Not Just A Polar Bear Issue: Evangelicals Confront Florida's Top Dumb Climate Deniers
With Florida's low-lying, densely populated coast rendering it a sort of climate change Ground Zero, even ordinarily conservative Christian evangelicals are urging the state's GOP political leaders - deniers Gov. Rick Scott and Sen. Marco Rubio, who once snidely dismissed the notion "we can windmill our way into the 21st century" - to wake up, smell the oncoming floods, seriously plan for climate change and honor "our duty to God’s creation and future generations." Arguing the environment is "not a liberal issue or any issue other than a people issue" and a pro-life issue because "everything we do, as human beings, to mess up God’s creation impacts human life,” they are holding panels, circulating petitions and otherwise urging Scott and other leaders to make the Biblical tenet of “creation care” a priority and "confront the impacts of a changing climate.” Sea change: When even Christian evangelicals are saying your policies are too blindly stupidly reactionary for Jesus. With last year's brilliant video suggesting hurricanes forthwith be named for infamous deniers whose political intransigence likely made their impact even worse.
