Ruling on a 2007 case in which DEA agents battered down the door to a California family's mobile home, cuffed, forced to the floor and screamed obscenities at two daughters aged 11 and 14, and held a gun to the youngest one's head, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals said last week that "a rational trier of fact could find that agents engaged in 'extreme or outrageous' conduct - especially given that they had the wrong house. The court ruled, however, the DEA agents were justified in treating the girls' entirely innocent parents the same way. While the raid was conducted under Bush, the Obama Administration could have declined to defend the DEA in the case. It didn't.
