Victims of Beauty and Media

When the Bulgarian fashion magazine 12 recently ran a "fashion spread" featuring images of brutalized women, it caused an uproar. They felt moved to respond, arguing they do not support violence against women and "what is beautiful about fashion" and the images is that they "can be seen from various angles." Critics argue there is far too much violence against women in real life - 4.8 million domestic violence assaults and rapes a year in this country - for us to want to see it in a fashion magazine. Try as you might, there's just no good angle on that.
