Goldman Sachs in Japan: Don't Worry, Be Happy

With radiation levels in Japan soaring, the enlightened executives at Goldman Sachs have made their priorities clear to employees inexplicably worried about nuclear plants exploding around them. Stay put, they say, or it will look bad for business. Meanwhile, Sachs analysts have cut growth forecasts for Japan and see "limited near-term upside from current market levels" for copper and other metals. What planet do these people inhabit, and can we move it further away from Earth?

Show AllJust like when the plane slammed into the first trade center on 9/11, workers in the other tower were told to stay at their desks and keep working. I wonder if how that worked out for those workers has been forgotten by the employees that are now being told by GS not to move in Japan?
Great comparison NCT.
Most Americans who I have talked (to since the meltdown started on March 11) are far more concerned about the news from Japan stifling the expansion of US nuclear power than they are about any of the health, environmental or economic effects of the meltdown.
Americans have been thoroughly brainwashed by the likes of GS to believe the lights will go out without new nuclear plants being constructed in the US.
Speaking of comparisons with 9/11: Just as a groundswell of protest was forming around the issue of globalization (remember Seattle in 1999), the 9/11 terrorist attacks happened, and those concerns and protests were driven off the media radar for good. Similarly, just as a groundswell of protests in the U.S. against an assault on public workers bargaining rights start to take shape, a massive earthquake and tsunami in Japan blows these off the news media map as well. Coincidence? Well, I guess so...
The people in and around this disaster deserve our highest regards. I wouldn't blame anyone for running for the hills either. To be crass towards those on the front lines of this disaster is immoral, at the very least. Maybe all those suits could be pressed with some Steam of Japan? Oh, here, lets do a touch up on that tie while we're at it.
Who are Goldman Sachs?
They are psychopathic killers part of a capitalistic corporate death cult that believes nothing should stand in the way of their anti-human concept called profit.
"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs."
—Thomas Jefferson, 1802
This is a good quote from TJ about the banks and corporations.
Regarding the conquering of the continent, at some point the US should revisit and atone for past misguided actions and make reparations. Personally I would rather have Native American councils ruling than what we have.
Too bad that the very banks Jefferson warned us about own the Democratic Party and the Republican Party.
slight correction- Too bad that the very banks Jefferson warned us about own the Democratic / Republican Party.
There's only ONE team running this show.
..
Actually the Thomas Jefferson quote is not authentic, although he did express disdain and mistrust of banking institutions ( http://www.snopes.com/quotes/jefferson/banks.asp )
Reminds me of their mandatory dress code..... I bet if the execs doing 'gods work' (the japanese people surely could use some of that now) had to stay there they would change their mind.

There is an out-migration from Tokyo. There are now nuclear refugees trying to find some safer place to be.
The name Goldman is very appropriate. As the saying goes: America lives by the golden rule: THE MAN WITH THE GOLD MAKES THE RULES !
The gold sacks.
Stop blaming the victims.
Start jailing the banksters.
LIKE! >^^<
Like all leaches, Goldman Sucks.
May those that impose upon others that which they do not desire for themselves receive that which they have imposed. - The law of the earth...that which goes around, comes around. You cannot hide from it.

Change and saving our way of life could have been done long ago if mankind had a conscience instead of worshipping the almight dollar.
But "saving our way of life", if by that you mean the western model, IS predicated on "worshipping the almight[y] dollar".
praying for Japan
Could we see an entire island ringed with chain link fence, topped with razor wire in the not too distant future?
Wouldn't surprise me if there were at this moment, Wall Street speculators penciling-in all the details for making a bid for the contract. :)
Yes, Manhattan Island Federal Prison! just leave the current occupants in place.

The "don't worry be happy" line is the mantra of the corporate world echoed in the work place. Be cheerful why we corporations make war on you. Accept this, die. Oh yeah?? Fuck you. Time folks know their militant LABOR history and rise up!
They should be happy to have a job! lol
>^^<
The revolution has begun and nice words will not be heard...Mr Goldamn Sacks et al bring extra underwear for folks are rising everywhere...
Time to stop the psychopaths. They are not able to manage anything due to their debilitating addictions.
bunch of wusses running from a little radiation
stand up and be a man
a goldman sachs man
The more I read about Goldman Sachs, the more I think that when Mr. Taibbi described them as Vampire Squid he was putting a happy face on something that is far worse.
Goldman (inc.) über alles.
The US Military somehow didn't get the Goldman Sachs message. Seattle is gearing up for the influx of about 200,000 (not a typo) US military personnel from WESTERN Japan. You read that right. WESTERN Japan.

Here is a web site from Yorayasu (Tokyo area). It shows the level in microsieverts of ambient radiation. When I started checking it out about a week ago, it was between 0.160 and 0.202 microsieverts. That's a little above normal. Yesterday it began spiking up to 0.340 microsieverts. This is still not overtly dangerous but the trend is definitely not your friend here. The increase is not going to go away. IT will get worse. I think the Japanese are not being fooled brcause there are hundreds of websites springing up to monitor the radiation. The government can't keep a lid on this.

And meanwhile, here in the USA, New Hampshire's radiation is going up.
Check this out:

They use CPM (counts per minute). Anything under 100 cpm is considered safe (this excludes injesting radioactive isotope particles - then all bets are off regardless of ambient radiation levels). Colorado is always around 45 because it is high and has lots of natural background radiation. New Hampshire just spiked to 62 from a usal reading of about 20. I'm in Vermont so I guess the cancer clock has started ticking here. I urge all you people out there to think of your children. I-131 is horrible, even in small quantities to children because their thyroid glands are growing and accumulate Iodine much faster than adults. Hepa face filters may be in order for children especially. I hope American traditions of not wearing face maskes like the Japanese don't result in cancer for American children. I hope that the scoffers on Fox telling you it is UNAMERICAN and UNPATRIOTIC to wear a face mask or filter are ignored. And if homeland securty tries to tell you you are a terrorist sympathizer because your kids are wearing "burka-like" head gear, then it's definitely time for regime change here. All bullshit PR attempts by our corporate owned government should be ignored.
Better to be safe than sorry.
Cancer is patriotic!

Goldman-Sacks world economy.....
It will make you sterile. Zero population growth. Yay!
A famous airhead said that those exposed to radiation would need never worry about getting cancer. How do people know what to believe with these pea sized brains spreading disinformation?
They come from Planet Hell. When shall we send them there? Why have we waited so long? What day shall we begin the purge? TODAY would be a good start....
They should change their name from Goldman Sachs, to sacks full of gold! That would be more appropriate. Just like most of the rest of Wall Street, they are nothing but an organized crime syndicate.
