Putting A Face On the Statistics in Mexico's (Otherwise Unsuccessful) War on Drugs

A similar project by JR in Ramallah
After five years of Mexico's bloody, ineffective war on drugs, over half the population say they feel unsafe in their own neighborhoods and activist residents are turning to communal art projects and other grassroots efforts to combat the violence by increasing awareness of its impact. Those with "credentials of blood" are publishing Portraits for Peace, making videos to share stories, and now, inspired by the international street artist JR, putting up huge photographic portraits of victims to put people "in the shoes of the other."

Trying make sociopaths compassionate. Interesting. I like what they're doing, it's just that the the real thugs are not going to suddenly grow compassion. Still a more compassionate society will make the thugs have to hide their actions. I notice sociopaths do hide until they mistakenly think the tide is turned and their violence has social approval.
I'm pretty sure the reason they keep killing peace activists (musicians that stand for peace) is because they are the biggest enemy sociopaths. Peaceful people call the murderers what they are. They expose them. This isn't unlike cop's and the right wing's hatered for peace activists here in the US. So, yeah, I bet this wall campaign of compassion will work by turning the social tide against them.
Didn't you know? The drug gang members are victims of the war on drugs.
Like soldiers, they play their part in the murderer. Have you read any interviews of the ones in prison? They usually went out in groups, murdering people, when they weren't running drugs.
Yep.
“Mexico’s War on Drugs” more accurately called the US War on Drugs is another profitable franchise of the 1%. Banks and gun suppliers love narco-dollars, mass misery be damned!
“What we’ve created, with a foreign policy, meaning our free trade treaty, is, one, slave factories all over the country, where nobody can live on the wages, two generations at least of feral kids on the street……….Now there’s part — Juárez is running a murder rate of about 200 per 100,000. This city is probably — New York is probably running, what, nine or something. There’s parts of the edges of Juárez that are running 1,600 per 100,000, which is a kill rate of an actual war……….Why are we giving a half-a-billion dollars a year for this thing, when this war has been going on forty years now? Every drug is more available in this country than it was forty years ago. Every drug has higher quality. Every drug is cheaper………What we’ve done is what we’ve done historically: we’ve gotten on the wrong side. We’re not siding with the Mexican people. We’re siding with the people that own the country and terrorize them……We can’t have a peaceful country where it destroys the livelihood of the people in it. There’s got to be decent wages…..You’re not going have a peaceful world if you’re making war on the poor…

Are you saying these drug gangs have NO choice when they murder?
That economic and political circumstances beyond their control make them into murderers?
If that were case then why doesn't everyone choose to be a murderer?
You are clearly clueless about this subject Morticia, try reading up and reasoning about it... it isnt as simple as you appear to believe. "Say no to drugs" yeah right, its so damn easy isnt it? those "weak" drug users smoking the "devils weed" are guilty of the thousands of dead... of course! and certainly no innocent are murdered and no cops, judges, bankers and politicians are involved in the drug trade. Prohibition doesnt work and it never will, the sooner you and the ill informed get this trough their skulls and start demandng for FULL LEGALIZATION OF ALL DRUGS the sooner it will get better as it stands now it will get much worse.
I never said any of the things you say I did.
I see you live in denial... check your first comment on the thread. And try to analyze the intent and meaning of what is written. English is your native language isnt it?
Are drugs, guns and hoes the problem or is it the folks who want to get rid of them?
the murders are committed by the drug cartels
Where does the money go, the billions and billions of dollars, where does it go?
Serious people in Mexico now realize what a disasterous mistake it was to follow the US plan to combat drugs. They would have been much better off if they legalized drugs but I assume the Americans would kill any Mexican leader that went against their wishes because there are many people in the corrupt governing elite of the United States who are making a fortune on this scam.
Political rights or just slaves
A culture of people made up of millions use drugs. Why is it crime control the Drugs people use? Vote for a better way. Having crime control the drugs make a lot of the abuse. They have laws that make it illegal to use drugs. All that did was give crime control of the drugs people use. Why would the do this and have it this way ?
