A new (real) Gallup poll finds that only 43% of Americans believe Donald Trump was definitely born in the U.S. Other planets were not mentioned as options. "Sillliness" is understatement here. More here on bowing to bullies.
I don't think it is about bowing to bullies, as the fawning obama fan wrote. I think he is campaigning for 2012, even more rigorously than he has been doing since 2009. He is worried that the birth certificate will be front and center issue for the american cult of idiocy. He won't say that the populace is stupid, because he needs their votes.

But he would be right if he did.

I personally hate Obama for being the liar and traitor to the non-elite that he is. Still, what I hate as much or more is the unwillingness of Obama or the media to call out the Birther movement for what it really is: code-worded racism laced with paranoia that is being exploited by the most extreme of the Repubs and right-wing rich thru the use of nutty, ignorant members of the non-elite that are too dense and/or crazy to see how they're just vehicles to provide a sideshow while the corporate duopoly rapes them and the rest of us.
But, like the two of you say, it all makes sense when you see the Birther movement, or even the Tea Party itself, as just a sideshow distraction to how the two corporate parties tear apart the economy and any illusion of democracy. Obama gains nothing by calling the Birther movement racist and neither would the media since it might bring outrage on the movement and stop the distractions. The media, Obama, and the two parties are all in it together against us, as almost all of us on CD have known for a long time now.
But if Obama had any respect for himself as a man, he would call out the racism. Guess he sold that out too when he took the job as the elite's top house servant.

I am convinced that the duopoly has made a surreptitious agreement to rig the election to be certain that Barry is re-elected. After all, Barry is the best president the Republicans ever had.

I agree. Why would those who pull the strings behind the scenes not want to keep Obama? What has he ever done to disappoint them?

Agreed. The only reason I can figure that Republicans hate him is their racism. Other than that - he's one of them.

It must be very odd to be one of the people that gives a crap about the "born in the U.S." issue!
Now that the Empire is so large, why NOT and Imperator from the provinces? Hadrian was from Spain and he did alright. ;)
Seriously, how folks can wade through all of the horrible crap plus Orwellian doublespeak and mind games that the D.C. Folks and the Corporate Media throw at us daily and come out with a focus on the "question" of Obama's birthplace is beyond me.
I can imagine the kids laying dying in Pakistan or Afghanistan or wherever after a drone attack saying to each other as Life ebbs away: "And to think the man responsible for killing us wasn't really born in Hawaii, he was born in Kenya, thus violating Article II Section 1 Clause 5 of the U.S. Constitution!"

Trump's companies went bankrupt at least twice stiffing his creditors (I mean restructuring his debt), and still he emerged personally richer than ever. What a perfect candidate he would be. Ugly, vulgar and a personification of our casino finance economy.

Exactly! Well-stated, jclientelle. I am guessing his campaign is being financed by the Hair Club for Men.

In a new poll, 73% of Americans don't believe that Donald Trump is a millionaire. He should show us the money. Maybe even pay a few dollars of taxes with it, rather than hiding it all offshore in the Caymans or Switzerland.

I don't know why people bother.
I mean really....this completely arrogant selfish man simply typifies what has beset the USA and the rest of the world, the culmination of utter greed, selfishness, and is devoid of any empathy.
In short, he's the perfect creature to 'appoint' to be el Presidente, a merely symbolic position which in reality is just a corporate spokesman, and so what better spokesman than what typifies corporate interests, a fart-in-a-bottle with a megalomaniac complex.
It's clearly apparent there's a dire progression happening in the USA when anyone actually considers Trump as el Presidente but then again most people are in denial, wallowing in delusion and distractions.
Face it, nothing's going to be fixed in the manner which you imagine least of all by the very same processes and societal evolutions that have brought the USA and the world to where it is right now.
Everything's crashing, or grinding to a halt, like a mad machine with parts flying of of it until it can no longer whir and clank and whine until it sputters to a dying halt with a piercing screech that many won't hear because they've either gone already deaf or are ignoring it.
Afterwards, when worldwide society has evolved, I doubt people will look back on this era with anything but amazement and contempt for how ridiculous people supported all the very systems, institutions and methodologies that they railed against and kept them servile but refused to move on because they were so very frightened of any change or wilfully ignorant hoping it would all go away or get better.
In the meantime the circus acts will get more absurd, the false-hopes will be promulgated as being what you really need to invest your time & energies on rather than simply ignoring it all and letting it all die a natural death.
Don't forget to vote. You know it counts for something.
And without your vote there'll be no real change for the better.
America needs a strong executive in these times of need.
We're playing the Trump card.
Look out world, we're coming back bigger and better.
Become a shareholder in America and get a free box of votes.

Obama has simply bowed to the basic stupidity of the American people and realized that racism is in vogue again and people are not afraid to openly embrace it as Trump has done with great success.

In 1980 the song "Looking for love in all the wrong places" was a big hit.
Later that year, america elected Ronald Reagan.
Thirty one years later, both are still much beloved.
We can thus add a failed sense of irony to the mounting american deficit.

I think Donald preformed a valuable service, now if the gays folks would make a formal announcement that they no longer wish to be married and women promised to no longer need abortions the Republicans wouldn't have anything to base their up coming campaigns on.
