That Hopey-Changey Thing
Sarah Palin's mean-spirited, often-incoherent, $100,000 speech to the Tea Party Nation this weekend has inspired the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee to launch an online contest to remind those who might need reminding, as hard as it is to imagine, how mean-spirited and often-incoherent she is. Tell them what you think she's saying here.
"They're not knowin' what are we gonna do if we don't have Tea Party support." - the ever-eloquent Palin.

Show AllWIth a statement like that it makes me think that Dubya got his-self one of them dare sex change operations...
I read somewhere that Dubya called her an airhead or something similar. So he had enough sense to see her for the joke she is. Then again, maybe he just didn't like anyone butting into his territory and trying to take his title.
Like others here have said, we shouldn't underestimate how far Palin will go, and I don't think we should overestimate the masses out there listening to her.
When she made the comment about Obama and the teleprompter, I visualized her giving her acceptence speech, or the State of the Nation without a teleprompter. That would really be one for the books.
Well it would make for a very short State of the Union speech because there is only so much room on her palms for her to write it on...
How exactly does Palin's and Obama's SHARED inability to memorize a speech, or to rely only on simple notes, become cause for mocking Palin alone?
One of my problems with Obama is that I CAN imagine him making a good speech without a teleprompter, that is why it is so annoying that he uses them.
Watching her read her palm during the teaparty speech, I imagined her bare-armed during the presidential speeches so she could cover her inner arms with her speech.
I've always figured those who ridicule the use of a teleprompter are those who don't know how to use one.
Partiers: Read the tea leaves; talk to the hand.
That some oligarchs would push Palin as a presidential candidate demonstrates that they intend to turn the government and the job of high government official into a total joke and the object of ridicule. This would make sense if the next planned step is the implementation of overt and open total corporate control of the economy and society. They are tired of operating behind the scenes and want the control to be totally out in the open and absolute.
They did it in 1980 with Ronald. Sarah is not as good an actor, but she is dumb enough and unprincipled enough to take whatever script they hand her. Her only weakness (as far as her supporters are concerned) is that she can't always remember her lines. Remember, Ronnie won overwhelmingly--and the rest of us lost greatly.
But Ronnie was a competent actor -- a "B-movie actor" yes, and far from the best, but a professional who actually made a good living at it, so he could pull off the puppet role in a way that fooled most people, though obviously not the politically aware. Palin cannot do anything well. She appears to be below average (below the average for a common US citizen!) at just about everything she tries. She would make the position of president a joke that would be obvious to the great majority of people in the US and around the world. I can see corporate leaders publicly and clearly telling her what to think and what policies to follow and her submissively following their lead without missing a beat (something like: "The head of Goldman Sachs said we should do this and he is a really smart man so that will be our policy. What do I know compared to him? Ha, ha, ha!"). As she made it obvious that the president was not a leader in any way, shape, or form, political activism would be discouraged even further, and political interest would decline even more, which would be according to plan.
"As she made it obvious that the president was not a leader in any way, shape, or form, political activism would be discouraged even further, and political interest would decline even more, which would be according to plan."
I'm not so sure. Maybe a Palin presidency is just what it would take to awaken the apathetic masses. Maybe a Palin presidency would bring on more political interest action, not less. Regardless, things are going to get worse before they get even worse.
The scenario you have laid out sounds so plausible that a small part of me (the conspiranoid part) is tempted to believe it is Truth-as-Disinformation. ;)
Palin would be Bush II, even dumber, if that is possible. As with Bush, the entire world would suffer horribly.
Palin is not a Bush...did I just say that?
Palin is Obama's (Wall Street's) insurance on getting reelected. A Palin candidacy is about the only thing that could motivate people to vote for Obama.
Exactly. And that is why the repugs would never allow her to be the nominee. Not a frickin' chance. Obama is handing them the election and only the Dems could find a way to blow a gift like that.

Yep.
Joe
Does it really matter who captains the Titanic as it nears the bottom??
right, and let's take a tip from those latte stands, and have President Palin serve up her smile and her 'leading' in a regular morning broadcast wearing a bikini, or a teddy, or topless...
kind of an Oval Office 'braless bonus' for job-hunting, homeless citizens...
tit for tat...
@dubet - "and have President Palin serve up her smile and her 'leading' in a regular morning broadcast wearing a bikini, or a teddy, or topless..."
Thank you for that last image.
I'm sending you my therapist's bill.
Hear, Hear! RichM. I've always had more respect for those who don't pretend to care than for those who do.

In that vein to echo another comment on this thread I have six words for the Democrats:
Gore-Lieberman, Kerry-Edwards, Obama-Biden
At least Republicans fight for that in which their warped little minds believe--Democrats might learn some things from the TeaPartyers, Dumbya, and Sarah Stupid Palin if they were interested in learning.
Poet
I totally agree, RichM! I think i will post on this article myself!
It's very tempting to be smug regarding Palin, and I've been in the camp rooting for her to run, so as to implode the Republican party. But we should remember that people felt similarly about Ronald Reagan, too. He was a simplistic script reader, a b-movie actor who was not seen as capable of getting elected, then the unthinkable happened.
Maybe she needs to pass out more Viagra to "maintain" that facade. Men can't think too awful good when their blood flow changes direction.
I also "felt similarly about" George W. Bush, "then the unthinkable happened".
Sara Palin is a demagogue reminiscent of Huey Long and Father Coughlin. Those who paid over $500 to listen to her were mainly rich, white birther people.
I can't imagine how she could be any worse than the ObamaNation we now have and would at least be more amusing.
Why is it that this imbecile consistently gets so much press?
It's like a gory highway accident. You know the horror you are seeing but you just can't look away.
She is also entertaining both to her fans and to those who see her as a clown.
She is a metaphor for how far the country has fallen. Even academics are fascinated.
she's HOT!
Used to be. Her looks are fading; she won't look better in 2012.
Fellow progressives: Yes Sarah is all the pejoratives you claim her to be, but having said that, do not sell this lady short as she is the darling of silent majority sheeple and would be a puppet for the MIC. I would hope I am wrong: but right now, from my perspective, I would say she is the favorite in 2012. I think too many progressives are underestimating her because she is sooooo politically stupid, but having said that arn't most of the American people? The pistol packin mama from Alaska has five things that, I would argue, make her a formidable candidate in 2012: 1. Whether you like her politics or not she does have charisma. 2. She has the big $ of the corrupt elite behind her. 3. The MIC loves her. 4. She appeals to the folksy and the gun crowd, that she is one of them 5. And most of all, the whore media loves her. So I say again do not underestimate Sarah in 2012.
Aye, that, Paulie ...
For those who think the USAn public can't possibly fall for this act, I have three words:
W - eight years.
Paul Revere: I agree -- she should NOT be underestimated!
I still remember Governor Ann Richards warning Democrats to NOT underestimate George W. Bush.
To be more precise, we shouldn't underestimate her handlers skill in getting her elected. I'm sure she, just like W and Reagan, will just come along for the ride while the real ones work the system behind the scenes.
Welcome to Idiocracy, the new state of the US. No, really! I used to think the movie was just a bit fun, but it's reality.
Narrator: "The years passed, mankind became stupider at a frightening rate. Some had high hopes the genetic engineering would correct this trend in evolution, but sadly the greatest minds and resources where focused on conquering hair loss and prolonging erections."
Excellent sarcasm, even including the required grain of truth: Why hair loss and erections? Because the real world is about sex...
The world of money is the fake world, and that world is dying, thanks for that...
The world of sex is waiting, and may be the only thing that can rival money for adherents...we'll throw in music and marijuana for free...
Fox Television (News Corp)
Why mess with campaign contributions and election laws when you can avoid it by just providing her and other potential republican candidates with free television exposure and pay on top of it? Another problem of media consolidation the its oligopoly.
She's referring to the Republican leadership: 'the Republican leadership dooesn't know what to do without the support of the Teabaggers.'
thanks bgcd, that was my interpretation also.
It's OK girl, "they" can do what they did in Florida in 2000, and decide not to count all the votes. See? Simple.
Now don't you go tryin to violate the pristine naturalness of that uncultured mind of yours. Blather me another one girl, I'm ready.
Let her win the nomination so Obama can get a second term easy.
What evidence do we have that a second term for Obama would be a good thing for the country?
We're only a little over a quarter of the way through this term of his, and so far, to say "he ain't doing so good" would be quite an understatement!
Sarah Palin won't scare me into voting for Obama (or any Dem, for any office).
Not even if her Vice-Prez pick is Lucifer Morningstar!
Dems and everybody else who refuses to break the Duopoly -and therefore break the power of the Corporacrats- can bear the brunt of the blame when the People finally wake up and discover that they have lost their Republic. I don't need any of that on my back, thank you very much.
Besides, isn't that Prez Elction something like 996 days away? And isn't there an Election Day this year in which the make up of the Congress and many State Legislatures will be -in majority- decided?
So what are we doing distracting ourselves with thoughts of Sarah Palin and 2012 when there's so much to be done in the here-and-now?
-matti.
I personally don't think she's interested in being President. Too much heavy lifting.
But she'll make you think she's a candidate so that the $100K speaking gigs will continue, the Fox pundit job will continue, and she'll rake in some big bucks to pad the bank account.
And then if the polls look good in a couple of years, she may get seduced into changing her mind. If she wins a few primaries, she'll begin to believe her own press clippings and think she's actually up for the job.
At that point, we all better hope the smoke-filled rooms come up with a helluva good VP candidate. Because she might just win, and a year or two into the first term, she'll cut and run.
I'm not sure I follow your logic.
Palin as president would be bad, but if she "cut(s) and run(s)" before her term is up, that is also bad?
Isn't that like saying "the food here is terrible, and the portions are so small!"
Besides Bush showed, and Obama confirms almost everyday, that a 21st century Prez is not required to do almost any thing at all! Just read the speeches written for you and make reasonably effective TV appearances. The Pundits, Lobbyists, Think-Tankers and all of the other Corporacrats will take care of the rest.
-matti.
It's not that cutting and running is necessarily good or bad, matti. It's simply inevitable.

So come on ya blue blooded Patriots!
Get on the bigot bandwagon,
Get those gas lines and kerosene packs,
And let's go put out this fire!
do not, by any way or means, misunderestimate the stupidity of "we the people".
they elected the great prevaricator twice. the elected the empty suit, bush1, once. they elected the serial liar and dino, clinton, twice. and lastly they elected the imbecility twice (well, once. the supreme court stole the first one but it should not have even been that close).
"we the people" are stupid and prefer, to borrow from charles pierce, the gut. it absolves them of thinking.
"we the people" seem to find a way to get want they want and deserve.
good and hard.
Unfortunately, Sarah is exactly what the democrats want. All of the 'progressives' can make fun of her. This is how far out a politico needs to be in order to make the dems appear ......'liberal'. And. Intelligent.
If Sarah didn't exist, the dems would need to invent her. And they have the audacity to make this little contest so we can all feel like we are on the 'same side' against this mutual enemy.
I think it is so pathetic. As obama is no better than his predecessor. It's all just more of the Circus Maximus to keep us distracted.
