GOP in Maine Though Also Pretty Much Everywhere Else: OOPS

Much like Iowa only worse, Maine Republicans evidently misspoke when they announced Romney won the state's caucuses. It seems some counties hadn't even met yet and others might have been miscounted and in fact Ron Paul - who supposedly lost by 200 votes - might have won, so sorry but could the local "leaders" please resend their vote totals and this time they'll try not to screw them up? Ron Paul’s campaign called the exclusion of some results “inexplicable," which kind of resonates for us. Rachel Maddow has much more on the possibly historic Maine fiasco. And proving the old maxim that, As Maine Goes, So Goes the Nation, a new survey finds that nobody likes Republicans, citing "a collapse of the Republican brand at almost all levels." We can't imagine why.

Show All"A collapse of the Republican brand at almost all levels." - Except under the FOX News media shield. Gingrich said he might lose Georgia and Romney might lose Michigan and Santorum might lose PA. Maybe Sarah will come along and save the day at the convention. Anything is possible in mythical (R)ville!
Yeah, Sarah can save the GOP! Just give her the chance to strut without that old fart crampin' her style. She'll wink her way into the electorat's heart. And just think how much it will do to boost the stand up comic trade.
You are right she and Michelle Bachman, the dumb and dumber ticket, a real no brainer!
I am a left, progressive voter, voting for the Green Party in the last 3 Presidential elections. I have decided that this November, that I am going to vote for Ron Paul. If he is not on the Republican or Libertarian tickets, then I will write in his name. I am a one issue voter, and it is NO MORE WAR.
Yes me too.
Its been staring us in the face for 4 years.
I think you will find the antagonism to this around here pretty vociferous.

Indeed....Thank heavens for those cutting edge Democrats - they are so very out of the box!
The crooked Republi Con, Maine vote does not surprise me as like I have posted many times: Ron Paul gets no respect and is the Rodney Dangerfield of the Greedy Old Party!
That's a relief. They have needed a Rodney Dangerfield for SO long now. Maybe we can find the Dems a Red Buttons.
So if you read the survey - which I don't trust fully as it has a Dem bias since it's conducted by the Dem party:
"First, Planned Parenthood enjoys a solid brand among voters (50 percent positive and only 32 percent negative on the thermometer rating) and is actually more popular than the NRA (44 percent warm, 32 percent cool), as voters seem to prefer pills to bullets."
"More broadly, voters may wonder why the Republicans are consumed with pushing back health coverage for women rather than continuing to focus on the economy, spending and debt."
--
Note - the Catholics are trying to prevent women from getting coverage for contraceptives at all, in their health care plans at Catholic facilities(hospitals etc.) - which the survey cites before this statment above. It is not a statement on abortion.
-----------------------------------------------------
"These results loom large when voters prefer Democrats over Republicans by 52 to 26 percent on women’s issues, including a 36-point margin among senior women and a 47-point margin among unmarried women."
--
This is probably true. Republicans really are shooting themselves in the foot when they go after women issues. They're alienating their own.

"Obama and Democrats lost the country in 2010 and many disillusioned voters were ready to give the Republicans a chance and were very open to new presidential options.[2] Instead, they see a party and leaders determined to stop President Obama rather than work with him, stuck in an anti-tax mantra with few economic ideas, seemingly hostile to the middle class and aligned with the 1 percent and, more recently, obsessed over social issues when the economy still looms as the biggest problem. That performance, coupled with an improving economic mood in the country, may be locking in perceptions that may be hard to unlock over the summer and fall."

I'll buy that this is a correct statement.
It has become painfully obvious that the Repugs are going through the same sort of travails as the Nazi party did in 1931: their rowdy foot soldiers are becoming estranged from their establishment. One wonders when they will have their own version of the Night of the Long Knives.
It seems that you have been asleep, my friend: even though all Repucrats from any of the two parties are definitely in travails to deliver fascism, the ones who have effectively broken the camel's back, up from the pain ole reactionary warmongering of the late Republican administration to today's arrogant, Nazi-style suppression of the Rule of Law, are the Democrats.
The line between incompetence and corruption is a very thin one in the United States which is dominated by both scourges but I'm convinced that this was deliberate cheating by the Romney operatives that had control of this operation.
The Brad Blog is on top of this "Stolen Election" with detailed coverage that Abbey would be advised to read, http://www.bradblog.com/?p=9123 and http://www.bradblog.com/?p=9125
A brief excerpt: "So the "publicly counted" votes --- the type of counting that The BRAD BLOG has been advocating for years as Democracy's Gold Standard --- sent a signal to the GOP that they'd have a difficult time gaming the numbers. Instead of reporting the numbers they had for Belfast, however (the ones which claimed Romney won), or the ones from the actual caucus chair (showing Paul had won), they just reported ZERO votes all together.
"They appear to have done the same thing in town after town in their own results posted on Saturday night --- the ones which, at the bottom, show Romney having "won" by just 194 votes."
And their most important observation and comment:
"REMINDER: This is how elections are stolen --- by folks on the inside, by folks who run the elections and/or have access to the reporting of the supposed results. They are not stolen by imaginary "dead" voters showing up at the polls on Election Day (as folks like Webster and the bulk of Republican officials across the country like to claim.) No polling place Photo ID restriction was required for Republicans casting their votes at Maine's GOP caucuses, neither would such a restriction have stopped Webster from declaring Romney the "winner" of the Maine Caucuses as he did last Saturday night."
Furthermore:
"In both Iowa and now Maine, it has been members of the public who have been able to step forward to point out the inaccurate totals reported by the state Republican Parties in each state after they tried to award their races to Romney whether he actually won or not.....
"In both cases, this was possible because paper ballots were publicly hand-counted. Had those ballots been tabulated by a computer, where results can simply be changed with a few keystrokes, there would have been little evidence of theft for anybody to report on, and the corporate media would have simply moved on and declared a site such as The BRAD BLOG, attempting to oversee the elections and point out disparities and anomalies discovered during our investigation, as little more than a "conspiracy site"."
I would publically declare the Fix is In and available for all to see.
The issue has never been voter fraud since voters don't do the counting. Election fraud is very real, and no surprise since only politicians do the counting.
So it becomes clear that Romney is the only GOP candidate that could possibly unseat Obama because he knows how to fix election results? Except that he doesn't seem to be very successful at that either.
I am betting Bush wished he could just send some vote tallies to spam. I realize primaries are different than national elections, but this does seem like an indication of how things are going to go in Novemeber.
The survey is meaningless -- or even worse. The fact that it was done by Democratic pollsters pretty much clinches it.
Whether voters "like" Republicans, or anybody else, is irrelevant. Whether they vote for Republicans, or even bother to turn out for elctions is important.
The most salient fact, however, is whether the opponents of Repubicans can field candidates and offer programs that are alternatives to economic idiocy, mass murder and collective suicide.
The Democratic Party fails to do any of that; other alternative parties have either been forced to the margins because the game is fixed, or have failed to build credible alternatives because of internal screwups and bickering.
Let's save likes and dislikes for Facebook and children's assessments.
"he most salient fact, however, is whether the opponents of Repubicans can field candidates and offer programs that are alternatives to economic idiocy, mass murder and collective suicide."
No it matters if ANY party can field a candidate.
If you see that the Republican AND the Democratic establishment are both at fault then you could notice that there is an alternative, ie Ron Paul, who rates on the issues you just raised and is clearly not a corporate shill.
I know I know the Green party needs a vote or two.
While waiting for the third party alternative which won't happen this year, why not try voting for a candidate that already has a huge base and could work with progressives on some of the most pressing issues of the day?
The Republican primaries have turned into a circus. But that,s what happens when a group of hustlers who try to pass themselves off as politicians try to put forth a campaign that amounts to nothing more than what the Republicans have been pushing for the last 30 years. From ReaCONomics to Bushitnomics all we get from the Republicans is "GIVE ME MONEY!" Read my web page at www.mybetteramericaplan.com to see how the Republicans have destroyed America and how President Bush caused 9/11 to happen. If the Republicans win control of our government they will extend the Bush tax cuts permanently and make abortions illegal forever. Is that what you want America?! The Democrats can easily win the next election by moving voters from states that they are sure to win and sure to lose and move and re register them in states that the Democrats need to win.Pass on the word!
The Republicans have now managed to alienate African-Americans, Hispanics, women, the 99%, Moslems, those Jews who don't think that everything Israel does is beyond reproach, and probably lots of others as well. What's left would seem to be about 14 rich white guys. They're digging that hole deeper and deeper.
