Fukushima Residents to Officials: Test This Urine!

Incredible video of a meeting in Fukushima last week where desperate residents ask if they have the right to live in a safe, non-radioactive place and stone-faced officials sit in silence - and then literally run away as people plead with them to test their children's urine. Shrieks one woman, "They are awful!"

Show AllThis is how the US will respond or probably worse if one of our reactors goes off.
We are fighting Entergy in Vermont to close the Yankee plant that is rotting and leaking and managed by (according to our Attorney General) the Keystone Kops.We are told our health has no standing in arguing against the plant. When did we give up our rights to health? I don't remember this vote. When did we decide that the profits of the energy industry were more important than people's lives. If the government is meant to be primarily about security, what justifies their existence when they work only for those who radiate, poison and pollute its citizens. Why aren't we screaming bloody murder?
Because that is what is being done to the people of the planet by these nuclear and other energy criminals.
"When did we decide that the profits of the energy industry were more important than people's lives."
That's decided by a majority vote of U.S. citizens every four years (it comes in two flavors).
JM,
You presume that any of our votes for national office count. Corporations count the ballots with propriatary software. They are only going to select corporatists and capitalists to represent them. Don't believe for a minute that your vote counts. [That's why Obama completely ignores his base - he doesn't need their votes.]
I think it is not necessary to join the various conspiracy ideas. There is no need to manipulate any voting system ... if the all people listed on the ballot will more or less adhere to the same rules ...
Remember that Obama guy? What exactly did he do for the progressive agenda? And most progressive knew that in advance ... still, he seemed like the better option ...
Why should any corporation into manipulating voting systems ... what would be illegal and give you a bad reputation when you are caught ... when it is perfectly legal to brib err donate to all the available politicians?
John...bingo. You hit the nail squarely. And here we go again.
I would echo your comments, artemix, but add that US officials are silent. When was the last we heard an update by the "liberal media" about the spread, infiltration and effects of the Fukushima disaster?
With nuclear power plants there is no "one of our" or their reactors. Nuclear poison does not respect political or even geographical borders. We (the whole planet) are still "toast" and we are getting crisp.
I saw this video several days ago. Can't say I'm shocked by the indifference and lies of the government bureaucrats to the desperate pleas of the people. I fully expect to see the same thing played out here at Fort Calhoun, which like Fukushima, is strangely out of the news despite being flooded. Or Los Alamos, with the record fires on thousands of acres that have been used as nuclear waste dumping grounds for the last 50 years. Or the Pacific Northwest, which is picking up heaving contamination from the jetstream, courtesy of Fukushima.
Great website to keep abreast of all the nuclear clusterfucks around the world.

Video leaves me speechless.
This is to weep.
The courteous persistence of the people who met with these officials I find deeply moving, and what a contrast with the automatons who could not speak with them as people speak with other people.
A powerful piece of reportage. Please keep them coming!
Someone in the audience commented that that even the communists evacuated people from Chernobyl. That situation was different. In the Soviet Union, money wasn't the only factor that decisions were based on. Japan is modeled after the US, where the value of human lives is measured by dollars, with some lives having enormous value and some worth nothing. Apparently, the people living in Fukushima just aren't worth the cost. Thank god those dirty commies didn't take away our freedom.
And to think that shame on the part of a high official in Japanese culture at one time led to seppuku. Japanese officials seem to have lost their sense of shame. They have become like us. More's the pity. Both for them and for us.
Why is America ignoring this story? Do my friends think that this cannot happen here? How unwise and dangerous…..what a world we live in.
Because we have 106 nuclear reactors across the US - and Global Warming
whereby the melting of the glaciers is creating earthquakes -- increasing
in number and intensity --
and because we have a nuclear reactor industry here which bought Obama and
he's been planning on giving us a new generation of nuclear reactors!!
BP "spill" and oil drilling in the Gulf isn't enough of an environmental disaster -- !!
It's not in their job description. I wonder what is?
This one story, this near dying experience of these people, the lack of care from the Imperial Army of the world consisting of all the leaders and their whor-po-rats, has become the signal story for where the entire world is headed. This story is how global weather situations will be dealt with, how the more wars for profit will kill more citizens, what the industrial wasteland of chemical warfare against us Mundanes will disease the planet and worse....
I know this to be fact because I witnessed the inaudible run for the hills when a town was given proof of the disclosure of 'disease by a corporation' in their midst. Why do you think they are doing all this anti-EPA stuff? Why are they doing all the corporate no-fault on whatever they do crap? Why aren't we getting what we've voted for or paid for?
We have lost the battle people. We have lost our own way out of the garbage heap. We aren't any different than slumdog crawling around in the garbage. We lost. We lost.
Unless you and you and you, can get in the streets world wide, like Eygpt...we have lost it all. America is dead. All the hopes and dreams of this planet are dead but for a handful of blind and deaf morons who think their shit don't stink.
If you are tired of the stench, then get into the goddamn streets and say so. If you're still just worried about losing your job or failing a class or missing an episode of Bigbrother...then you're as lost as the rest of em.
Streets...streets...walk out the door and get in the streets, everywhere.
I live there, I'm here. Come join us.
The response from the officials is more than an outrage. It is criminal. However, their response does not surprise me. They reacted just as their higher ups told them to, like robots. What impresses me are the people from Fukushima. In Japanese society, what they did took an awful lot of courage. Their actions give me a little bit of hope. I hope that they all can evacuate from Fukushima with their children. I hope that they have the courage to leave on their own even though this must be incredibly difficult for them. Does anyone know of any organizations in Japan helping people outside of the exclusion zone that have very high levels of radiation to leave?
That video was something - especially the last minute or two - I loved how it ended when the man asked "You don't have children?" Heart wrenching.
Nuclear power is dangerous in the hands of any government. But particularly a capitalist one. The Fukushima crisis has really blown the lid off of and exposed the total corruption and moral bankruptcy of the Japanese government and it's support of corporate nuclear industry. To the point of destroying their own people's and lands. Yes, capitalism--a planetary destructive economic system.
In the US, the government would have thugs present at such a meeting, and people shouting at the officials would be pushed to the ground, tasered, have their arms strapped behind them, then jailed and charged with terrorism. The man who blocked the elevator buttons would get 20 to 40 years in jail for assaulting a government officers in the line of duty. In the US now, hindering an official is defined as assault. This is our future. Sadly, we have voted for it over and over and over. Americans have to stop voting for DemPublicans. Do not vote for any politicians who advertizes on TV. That is proof that they are corrupt and have been taking money from corporations. Vote only for 3rd parties. But do vote. We have to some how show DemPublicans that we want our rights, our freedoms, our democracy, our government back.
