Tide Turns on Marriage Equality: We Are Out, Like You Now

With the Supreme Court set to consider DOMA and California's Prop. 8 next week, marriage equality much in the news. A new poll finds the largest majority ever of Americans support same-sex marriage. So does Hillary Clinton, and even GOP Sen. Rob Portman - a selfish but still welcome move sparked by his son coming out, as though it doesn't count unless it's about someone connected to you. Minnesota legislator Lynne Osterman urged her colleagues to legalize same-sex marriage by tearfully blasting her own, earlier, "politically expedient" vote for Minnesota's "Defense of Marriage" law. And the coolest, quietest support came from a dad who left this note, posted to Facebook by FCKH8, after he overheard his teenage son worriedly planning to come out to him. Gives one hope.
Nate,
I overheard your phone conversation with Mike last night about your plans to come out to me. The only thing I need you to plan is to bring home OJ and bread after class. We are out, like you now.
I've known you were gay since you were six, I've loved you since you were born.
- Dad
