Rape Victim, 14, As Much In Control As Her Rapist Teacher, 48, Says Judge Who Kindly Gave Him 30-Day Sentence
Judge, victim, creep
A Montana judge has apologized for his remarks but not amended his sentence of just 30 days in jail - or 15 years with almost all of it suspended - for a former high school teacher convicted of raping a 14-year-old student who later committed suicide. Yellowstone County Judge Todd Baugh inexplicably cut Stacey Dean Rambold, now 54, a whole lot of slack because minor, student and troubled kid Cherice Morales was "as much in control of the situation" as was the so-called adult and authority figure who had at least three sexual encounters with her and who already had a history of sexual offenses. Baugh also argued that Morales was "older than her chronological age" - maybe even, like, 15? - thus implying that if she was old enough to, say, wear mascara, then she musta been asking for it. Jesus. After protests, her family's outrage and the creation of a petition to unseat the good judge, state prosecutors say they will review the ruling. In what remains a grossly imperfect world and justice system, that won't bring Morales back but may prevent more casualties.
