the retaliation, and then worked to open Gaza's borders for trade and humanitarian relief (starting treating the Gazans like human beings), we could see the end of this conflict in a matter of days. Hamas has always been a RESISTANCE movement. If you take away their raison d'etre (holding off Israel's plans for genocide), they'll fall apart.
Interestingly, it was a Jew, Albert Einstein, who said "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results."
Humanity is too proud to reason such matters away when glory and national honor are at stake!
Look at the types who go into politics in the first place: super competitive alpha males. We are doomed before we begin...
Sociopaths rise to the top in all societies look at the definition of sociopath online and then think of your average politician or world leader, it's quite revealing.
I'm glad I'm not the only one to see this.
Just more reason to see that the only line of defense against sociopathic fascism is the people.

Israel: Boycott, Divest, Sanction
"It's time. Long past time. The best strategy to end the increasingly bloody occupation is for Israel to become the target of the kind of global movement that put an end to apartheid in South Africa."

Thank you.

Welcome to the United States of ISRAEL!
What did you expect from the cobelligerent's Senate? #1 State terrorist supports the actions of #2. They financed the whole affair, just as they've done for decades, and provide added proof that Atta's counterattack on 9/11 was totally legitimate.
I would like to expand on the comment about unity. U.S. policy towards Israel is perhaps the best example of why unity in government is not necessarily a good thing, and that the biggest problem facing us all is not partisanship. It certainly would have been nice to have a little partisanship in the run-up to the Iraq war. The banker bailout was yet another time our politicians came together in a bipartisan way to screw us over. I am sure that there will be bipartisan effort to pass the new war funding being talked about by Gates, too.
Change?
And they also supported the Tonkin Resolution and the right to invade Iraq. Ignorance is bliss.
The best congress that money can buy will always side with the military industrial media complex whose revenues are tied to global military action.
If congress allows military industrial media complex economic activity to be reduced, they realize that the global economic meltdown will worsen and they might catch the blame.
Some change: meet the new boss same as the old boss.
Ha ha ha.

I love the logic we see here. First nothing could be done because it was Bush's fault. Now some people are starting to argue that Congress is tying Obama's hands. Culty political thinking always has an out.
Jeez, it seems like on this site there's more support for Bush then on The World Net Daily. Sad.
They don't support Bush. They're just so pissed off at the Democrats for rolling over to Bush that it makes them and me even angrier. I'd give those motherfuckers in the Senate a taste of my shotgun if I could but I'll just keep trying to vote for someone new where I can and keep my nose shut tight.
Thanks Dennis. Good post. Sometimes I need someone to talk me down.
W0rd!

Dick Cheney is still president of the Senate. Maybe there's hope yet...

This is news?
Harry Reid is a huge disappointment. He has to go.
Comparing Israel and Gaza to the US and Canada is idiotic. Gaza is not a sovereign nation.
A better analogy would be South Dakota and the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
A Voice vote allows the cowards to promote selling more bombs and not be on record. Call your Sen. and ask how they voted. Can the pres- elect protest at the whitehouse Sat against the bombings of Gaza? Change, Hope,.....dream on..........
My god is good.
Bin Laden’s god is bad. His is a bad god.
Saddam’s god was bad, except he didn’t have one. He was a barbarian.
We are not barbarians. We don’t chop people’s heads off.
We believe in freedom. So does God.
I am not a barbarian. I am the democratically elected leader of a freedom-loving democracy.
We are a compassionate society. We give compassionate electrocution and compassionate lethal injection.
We are a great nation.
I am not a dictator. He is.
I am not a barbarian. He is.
They all are.

You see this fist? This is my moral authority. And don’t you forget it.”
- Harold Pinter (1930 to 2008), describing US foreign policy in his "Art, Truth and Politics" (Nobel accptance) speech
So, the events in the near future go something like this:
We have a ceasefire.
Israel continue to blockade Gaza.
Israel then "reserve their right" to assassinate Hamas members and their families.
Hamas then break their ceasefire and launch rockets into Israel.
Israel then attack Gaza with F16s, then a land invasion and hundreds more Palestinians get killed, but hey, don't worry, because they were obviously shielding Hamas militants.
How can this be happening in the 21st Century?
The only thing which can stop this carnage, is if the US pulls the plug on Israel and condemns its actions.
I give up.
It comes as no surprise that the reactionary US government supports another reactionary nation that shares its principles of terror and imperialism--particulary when the US business interests can make so much money selling Isreal all those WMD.
When are the Amerikan people going to get rid of one-party rule in the US?
God, how could our country be so rediculously stupid? Every day I become more disgusted by my country's willingness to tolerate this insanity.
If they can do this to the Palestinians, get ready for even bigger selling out of this country which will make 2008 look like a warmup !
I wonder how the survivors of the Israeli attack on the USS Liberty would feel about this?
Walk in peace.
Reid said: "I ask any of my colleagues to imagine that happening here in the United States. Rockets and mortars coming from Toronto in Canada, into Buffalo New York. How would we as a country react?"
How do we even begin to answer this idiotic question???
Well, if we had imposed on say, greater Toronto a blockade that reduced them to sub Saharan lavels of porverty, and this is following 60 years of violent disposession of their land throughout the country. I would be quite pleased if their only response were some little rockets with 2 lb warheads lobbed a mile over the border.
PLEASE tell me, when these politicians tell these lies, do they know they are lying or do the even delude even themselves in pursuit of their filthy murderous arrogance?

Toronto!
As Parminder Singh and Harnarayan Singh would say - the Maple Leafs barf the rubber tiki (puck).
According to the present Mayor of Toronto, Americans should let less weapons (ie handguns) into our country. Israel doesn't let in food and medical supplies because it thinks that they may be made into weapons.
You heard that the Red Cross won't be bringing any more supplies into Gaza because too many of their members and their facilities have been shot (and shot at) by the Israeli Military.
UN halts aid to Gaza, citing Israeli attacks on staff
http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2009/01/08/israel-gaza.html
*tiki is a puck shaped East Indian desert. *barf is the word for icing *ps and hs call the play by play for NHL games on Saturdays - if Grapes makes you gag
Vaudree - The UN has also suspended humanitarian aid convoys entering Gaza after an Israeli tank fired on a convoy, killing a driver. Incidentally, in doing this, Israel violated it's own three hour ceasefire...
Doing to is a blatant war crime.
I have also read reports that an Iranian cargo ship bearing inspected humanitarian aid is trying to approach Gaza to drop off food and mediacl supplies. If Israel is foolish enough to interfere with or fire uppon this ship, it will be an act of war against Iran.
Yeah, let's open THAT can of worms...
Walk in peace.
If Iran gets involved ...
I guess it is Israel's choice whether they do or not. Hopefully the food and medical supplies gets through.
I wonder why Israel doesn't want to let in reporters - or doctors.
Fuck Israel, noting but a yankie bitch and forget any American leadership saying one word about it .Its what they WANT,check the track record for the past 35 years.
Thats what I was going to say but you beat me to it. Darn.
we have a winner: warrior sole. that is it in a nut shell, folks. change, hope, my ass!
I think it would be a good time to remind all you good little Yankees that Henry Ford openly praised and supported the Nazis.
It is time to remind you that George W. Bush's Grandfather, Prescott Bush, who was a sitting senator at the time was Hitlers banker and sat on the board of I.G. Farben, the company that supplied the Zyclon B that was used in the Nazi gas chambers.
It is time to remind you that the Akron Air Instrument company of Akron, Ohio was supplying flight instrumentation for the first operational jet fighters, built by Nazi Germany.
It is time to remind you that the US tried to cover up the Israeli attack on the USS Liberty, and the subsequent deaths and injuries of US Navy servicemen.
It is time to remind you that the CIA, headed by George H.W. Bush at the time, installed Saddam Hussein in Iraq.
It is time to remind you that the CIA installed the bloody Shah Rezah Pahlevi in Iran.
It is time to renind you that the US supported Panama's Gen. Manuel Noriega. At least until Panama made noises it wanted the terms of the Panama Treaty honored, transferring full control of the Panama Canal to Panamanian hands.
It is time to remind you that the US and George W. Bush also supported the 2008 Georgian illegal invasion of South Ossetia, which resulted in Georgia being subjected to Russian military force, and having teh Georgian military break and run.
Support of bloodstained, murderous criminals is nothing new for the US.
Walk in peace.

As a result of reading your post I have ordered a copy of Antony Sutton's book about Wall Street - Hitler connections. I have read extensively in the past on the USS Liberty and other Zionist atrocities. Our public is clueless, xenophobic, provincial, and or
stupid in most news issues. If it doesn't involve Paris Hilton or Brad Pitt or Baby Fae it's not of interest.
Change. Hope. Dream on.........................
