Green Jobs Now!
Demonstrations Planned Today Will Highlight Green Collar Economic Opportunity
Tens of thousands of Americans are expected to turn out today in cities all over the U.S. to express their desire to see leaders enact policies to deliver "green collar" jobs that will help the country ween itself off fossil fuels and combat global warming.
More than six hundred communities will call for "Green Jobs Now," such as this national business coalition in San Francisco, California The Green Jobs Now rallies have been organized in more than 600 locations.
Organizers frame the event as a solution to not only energy and environmental crises facing the nation, but to its economic crisis as well.
Particularly, the campaign is designed to show how investments in renewable energy technology manufacturing and energy efficiency installation can revitalize rural and urban poor and minority communities.
"As we head into the final weeks of this national election and are in the midst of a national economic crisis, Americans are clear that they want bold action that builds a clean energy economy, unlocks the potential of sustainable industry, and ushers in a new era of prosperity and green jobs," said Gillian Caldwell, 1Sky Campaign director.
Other organizers include Green For All and the Alliance for Climate Protection.

Local sustainability and Greens Jobs is the opposite of everything that the Vampire States really stands for. If communities are locally sustainable, that is they do not need huge energy inputs from fossil fuel or nuclear burning, and they can grow their basic foods, there is little political hold , not enough necessity, to produce dependence on Central Government and its greedy tentacles of power, for jobs and wealth. Trade and travel between communities and larger cities to every scale becomes a luxury.
The problem of system dependence on international trade in energy, goods, money is that when the system crashes, so does your local livelihood. Using a globalist system of expanded production, capitalist ownership, cheapest labor options, to supplant local livelihood means that for a time, there is growth and prosperity for many exploiters, leading to over-development,specialization and interdependence. Each region is now exploited beyond sustainability of what local livelihood will support. When a specialty fails that is no longer available in capacity elsewhere, for what ever reason, the entire system must die, as in critical organ failure in the animal.
Although there is inefficiency in the economic capitalist sense of having local independence, the ability to survive system collapses, the reduced local over-exploitation from hyper-capacity support from elsewhere leads to better sustainability everywhere. This seems all so much common sense. It does however, lead to reduced national investment, and extremely toxic concentrations of wealth, power, corruption, militarism. So thats why the Vampire States is against local sustainability and Green Jobs. If applied everywhere, the power entity of the Vampire States would become a pale shadow. As if the VS was not already severely anemic from system collapse. Globalism is necessary in some form, but it could be used best to promote local livelihood, sustainability and independence.
Well said.
Since i belive that this is a divide and conquer method of creating international trade law and order. Motive, greed by the merchant class ( physiocrats ). Prize, Land.
For us at the bottom of this food chain we need to de-centralize ( support local economy, culture, language, foods, goods ) in a hurry. This will mean lot more to conqure and they may succeed in some place but not all places. Do not tolerate, international trade treaties. Stance at one end will help working people at other side of our in-tolerance. At the end of this road is a black hole ( god knows how much land they will want for this failure ).
"vampire State" will do anything to sell us their goods made by slaves and through manipulation of organic matters. They have gone hyper, with statments like, " we need monies now" - simply a language of extortion.
Someone please calm them down or send the whole lot to the moon. I will gladly pay for that.
I am..toophat for you!
Awesome it made the news! The Student Environmental Association group I'm in was putting this on here at USF. Except we had solid green work helmets, not white.
Let's bring Green Jobs to the Carolinas PLEASE ! Our two states have shedded more than enough jobs for a couple of decades already thanks to "free" trade scams and later the war tempting younger men and women to give up seeking good paying jobs. If we can make Corporate America truly environmentally friendly and heal the economic and environmental divide, let's give Green Jobs a chance.
Has anybody checked out "HYDROGEN FROM WATER" on YouTube? Thousands of people are appearantly, already taking matters in their own hands by creating their own "alternative energy" sources in their back yards. I guess if f enough people tried this, the demand for oil would certainly drop, as well as prices.
As a child who grew up in a small town in Canada that relied upon the copper/gold mine and forestry industry, I know first hand the effects of what this short lived industry eventually does to a community's livelihood! My parents have spent most of their adulthood in this town and are now struggling to get out, because they see no other option. Their 1500 sq. foot home that is completely remodeled is worth roughly $40,000! Most of the homes in their community are either empty or aging without proper care. My parents, to say the least, are feeling depressed and defeated. The world has changed, but not all small town communities' citizens minds' have. People still continue to rely on old methods of community sustainability, including my folks who come from the old school of relying on their local government and foreign industry, to find solutions, in the end finding out very quickly that this simply won't work anymore!
Is there any one here that could define these "Green Jobs" for me? I keep hearing this but never see any mention of what these Green Jobs are. Thia.
Well, look at the photograph. Alternative energy, small farms, service sector work that serves the public (health, social services, etc.), recycling, renewables (composting), the list goes on and will continue to grow.
I'm wondering what I can do in terms of starting my own Green business. I'm thinking in terms of the human services sector and wonder how to tie it in with alternative energy and renewables.
Ideas?
"service sector work that serves the public (health, social services, etc."
That would be considered a "green job"?
Green Jobs: http://www.planetfriendly.net/gw.php This is a Canadian web site but it may give you an idea!
