Just A Little Bit Subversive

The I-75 Project, a "gently assertive" public art project by artist and activist Norm Magnusson, features social and political rather than historical markers along Interstate-75 from Michigan, each one "a small story containing a discrete point of view." Very cool, as is much of his other stuff.

Powerful messages in a culturally accepted wrapper. I makes another less obvious point. Everything that has ever happened is history, everything historic, not just the leaders, political or military, the criminals, the rich, the written about.
Historic is an overused and abused word, like heroes, an under the radar method of controlling belief and dialog. Magnusson takes it to task and reverses the flow.
"Historic is an overused and abused word,...", yes like awesome.
I suppose, but if it fits,
like a heroic shoe and a historic asshole,
or this rad righteous revolutionizing art,
or a clever moniker,
don't hesitate to toss it around.
Let us not forget one of the most insipid phrases ever invented by man and that, of course, would be the meaningless: you know.
You know Erroll, these castings must have required a bunch of energy to produce and that might be deemed a waste, but the pieces are so finely made and the backhanded method of lure followed by the straight forward messages that cut to the bone is a creative stroke of genius. Imagine these on street corners, in the parks, or sitting by a WalMart parking lot or church. Think of the thoughts provoked. Think of the smiles as sanity and truth is brought out into the open, like the many are shackled by the few and we are the many. Anything that helps is good. This is a bit gooder than most and is ..................wait for it ............................. ......... awesome.
"You know" is to teenagers as "as it were" is to pundits.
And "like".
It, like, you know, drives me, like, crazy as it were.
:)
'if you will"
I especially like the sign about the "big box store where you shop". I don't think people are sufficiently aware of what they are supporting by shopping there. If there were a sign for EVERY company put out of business by the make-it-cheaper-in-China store, maybe more people would begin to reject that shopping choice.
Matt Lucash, a Christian.
Fifty million who literally don't know where or when their next meal is coming from. Five million or more homeless. Two hundred million Christians. A government full of Christians. Hmmmmm......
Gandhi was right on..."I like your Christ. I don't like your Christians because they are so unlike your Christ." - Mathatma Gandhi
"Our" Christians (not all but the most outspoken) seem to be the cruelest, most hate mongering humans that exist on this planet. If Jesus were to return, he would be more than likely quite disgusted by those who claim to follow him. Of course these thoughts would be going through his mind while seated in the back of a police car after being arrested for being a longhaired hippie anti-establishment drug suspect.
Always good to see my Michigan peeps bring the noise to the oligarchs!
I wonder how long these signs will be around before the wrath of the Religiou$ Righteou$ fundamentali$t evangelical$ descends on them and smites them asunder?
what will they fetch on the black market?
When people stop honoring them or they can stand alone.
Very clever, original and effective. Bravo!
Zinnesque.
I love this! :-)
As an aside, the title of this article is reminiscent of a song from the 1960s called Just A Little by the Beau Brummels.
I like this idea. I think one should stand that in the town once stood a factory that employed people with a living wage, a way to make life better by a company with dedicated employees. These employees made a living wage, which gave them the ability to own a home, a car, raise a family, supporting local schools, community, which provided for a better tomorrow. "On this site once contained an America, that lived and died on this site"
Everybody should get into this. I can't make cast iron signs but I can post paper ones around. Plus boycott MSM and business. They are the ones that seem to control all the mimes and we need to totally be done with that.
I, too, am against mime control...
this is my mime on drugs...
