Who Needs Lowe's?

Despite or maybe because of the retail giant Lowe's backing down in the face of stupid bigots, ad time for the TLC reality series "All-American Muslim" has apparently sold out, with hip hop mogul Russell Simmons poised to buy up any unsold time. Lowe's pulled its commercials from the show, which follows the utterly ordinary activities of five Muslim families in Dearborn, Michigan, after the Florida Family Association complained the show "is attempting to manipulate Americans into ignoring the threat of jihad" by, in fact, showing that nobody in the show is in any way interested in jihad. A petition to boycott Lowe's here. And a brilliant Jon Stewart on how facts sure can mess with one's "belief structure," aka stupid bigotry.

Show AllFlorida is the fourth largest state in the union by population and the fourth largest recipient of DHS funds, of course the aholes down here would raise the " threat of jihad" card. Try living in this police state, just another day in tropical stasi paradise.
Trust me when I say, the stasi love it down here, they will create as many suspects as they need to create as many stasi jobs as they need.We should change the name of this state to Fearida from Florida. The right wing Christian Stasi have been screwing with my life 24/7 for 5 years, in every way possible. I am broke and jobless because of them, and thats what they do to people who fight them and try to expose the stasi. They are doing Gods work, or so they will tell you. My observations are that they are anything but God fearing people, committing acts of torture and destroying peoples lives , almost murder.
There's a high-tech way for David Caton of the Florida Family Association to prevent TV from challenging his prejudices with reality. I call it 'turning the channel', though others refer to this procedure as 'clicking the remote'.
By the way, David: if you're watching a lot of television, your 'belief structure' is not one I'd be out advertising.
LOL. Well stated. Turn the channel and don't watch what you don't like. Better yet, open a book and read what you want.
This woud be laughable if it didn't reflect the pathetic stupidity of the average 'murkin. I am reminded of Geogre Carlin's joke about just think how dumb the average person is. 50% of the people are dumber than that. Sorry George if I butchered the joke but you get the point. As far a Lowes, I have refused to shop there at any time because of their corporate rules consumers drool way of conducting their business.
I don't know why any of this is a surprise. Let's face it, Lowe's caters to the construction industry, which is about as redneck an industry as there is. Totally predictable behavior on their part.
Bye, (not buy) Lowe's, you won't see a lousy centime from me. Time for other advertisers to step and show there is limit to which stupidity and bigotry can be tolerated....do we do this anymore in America?
Well seems if you want to support the show you might just be buying a lot of hiphop.
I want to thank David Caton for doing a great service to the program, “All-American Muslims”. Thanks to his anti-Muslim paranoia, that program will probably become the most-watched show on cable television.
I have to wonder, though-if Caton is so worried about certain religions sending out a bad message or being a threat to “American values”,(like freedom from religious persecution, David?) why hasn’t he yet targeted the TLC channel’s program called, “Sister Wives”, about the family of Mormons where one man has four wives and about 15 kids? Doesn’t that kind of arrangement seem un-Christian, giving one man so much authority while he procreates prolifically? Isn’t that a threat to “American liberties and values”, and throw a monkey wrench at the “one man, one woman” standard of the “traditional” Christian family? How come Caton doesn’t find THAT stuff threatening? Could it be because those Mormon’s don’t have dark skin?
All this fear-based ignorance and hate. It makes me wonder what Jesus might think of all this....
Matthew 25:40: “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ "
Or maybe, "Love your neighbor as yourself."
If I was a reporter I would ask the lowes spokesman one very simple question, with a followup, because I know what the answer to the first question would be before I asked it. I would ask; "Would you allow an antisemitic group to cause you to stop sponsoring a Jewish themed show". Now we all know the answer would be "Of course not!!!".
Then I would ask, what's the difference?
If you need paint or plaster or a screwdriver, go to your local hardware store. I have used Lowes in the past in preference to Home Depot, but no more.
How much Lowe's-er
can Corporations go-ser ?

"Lowe's pulled its advertising … explaining that the question of whether Muslims can be presented as regular human beings is a "hotly contested debate." "
I suspect that being a "regular human being," is not an option at corporate HQ of Lowe's, nor at the FBI for that matter …

What's the word for what these radical christians are advocating for those of us who don't believe as they do; for all politically left-leaning people; for planning to take over every aspect of life and force the people to live by their rules; for replacing the Constitution with the Bible and advocating death to any who oppose them? What's the difference between that and the Islamic jihad?
"What's the difference between that and the Islamic jihad?"
Heretical Xtians have many millions more dollars behind creating actual terrorists, but certainly much less than the FBI and other agents of empire have.
Why is only Lowes counter-targeted? If you go to David Caton's Florida Family website, you'll see he lists numerous advertisers who have either already given in & pulled their advertising, or who HE and his army of bigots are targeting because they are still advertising. And it's not just this one TV show....any entity that doesn't subscribe to his version of morality, acceptable sexuality or the American way of life is a potential or actual target. It's how he makes his living. His holier than thou schtick makes me want to puke.
It is certainly Lowes right not to offend their customers, even after all the restricting laws passed by the bloated government.
Jon Stewart missed a chance to riff on Jeanne Kirkpatrick's early 80's insistence on Soviet interference in Nicaragua. Our own intelligence could find no proof of such, arguing instead that the revolt was genuine and grassroots, but to Madam Secretary this was proof that revolutionaries needed no direction from Moscow to carry out orders.
meanwhile - the threat of Crusade carries on...
OK, I agree, Lowes has given in to right-wing pressure which means that those of us that object to this should retaliate by showing our political and economic strength by promise to stop doing business with Lowes.
Through my business, on average I spend $10,000 a year at Lowes. Does this now mean (and it does) that I switch much of this business to Home Despot.
How do I know that HD up in the board rooms is any better than Lowes? In fact, it could be far worse.
The only proof I have here that Home Despot is any better is that it didn't spend its advertising money on a program aimed at American Muslims while Lowes' advertising executives thought they would take the chance, that American Muslim business was worth seeking through ads (at least until a right-wing hate group lifted its ugly head) on a show aimed at the American Muslim community.
The logic here that's missing is any proof that by switching from Lowes to Home Depot (and today in most of America there isn't any other choice) we are somehow supporting a company less willing to give in to right wing pressure. Maybe, the truth is, Home Depot didn't advertise in the first place on this program because its executives already agreed with the right-wing hate group.
As usual, simple solutions give you simple minded results.
What is worrying, is that the corporate executives caved in and pulled the ad because of some right wing christian nuts served a notice of boycott. I prfer to shop at Lowe's over Home Depot. I also try to use my local Ace Hardware for most of my needs when possible. It is just depressing to see such spineless people running these businesses. Not all Muslim are jihadists. Many are all American families, some whose sons and daughters served honorably in the military, they believe in their country, are more tolerant religiously, and have better family values. Than these so called Christians.
