In issue 901 I predict that Superman will kiss and make up. I went to the above site and looked at the comments. Even made a snarky one, and was promptly banned from making any more comments.
This was a publicity stunt.
I suppose they hope to sell a lot of the 901s with the rah rah amurika rhetoric that you usually find at any political rally these days.
What most people don't realize you have to buy your way out of US citizenship. It costs 15 percent of everything you own.
What!?!?!?! Yer kidding right? I know a few people who've given up their US citizenship and I've never heard that. Could you point to a source that confirms that statement, please?

"Renuncation of citizenship was free until July, 2010.
The Department of State commissioned an independent study of the costs associated with various consular services performed at U.S. diplomatic posts, e.g. passport issuance and renewal, notarizations, etc. The study was conducted from August, 2007 to June, 2009.
Based on the results of this cost of service study, State developed a schedule of new and increased fees for these services. The proposal was published officially in the Federal Register on February 9, 2010. After a period for public comments, the fee schedule became effective beginning July 13, 2010.
In addition to increasing existing fees, two new fees were established for services which previously had been free: $82 to add additional visa pages to a U.S. passport, and $450 for 'documentation of formal renunciation of U.S. citizenship.'"

Who would Superman torture? Who would Superman assassinate? How many innocent people would Superman blow up? Who would Superman imprison indefinitely without charge, trial, or other judicial process? Who would Superman steal from and lie about it to? What earth would Superman pollute and destroy?
It isn't Superman who has renounced the USA, but the USA (now run by Lex Luther) who has renounced Superman, and all he represented -- truth, justice, and the 'American way'. A real life super-intelligent being would have rejected this rogue, fascist empire long ago. (I await to see an issue where Superman meets Jesus, and Jesus asks "What took you so long?").
This is not a very strong statement, given the explanation given, but let's hope it is a first step in cultural icons, and will wake a few people up and get them thinking.

this strikes me as a pretty strong statement, considering what I see as the general trend...
if this is genuine, one wonders where the storyline will go...the future is not set...

I approve of Superman's decision...he is, after all, of another world, and owes no allegiance to any Earthly legality, or geographic region or people...
kind of like I feel about my own incarnated entity...
