Identified: NYPD Officer Who Maced Peaceful Protesters

photo by Jim Kiernan / http://www.flickr.com/photos/jimkiernan/sets/72157627623086865/
A photographer has identified the cruel and cowardly NYPD supervisor who point blank maced a penned in group of young women and then slinks away Saturday at the Occupy Wall Street protests:
Deputy Inspector Anthony V. Bologna of the NYPD Patrol Borough Manhattan South.
TAKE ACTION
If you think Deputy Inspector Bologna should be fired and prosecuted for his abuse of power, file an on-line complaint with:
- Mayor Michael Bloomberg: http://www.nyc.gov/html/mail/html/mayor.html
- and, NYPD Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly: http://www.nyc.gov/html/mail/html/mailnypd.html
- and, the NYC Civilian Complaint Review Board: https://www.nyc.gov/html/ccrb/html/complaint.html
UPDATED: The Guardian reported that Deputy Inspector Anthony Bologna also stands accused of false arrest and civil rights violations in a claim brought by a protester involved in the 2004 demonstrations at the Republican National Convention. Then, 1,800 people were arrested during protests against the Iraq war and the policies of president George W Bush. Alan Levine, a civil rights lawyer representing a protester at the event, told the Guardian that he filed an action against Bologna and another officer in 2007. The case is expected to be heard next year.

Slow-Motion Video of Saturday's Macing Assault
And, James Fallows at The Atlantic writes:
According to the NYT, the chief police spokesman, Paul Browne, said that the policeman used pepper spray "appropriately." Great. On the video we can't hear what either side is saying. But at face value, the casualness of the officer who saunters over, sprays right in the women's eyes, and then slinks away without a backward glance, as if he'd just put down an animal, does not match my sense of "appropriate" behavior by officers of the law in a free society.

Show AllNot that I am sticking up for this asshole…but as I have learned…those men that bully, abuse and continually beat the shit out of others are the ones who as children were beaten and abused themselves. They are just making up for lost time.
I wonder what his service record shows.
Tony Baloney looks like he's gotten in trouble for abusing protestors before:

At least the English media is covering this!
The past tense of "slink" is "slunk" not "slinked".
Piece of shit Tony Boloney, cop, prick, kock sucker, will be protected by the fucking worthless republican whores, this is what the future of America is. Free trade, Money, money, money, greed, greed, greed, republican Koch, roves, Murdock whores. That small town in Iowa where the music man was written about was sold to the big gold bull on wall street. Fuck America?, pray you bastards, to that big gold bull out in front of your bank! Then call yourselves christians! Answer at the pearly gates ass holes!
There was a good reason we called the cops PIGS in the 1960's. Tragic that they STILL do not know which side they need to be on as their own benefits and unions are being attacked. Incredible stupidity.
Why did this cop do this? It seems like it was a very deliberate calculated act. Did he know this girl? Did she do something or say something to him prevously that set him off? I don't mean to blame the victim but it looks like part of the story is missing. The women didn't deserve this in any case. I'm just curious as to the whole story.
He did it BECAUSE HE COULD.
EXACTLY!
EXACTLY!
Are you serious, Mortea???? Maybe you should get out to a protest, instead of just reading about them in the comfort of your home.. The police are the enforcers of the privileged class. They always have been. Read your history of the Labor Union Movement, when cops and "private security" beat and murdered protestors. Read the history of the Civil Rights Movement, when police beat and murdered marchers and organizers. Read the history of the Anti-War Movement, when police acted as agents provocateurs, when non-uniformed cops attempted to cause chaos and create opportunities for their uniformed cohort to attack and arrest protesters by macing them at point-blank distance.
I'm glad you asked, so you could become informed. It's sad that you needed to ask. It is the ignorance of the American Public, giving police, military and government officials the benefit of the doubt, that has brought us to this point.
...
Sad - the only surprising thing here are citizens still surprised at police brutality. Wake up.
Since killing-off the Injun & subduing free slaves, you common folk fill our uniformed officers' gun sights.
An officer is only allowed to use the least amount of force necessary to subdue a suspect who is resisting arrest. These women were never read their Miranda rights, and thus were never under arrest, and even if they were under arrest they did nothing to resist it. What we see here is Officer Bologna having a bad day because he didn't want to be out there dealing with the malcontents so he decides to take his frustrations out on the defenseless women by using excessive force on them.
Video I captured today at the protest of Michael Moore give a semi-speech and than debating with fox news.

This little chickenshit new york police rioter (officer?) needs to get down on \his knees before God and ask forgiveness before turning himself in for unaggravated assault, criminal assault, and abrogating the basic standards of duty of a police officer. He is a danger to the public safety. If NYPD doesnt' deal with him, otherwise, people should identify the bastard and take care to disarm him when he approaches since he is a criminal in uniform. Chickenshit people shouldn't be given badges, much less cowards guns, and slimy old men mace cans. Cut the crap, man. Turn in your badge--you've lost it. Bologna shouldn't be put out in the street in a uniform....
I'm sure his god approves.
bologna |bəˈlōnē| (also bologna sausage)
noun
a large smoked, seasoned sausage made of various meats, esp. beef and pork.
Screw you Pig!
Please, please, please take the time to support all the Wall Street protestors and the maced, penned victims of this cowardly assault in particular by FLOODING the Mayor's Office and the Police Commissioner's Office and the Civilian Complaint Review Board's office with hundreds of thousands of emails:
Mayor Michael Bloomberg: http://www.nyc.gov/html/mail/html/mayor.html
and, NYPD Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly: http://www.nyc.gov/html/mail/html/mailnypd.html
and, the NYC Civilian Complaint Review Board: https://www.nyc.gov/html/ccrb/html/complaint.html
Forward this article with these Contact links to all of your friends and ask them to forward it on, and on, and on. I'll be in DC in October. If you live near NYC or DC, join the protests. If you live elsewhere, find a local protest or start one.
Police departments across America are like motorcycle gangs that will stick up for each member no matter how bad their conduct. The very worst a police abuser will ever get is a token slap as a publicity stunt. They are also nests of corruption but they easily hold sway over equally corrupt politicians.
Back in 2003, at the large anti-war protest in DC, just weeks before Bush's invasion of Iraq, I was concerned for my safety. There could easily have been a government agent planted in the protest whose disruptive behavior could be used as a pretext for the government to stomp out the protesters - providing an example of what could happen if citizens come together to challenge the elite.
The south side to the Capital was surrounded by a line of Capital police as we marched by - it seemed that all of them were black. A white police officer sat in a golf cart, on a hill, behind them and spoke into a radio.
At one point I made eye contact with a black Capital police woman and she seemed to express shame. I think we both realized that just a generation or two earlier the Capital would have been surrounded by a line of white police and black citizens would have been in the streets protesting immoral and unconstitutional government action.
Rolls had been reversed - how easy it is to sellout.
He reminds me of one of those Birmingham cops from the 1960's... unleashing German Shepards on the public. Cleft jaw and all.
As a former police officer, I am appalled at this man's behavior in particular and the commanders in general. With so many commanders participating in this illegal and abusive behavior, it is clear to me that it was ordered and sanctioned by their superior - the chief of police. From the looks on some of their faces, it is also clear that the rank-and-file officers in blue were also appalled. Although a few participated in some of these acts the officers in blue were in the minority and it seems they were being ordered by their superiors to participate in such illegal acts given there was almost always a white-shirt commander with them.
My question is "why is Bologna still employed as a police officer - an officer who swore to protect and serve after his behavior at the Republican Convention in 2004? The first paragraph of the Oath & Code of Ethics an officer takes is "As a Law Enforcement Officer, my fundamental duty is to serve mankind; to safeguard lives and property; to protect the innocent against deception, the weak against oppression or intimidation, and the peaceful against violence or disorder; and to respect the Constitutional rights of all men to liberty, equality and justice."
It is time for a full investigation and not by the police department - fox guarding the hen house assuring that the code of the "thin blue line" will prevail. There needs to be an investigation by the Attorney General's office.
Yes This so-called Deputy Inspector should definitely be investigated more!. My husband who worked under this captain is dead. He was missing for 14 hours and found very suspiciously. We received no pension and no medical insurance. I pray everyday for this tragedy that we continue to endure finds some closure!
You need to get some help, it won't be easy but don't give up.
I have been asking the attorney general for the last several months to investigate this death .....Where is she?!
The cops have been well trained in how to take down and cuff, they practice until its automatic muscle memory, and they are having a field day with these kids that don't put up a fight. Thing is, for each of their maneuvers there is an equally effective counter maneuver, get the tapes and learn them. They did their homework, you should do yours.
Read Unintended Consequences by John Ross.
Timothy McVey did while he was in jail facing his death, and said that he would of not bombed the building and instead used the tactics prescribed in the book!
My recommendation to all you clowns that think change is going to come "peacefully" and through the Democratic process and writing your meaningless opinions in here is to get real! If your really a person of action, then take action. But that wonlt happen as long as you sit on your ass and write meaningless drible!
Once in my life I participated in a peaceful demonstration on request of friends, and I fully support our First Amendment right to do so. Police can be good or bad like anyone else. Some want to protect people in the community. Some with nasty streaks want to bash heads. There must be screening of applicants to keep bad elements, like Officer Bologna, out. In my opinion, his behavior was criminal and he should be immediately fired. I once had a supervisor who was forced into early retirement for pinching someone's sleeve. Actually, she was probably doing it in self-defense, as the woman whose sleeve she pinched came after her, but nobody liked this supervisor and everyone sided with the "victim" who had 50 lbs and 9 inches in height on her. Officer Bologna had about 80 lbs and 10 inches on his victims. Fire his ass!
This is why filming police **is** a criminal act in many states, including Massachusetts.
Duh, in a just society he should be arrested for assault and battery -- period.
Don't worry, everything has always been mostly lies.
That shows once more that behind these nice white and clean shirts are countless brown minds that have nowadays only contempt for 'ordinary people'. We are the scum that needs to be taught a lesson. We are the ones that need to be ambushed with speed traps. We are the ones that are treated as their inferiors. We are the ones that get harassed and intimidated on a daily basis. We are the ones who see big black Ford Mustangs and Dodge Challengers being used as 'police vehicles' - The Taxpayer pays the fuel bill. We are the ones that are spied on by plainclothes waiting for us to break their laws. They really believe they are our bosses. Time to show them different.
Boss Yourself.
