Go Figure Dept: Hoping to fend off wild-eyed anarchists and other unruly types, Tampa officials prepping for this summer's Republican convention want to set up a "clean zone" where protesters will be forbidden to wield water or air pistols, plastic or metal pipe, or wood longer than a ruler - but guns, thanks to Florida's loopy laws, are fine by them. The dichotomy, note gun control advocates, is not just dumb, but counter-intuitive.
"I don't think many of the people at that end of the spectrum carry guns anyway. This is a Republican thing." - gun-control advocate Arthur Hayhoe.

Show AllWhy can I sadly envision a horde of semi-literate Limbaugh-worshipping Rethugs descending en-masse from the convention floor to take advantage of Florida's asinine 'Stand Your Ground' laws to engage in their adolescent fantasy of being Rambo, and gunning down rank after rank of unarmed dogmatic pacifist OWS-style protestors. And after the smoke has cleared, all being exonerated by the Police and Courts because they felt 'threatened'...
The great gathering of violence supporters are afraid the peace crowd is going to hurt them with, peaceful ideas, I guess. So they're bringing guns.
The interesting thing is they really don't realize they are the violent anarchists they should be worried about.
I think you have fallen for the Elite's definition of what anarchy is.
'Anarchy' is defined as being without rulers, ie: without an imposed social dominance hierarchy, where you are held personally responsible for your actions by the wider community.
If anything, the Rethugs are utterly addicted to and dependent upon an imposed rigid and narrowly defined social structure, the exact diametric opposite of what anarchy embraces, as it allows them to be free from personal responsibility and critical thinking. Violent, yes. Anarchist, no.

It's no good looking it up in the dictionary -- most dictionaries don't have it right either.

Isn't it amazing how many dictionaries use ruling-class definitions!
A proper definition would of course be:
Anarchy (n)
1) A condition of having no ruling class except ones peers; democracy
2) A political philosophy in which government consists of functionaries who are delegated to exercise community/state power for specific tasks, and whose mandate can be withdrawn by the people at any moment for any reason.

They will be attacked by skittles and iced tea wielding protesters in the name of Trayvon Martin. All hoodies will come out and ignore this irrellevent excercise in ignorance only to be gunned down by GOPer's fear of reality. This will lead to some rationale to invade Cuba. And the Dems will say, "Huh? What's going on? Did we lose another election?" Confusing? You bet.
Liberal and progressive friends. Conservatives want to throw you into gulags and kill you. They convinced you to disarm and be still while thy screw you with a broomhandle.
Quit your bitching and whining and arm yourselves well for protection. Not in concealed carry which causes more deaths than being disarmed, but in open carry where people can see the gun and won't mess with each other in the first place.

The problem is that most armed people in society are conservatives that want to kill liberals. They can afford to get ruder and cruder with unarmed people. You don't see many well armed cons diss other well armed cons.

Perhaps more meaningful gun laws would be passed if the left began to openly carry en masse. Conservatives would not likely tolerate "liberals" weilding that sort of power.

True. Conservatives live in fear and swim in booze. But why should libs let these reactionaries dominate us with their guns and not defend ourselves from them by also carrying guns?
In honor of the Republican convention, Tampa Bay's city fathers have renamed the arena from the Tampa Bay Times Forum to the OK Corral while the convention takes place.
Gunfight at OK Corral! Where and when have we seen this movie before? Ain't this where the outlaw band made their final stand? Where are Wyatt Earp, his brothers, and Doc Holliday? The cons "have called the play. We'll do it their way." Bang, bang, bang! Yeah!
