Making Mischief With Food Not Bombs

Food Not Bombs, which serves free healthy meals to homeless people in about 1,000 cities, is fighting a legal battle in Orlando, Fla., where a judge ruled the city can restrict food giveaways downtown. He noted there's an area where such controversial actions are allowed. Small problem: It's shut down. More here on Food and their spring events, including upcoming days of action and a Change We Knead Now: Bake Goods Not Bank Bailouts Tour.

Show AllWhat a great country.
Homeless problem? Just starve them to death.
Just make sure they are invisible while they are dying and not disrupting commerce.
Start a few vegetable plants on your windowsill or in some dirt around where you live, even if in the city. If you start small and read about organic gardening (your library will have excellent books on the topic) you can then get a feel for what growing your own food is like - it feel great!
Then you can join a community garden with your own little plot where you put up some bottomless wooden boxes (also called raised beds), put some good soil in them - make sure you read the label because it might be sewer sludge - called biosolids - then plant some seeds and start gardening.
Not only are prices rising quickly because the cost of transporting food thousands of miles has gone way up, but also awful weather events like last week's tornadoes in the American South have destroyed crops and cropland so that availability will become less abundant, too.
It's also good exercise; give up that membership where you pay people to let you jump and down. Wear a hat and sunglasses and cotton garden gloves and get growing.
No pesticides or fertilizers needed, only some organic supplements if your soil is poor........but perhaps not. Plant, water, weed, harvest.
Really, People, this is no longer a "hippie" thing; it's becoming a necessity as it was, so it will be, world without end, amen.
Lest people get the wrong idea, Florida is hardly unique. I live in San Francisco and served people food with Food Not Bombs. The police hassled us, and some FNB members were arrested. This is the home of "liberal" Nancy Pelosi, remember. Many people sell food without licenses in SF. Our crime was to give away food in front of City Hall.
For the US, giving away food to hungry people is a crime, while bombing and killing children in Afghanistan isn't.
Yep I was arrested with FNB in San Francisco in the early 90s.
There is no separation at all between the three nodes of government.
Wow, those city officials must feel very proud of themselves.
Nothing says freedom like arresting those who try to feed the hungry.
Jesus, I saw this coming and I still can't believe it.
Corporations will make sure we are dependent on them and them alone for everything we need. I expect to live to see back yard gardens outlawed---in the interest of food safety of course.
Mustn't embarrass, upset or make the touristos feel uncomforable. Happy people spend money.
This nation is crazy.
Look at that smug pig frog-marching that "feed the hungry" activist away - "the all American bullet-headed Saxon mother's son." He probably goes to some fundamentalist church where they practice the "prosperity Christianity" heresy and keeps illegal AK-47s and 7.62 mm rounds in a trap-door under his bed in case of an invasion of the U.S. by Hispanic commies (like a member of the ATF I met in 1996 did).
I hope you Americans out there reading this have noticed how overwhelmingly clogged with goober right-wing fascists our judgeships have become in this country. Many of them get excellent legal educations only so they can use that knowledge to subvert their excellent legal educations and a century of progressive precedents. They're doing very well at it. The only source I found who gave an honest description of the REAL consequences of the recent Supreme Court corporatist ruling re: forced arbitration was a public affairs bulletin emailed to me by Public Citizen. ALL the corporatist press including the PBS News Hour soft soaped this treachery.
It's time to organize and rise up, people
