Grand Old Opportunism
Never mind making $223,500 to put his foot in his mouth as
GOP Chairman. The incomparable Michael Steele is also getting $10,000
to $20,000 - close to the poverty line for annual income of a family of
four - to give speeches, says
the Washington Times. Never one to miss an opportunity, Steele flies
first class too. Some Republican leaders say it "just doesn't look
right" to get paid extra to put aforementioned foot in mouth; others
say it's no big deal to have "outside employment," though it sure seems
inside to us.
"This is silly." - RNC spokeswoman Gail Gitcho.
