Termed "petty," "vengeful," and "vindictive bullying," the move by a giant power company in the U.K. to sue 21 climate change activists for millions of dollars for their week-long occupation of power station chimneys is evidently backfiring, with customers leaving in droves, public outrage and a petition against the lawsuit at times drawing 1,000 signatures an hour. The occupation by No Dash For Gas of an Électricité de France (EDF) power station, aimed at challenging the U.K. government's plan to build up to 40 new gas-fired stations, featured dramatic aerial maneuvers and halted an estimated 20,000 tons of CO2 emissions - and, with EDF's lawsuit, may have launched what one critic calls the biggest anti-corporate campaign in over a decade. Most of the protesters go to court March 20. The jury is still out on corporate bullies.
