Eight...Oops, 12 and Counting - Sponsors Have Had Enough. Now Radio Stations Have Too.

At least eight companies, including AOL, have now bailed on the misogynistic gasbag formerly known as Rush. The U.S. military isn't one of them, but female veterans are working on it. Meanwhile, Sandra Fluke dismissed Limbaugh's "apology" in her first TV interview. More here and here on the bountiful apologies overdue from the guy who "puts the vile in juvenile."
Update: Make that 12. Of his remaining roughly 30 sponsors, many are reportedly planning to pull their ads.
Another: Two radio stations have now dropped his "show."

Show AllWho is the whore?
Look at yourself, you wicked, fat, drugged up piece of human garbage!
There was an opportunity missed by Ms. Fluke to drag Rush Limbaugh out of his deep, self-hating closet and draw parallels between that and his hateful ignorance, misogyny and racism.
Or, as comedian Blaine Capatch put it: "Rush Limbaugh is making fat, bald, prescription-drug-addicted, racist, closet queens on their fourth childless marriages look bad."
Why was AOL sponsoring this drug-addled, misogynist hate-manger in the first place? This from the company who swallowed the Huffington Post last year?
I'm in no way defending this practice, but I've noticed that when "respectable" corporations-- pardon the oxymoron-- hire rancid shit-stirrers and slimeballs like Limbaugh, they apply a standard "upbeat" rhetoric: they cheerfully airbrush or whitewash their choice by describing him as a "great communicator" with a "gift for provoking discussion", etc.
They typically baldly deny, or at least downplay, the nefarious aspects of their talent-- so from an official standpoint, Limbaugh is merely "colorful" and "popular"; at worst, he's rationalized as "controversial" in a GOOD way, and not because he's a creepy wingnut demagogue.
This attempt at sanitizing seems to satisfy those who are already looking for reasons to be OK with the corporate sponsorship.
To me, it's very much like overspraying a cheap, heavily-perfumed "air freshener" in a filthy restroom where someone has just taken a particularly fetid dump-- the combination of the original offensive odor and the chemical "fix" is way more revolting and nauseating than what it was employed to improve.
That's the most accurate description of the whole thing I've heard. That vivid olfactory metaphor will stay with me longer than I'd like, but it makes the point. We need to see, and smell, Limbaugh's influence on America of the past 2 decades for what it is _ a stench.
Have you been to HuffPo since the takeover? Right wing all the way.
1. Why are tax dollars spent on supporting Slush Lim-bow to begin with / and how much ? In regards to the US military money.
2. My wife is right now in a one person protest parade against Lim-bow. These insults are to all women , therefore all women should rise up against Lim-bow and all the sponsors.
3. This time we cannot forget his crap.
4. His mother should whip his behind.
5. Freedom of speech would allow me to say anything I like against Lim-bow, but I refuse to lower myself to that level.
6. I invite Lim-bow to the VFW I belong to. we respect women there and teach those who don't.
When I was ten years old I lived in Israel for one year. In my first weeks of playing with my new neighborhood friends I learned the Hebrew curse for "son of a whore", and learned that if one ever dared saying that to another kid they'd better be ready to run like hell 'cause they will get their butt kicked. I propose that the big fat white guy be served notice that because he has insulted our sisters, daughters and mothers he better be damned ready for a good chase around the block of whatever f*ckin corporate building he spews his hate from. It would be a blessed day to see him being chased like a ten year old but gasping for breath, like the fat, out of shape piece of blubber that he is.
Excellent call. That "corporate" building he broadcasts from is his home.
Maybe somebody will light up his building. Limbaugh's "affiliates"--that's the term Obama uses to describe the innocents he so blithely incinerates along with "insurgents"--might want to exercise care that they don't become collateral damage.
The far right doesn't know that women can vote these days? How can they allow their leader to talk this way! Are the Republicans that afraid of this guy? Kinda like getting in a pissing match with a skunk! It just stinks.
I'm surprised, not, that he had any advertisers left after he was so cruel to Michael J Fox a few years ago.
I just clicked on Abby's link to "military," then went to bottom of page and clicked on "feedback," then left a nice message asking them to set a good moral example by withdrawing their sponsorship and spending of American taxpayers' on Rush Limbaugh, who is not a well man.
Perhaps some of you would like to leave a message on the military's communication website, too? Might make a difference - who knows?
He is not a well man, you are right, he is a piece of dog shit. The republicans spokesman, their leader, their GOD, listen up, women can vote you dip shit. He has been married four times and has no spawn, no children, do you think his wives used birth control pills? maybe not, thank god he cannot reproduce. Thank God I didn't step in Limbaugh.
Didn't Rush try to import a controlled substance (Viagra, that he didn't have a prescription for) into this country, thereby committing a Federal Offense? Why would a wealthy someone need to leave the U.S.A. (land of *Freedom*) to have sex anyway? Maybe the victims (sex with this animal should be a crime) were under 18? I wouldn't be surprised if they found Natalie Holloway chained up in his house.
mathmatically you can not be a slut at 30 I think the correct term is tramp, the only thing this flap will do is add a new letter word to out list ,s word, n word b word etc.
Rush Limbaugh: A pig with a porcinality to match.
"The govt?" Sponsors are bailing out of the rancid ship Rush because of the GOVERNMENT? Think again...
"Think again"?
Not the best advice for someone who can't even manage to think once.
ga-ziiinnnnnnggggg!
Just read the CD (Abby) piece on Mrs. Romney's whining that she doesn't have enough time to spend practicing dressage with her horse. Here was my comment.
I'm repeating it here so you can all spread the word that Limbaugh's employer is Bain Capital...........see below.
(from cleanearth earlier) Mar 5 2012 - 10:32pm.
I noticed at the very end (why at the end?) of the AP article in today's newspaper that Clear Channel--or whatever it's called--that Rush Limbaugh rants for is owned by Bain Capital, which is/was/is Mitten Romulan's corporate takeover company.
Perhaps this might be a useful point to make during the campaign. And Mrs. Romulan might be asked if she supports women's right to contraceptives, which would obviate the need for abortions...........just a thought.
ever notice how republicans name call others and convict those as gay, or homosexual, pedophile, and then all of a sudden they are found out to be one? (gay, homo, sexual pervert). so i am guessing the old "fat bastard" is a "slut" in a guys drag.
with this pig you never know.
All of these corporations are in it for the money, nothing else. If they are bailing on Slush, it is only because they think he might be a threat to the bottom line. It's temporary - they will be back after all of this blows over. Americans have the attention span of a cockroach ......
So ironic. Rush is so far from reality when he rants about tax dollars paying for Ms Fluke's sex life while in reality our tax dollars (through pentagon advertising) are paying for Rush's putrid rantings.
Does anyone really think the sponsors dropping off now won't right back in a few weeks/months? Limp-bow has been making offensive remarks like this for years. He likes stirring up controversy and being in the limelight. He's a big fat narcissistic liar who makes $50 million a year dispensing the oligarchy's worldview. He's very effective at what he does: confusing people, and getting them to hate the scapegoats the oligarchs want them to hate. He ain't goin' nowhere.
Limbaugh has been a repulsive scumbag for decades and has made innumerable remarks on his show that were beyond the pale. But why are so many plutocrats willing to throw their long-time servant (an extremely well-compensated one) under the bus now? I never listen to him but I know some people that do and they say that he has been lambasting Mittens for months. Could that explain it? Mittens' plutocrat friends were looking for an excuse to pull the plug on him and he, as he so often does, went over-the-top in vulgarity and despicability and gave them that excuse?
The collective mind of USers is fascinating. A lot of nation-wide discontent because Limbaugh made a stupid, inflammatory statement. The media and blogosphere are on fire with anger at him. Contrast that to what happened to Phil Donahue when he questioned the legitimacy of the US war against Iraq. Donahue's show was immediately cancelled. His iconic career was ended. There was hardly a peep out of the people. No one noticed. Estimates of the civilian dead in Iraq are as high as 3 million. (Not many noticed that either.)
Just for the record...I support Limbaugh's right to free speech. Maybe someday we will even see the First Amendment restored in Vermont
There is no right to free speech on the publicly owned airwaves. That is why using those airwaves requires an FCC license. We cannot express our views on the airwaves and Mr. Limbaugh has no "right" to express his. In fact since St. Reagan's trashing of the Fairness Doctrine, there is nothing compelling even equal time for an opposing viewpoint. This is what made hate-mongering radio possible, by the way. But I digress. Limbaugh has been exercising a privilege. One he should have abused for the last time.
pwayne...it is in PUBLIC spaces that free speech should be protected. In private homes, it is legal to censor speech. All PUBLIC facilities should adhere to the First Amendment. Hate speech is wrong - immoral - but it is not, and should not be, illegal.
I am amazed at how many are so willing to throw away the protection of the First Amendment. Maybe it is like water. You don't miss it until there is none. In Vermont we have a problem with censorship. This has had a profound affect on everything. Censorship means that people are prevented from knowing what they don't know. Think about that. The unknown unkowns.........
I concur
You're right of course, Rosemarie -- even Limbic's speech shouldn't be made illegal. It's repulsive, devoid of value, and arguably slanderous, but that's at most a tort.
The fascinating question for me is: should he be allowed to use the power of money to commit torts.
He can (and does!) produce the most eye-wateringly blatant lies, secure in the knowledge that nobody can effectively respond: his money protects him. His victims typically can't sue him, whether because his lies are general enough that, while everyone is injured, no individual is specifically injured, or because people specifically injured haven't the depth of pocket to compete with him.
So the very most anyone can hope for is an outpouring of rage that convinces enough of his advertisers to decide that they've something else to do. Very chancy, that. We still don't know how it's all going to play out in the current case.
So that makes me wonder why it's not considered a public good to have a public defence against empty attacks by someone like Limbic. There are many jurisdictions where someone injured by a crime can get restitution from the common wealth. Why aren't such acts as these considered similar?
I'm not a fan of Limbaugh, he is way too socially conservative and supports way too much government spending for my taste.
With that said I believe he and his radio show will not be hit very hard when all is said and done.
I doubt his ratings will go down, in fact they may go up; if they do companies will pay to advertise on his show.
Remember Waco and David Koresh? That didn't affect him negatively for very long.
I never looked into it, but I suspect former President Bush and Bush's policy's cost Limbaugh the most.
I am so sick & tired of learning of Limbaugh's latest outrageous attacks and lies, whether against liberals, "feminazis", minorities...whomever, whatever.
With this recent attack on Ms. Fluke and women and upstanding; as in. no knuckles dragging the ground,..., compassionate people everywhere, we must take this hatefilled gasbag down! Please help to pressure Clear Channel to take his show off the air. Click here to add your name to the petition:

This isn't about freedom of speech. I'd fight any legislative or regulatory attempt to curtail Rush's rails. The backlash against him is a commercial matter, involving the 'free market' he so cherishes. It's about consumers demanding a company stop polluting the environment.
