Shuffle Off This Mortal Coil: Court Martial Sees Footage of UK Marines Executing Injured Taliban
Sunday, February 7, 2016
In the first case of UK soldiers charged with murder in Afghanistan, a court martial saw footage from a helmet camera of the alleged "battlefield execution" of an injured prisoner in Helmand by a patrol of Royal Marines who debated where to shoot him - head or chest - cussed him out, pretended to administer first aid to cover their actions, and warned they'd broken the Geneva Convention so "obviously this don’t go anywhere fellas." The military tribunal of the marines, known for their tight discipline and code of silence, is big news in the UK, but one has to ask: What do people think these guys were doing there, and how many more such killings went unrecorded?
