Giving It Back to the (Grossly Hypocritical) 1%

Levie, left, with other award recipients
Al Levie is a social studies teacher and community activist in Wisconsin. He is also one brave and principled guy: When Rep. Paul Ryan tried to give him a Congressional certificate honoring a Martin Luther King humanitarian award Levie had just won, Levie refused it, calling out Ryan out as "a lackey for the 1%" whose policies are an insult to King's stands for civil rights and economic justice. Bravo. Video.

Show AllThank you Al Levie. For me this was an essential affirmation of the word and concept of dignity, and emblematic of something we all need to be doing.
Rep Ryan is of the 'pride' school - which appears to be fulfilling the prophetic observation of going before a fall. Militarism, corporatism constantly demanding "pride" is the magic jingoistic formula to package human beings for cannon fodder for wars and deceptive politics that are now documented as being founded on lies.
Occupy the lexicon and with the legitimate voice !
Good for Mr. Levie, just the thought of Paul Ryan having anything to do with Mr. King makes me want to throw up! He is such an ass hole!
My thought exactly....
Yes, Paul Ryan is not worthy of licking Mr. Kings boots!
let me throw in my congrats - an act of real social awareness
well done
now i guess we can wait for mr levie to have a single car crash or to be involved in a plane crash like congressman wellstone
made my day, thanks again
yes, al did good. and that entirely appropriate nose-thumbing to one of the most glaring symbols of corporatism and economic injustice - the embodiment of the dying paradigm - must be repeated as often as possible by any and all, as we move into and occupy our rightful place of dignity in this undignified land.
truth to power - truth to power - from our elders and from our youth...there is no power any day or any hour - without truth! gimme some truth!
Hear, hear, yes Starkraving
move into and occupy our rightful place of dignity in this undignified land...

powerfully put so I nominate you now as a new wordsmith extraordinaire for occupy
Thank you Mr. Levie. Well done and an excellent example to set for your students. Let's hope there isn't an attempt to cut your job out from under you...
"Our society needs to reorder its priorities and meet human need instead of fostering individual human greed."
Indeed! Well done Mr. Levie.
Al Levie, Good job young man, but the G reedy O ne P ercent will now order you targeted, bound and thrown in jail, and will take away your shoes. That is how nutball they are for the crazies now are running the insanetorem asylum. The 99 % all honor you now with a place in our hearts, you da man.
Magnificent gesture, Al Levie. Brave and bold, too. Make sure to ask your friends, your students and their parents, and your union watch your back.
Brilliant. Courageous. Admirable.
Bravo!
The 1% have been waging a relentless class warfare against the poor and workers for decades. The occupy Wall Street is a peaceful retaliation that must educate the masses that we the 99% did not start this class war. But we hope to end it by getting shared sacrifice from the rich paying fair taxes and stimulate government living wage jobs to build America safely while paying people to spend and grow the economy.
Rob Zerban has a very good chance to defeat Paul Ryan.
A little goes a long way here http://www.robzerban.com/
That is one STAND UP GUY!!! Bravo.
