In issue 901 I predict that Superman will kiss and make up. I went to the above site and looked at the comments. Even made a snarky one, and was promptly banned from making any more comments.
This was a publicity stunt.
I suppose they hope to sell a lot of the 901s with the rah rah amurika rhetoric that you usually find at any political rally these days.

"Renuncation of citizenship was free until July, 2010.
The Department of State commissioned an independent study of the costs associated with various consular services performed at U.S. diplomatic posts, e.g. passport issuance and renewal, notarizations, etc. The study was conducted from August, 2007 to June, 2009.
Based on the results of this cost of service study, State developed a schedule of new and increased fees for these services. The proposal was published officially in the Federal Register on February 9, 2010. After a period for public comments, the fee schedule became effective beginning July 13, 2010.
In addition to increasing existing fees, two new fees were established for services which previously had been free: $82 to add additional visa pages to a U.S. passport, and $450 for 'documentation of formal renunciation of U.S. citizenship.'"

Who would Superman torture? Who would Superman assassinate? How many innocent people would Superman blow up? Who would Superman imprison indefinitely without charge, trial, or other judicial process? Who would Superman steal from and lie about it to? What earth would Superman pollute and destroy?
It isn't Superman who has renounced the USA, but the USA (now run by Lex Luther) who has renounced Superman, and all he represented -- truth, justice, and the 'American way'. A real life super-intelligent being would have rejected this rogue, fascist empire long ago. (I await to see an issue where Superman meets Jesus, and Jesus asks "What took you so long?").
This is not a very strong statement, given the explanation given, but let's hope it is a first step in cultural icons, and will wake a few people up and get them thinking.

yes, all joking aside, and acknowledging an affinity for the character...
this strikes me as a pretty strong statement, considering what I see as the general trend...
if this is genuine, one wonders where the storyline will go...the future is not set...
the planet is a place of pressures, and releases...
I approve of Superman's decision...he is, after all, of another world, and owes no allegiance to any Earthly legality, or geographic region or people...
kind of like I feel about my own incarnated entity...
I'm just a guy who showed up here, and thinks most of it is going very badly, and should be stopped, and that, in the meantime, the women are, in general, gorgeous and sexy, and the music, and the marijuana, and the living world are exquisite, and necessary...
I know some will argue we get what we choose when we incarnate...I do not claim to know...
I only know, when I am alone with myself, I find my allegiances lie, primarily, with those who credit my efforts, and do not criticize or judge my personal choices or qualities, but encourage my best...
these things, in another, are not bound by race or region or sex or age...they, we, each of us, are as far from these artificial allegiances, though we inhabit the same house, or city, or country, or planet, as Superman, an alien, is...being from another world, and all...
this is why Superman is global, and should denounce US citizenship, and stand alone, above...because the incarnated human soul's experience is global, and alone, and above...may be universal, who knows?
where do any of us come from?
why not Krypton?

I became a US citizen in 1987, you know , when the constitution was still law of the land.
With the Patriot Acts in place, warrant less surveillance rampant and out of control, free speech gets you on a watch list- right or left, fusion centers using law enforcement and military for setting up community watch see something say something stalking spy networks,
I only have one thing to say, I am not a citizen of the Unites Stazi of America,
and I dont know what the hell the United States of America stands for, except global imperial domination , torture, war, and unconstitutional actions by
DC( district of criminals), who are working to create a fascist control network of corporations controlling everything.
The corporations, banks, and wall street now run the USA, and is our government.
Superman would not waste his time helping the United Stasi of America.

Superman has tried to exercise free-will and is obviously a terrorist and needs to be extraordinarily rendered to GITMO for an attitude adjustment. First since he dared to defy Homeland Insecurity by tearing up his GPS tracking passport and NSA tagged clothing, he must be put on the no-fly list and watched by Blackwater goons and Christian watch groups since they are now sure, all of a sudden, that he is a child molester since he can see their bits and pieces with his x-ray vision.
Cross the empire, and it's the water-board for you and your neighbors. Just ask Harry Tuttle of the movie Brazil:

Or,
You can resolve to be a free man as the Articles of Confederation originally conferred on Americans under a weak central government. This means breaking up everything big like the stranglehold the British East India Company had on every Colonist. Let's strip all millionaires of their ill gotten gains and dissolve all corps over ten million in assets and sit back and watch a golden age unfold.
Hey, it could happen. We outnumber the elite 100 to one. One generation can do what another generation has done.

Can you read my mind?
Do you know what it is you do to me?
Don't know who you are,
Just a friend from another star
Here I am like a kid at a school
Holding hands with a god, I'm a fool
Will you look at me quivering
Like a little girl shivering?
You can see right through me
Can you read my mind?
Can you picture the things I'm thinking of?
Wondering why you are
All the wonderful things you are
You can fly, you belong to the sky
You and I could belong to each other
If you need a friend,
I'm the one to fly to
If you need to be loved, (to be loved)
Here I am, read my mind!
INSTRUMENTAL BRIDGE
Will you look at me quivering
Like a little girl shivering?
You can see right through me
If you need a friend,
I'm the one to fly to
If you need to be loved,
Here I am, read my mind!
Read my mind!
