Sing A New Song Unto the Lord: Arts Students Troll Westboro Heathens

Proclaiming "God Loves Jazz," up to 100 harmonious students of New York City's Juilliard School turned out this week to joyfully confront an increasingly rabid handful of Westboro Church (sic) creeps protesting their artistry - aka their "vanity" and "proud sin." Westboro had announced the protest against "the heart and soul of the arts community” on their seriously wacky website, charging that the school's prestigious dance, drama, and music programs have led inexorably to idolatry, fornication, adultery, divorce, same-sex marriage, murder, lying, stealing and - gasp - art, all of which has "filled the nation with proud sodomites.” In response, the jubilant and no doubt promiscuous students held signs - "Hell must be FABULOUS" in rainbow letter - sang, marched and played string versions of “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “Amazing Grace.” Their goal: To show, "We have nothing but love."

"If a work of art is rich and vital and complete...it will fill the cowardly with terror, and the unclean will see in it their own shame." - Oscar Wilde
