Pakistani surgeons have successfully removed a bullet from the head of Malala Yousafzai, the 14-year-old BBC blogger, activist and National Peace Award winner shot by a Taliban gunman for "promoting western culture" and speaking out for girls' education. The shooting has sparked protests, prayers and anger across Pakistan.

"Malala Yousafzais is in critical condition today, and so is Pakistan." - a scathing editorial on Pakistan's inability to rein in the Taliban.
