Mothers of Trans Kids To Clueless Lawmakers: Meet My Child
In time for Mother's Day, and in response to a wave of panicked, bigoted laws bizarrely focused on the evidently pivotal issue of who uses what bathrooms, the nation's first transgender lobby, Trans United Fund, has launched a campaign to educate those obsessively working to pass those laws. With the LGBT and transgender community already "no stranger to adversity," notes a spokesperson, it is now facing "a coordinated, national and vicious attack from the far right" - an attack often accompanied by ugly rhetoric, soaring rates of violence and suicide, and twisted myths bearing no relation to the reality of the people most affected. In their video, moms of trans kids ask politicians to take a break from crafting their mindlessly destructive laws and just "Meet My Child." They talk about struggling along with their children's struggles. They make breakfast, play ball, speak their fears, and pledge the same fierce unbending mother love as every other mother, ever. Says one of her newly declared daughter, "She is my heart."
