"Training today to meet the challenges of tomorrow" - well-armed apocalypse, anyone? - Xe Services, aka the former infamous Blackwater, now offers civilians a range of services at the posh U.S. Training Centers where it trains military, law enforcement and ragtag psycho mercenaries. Courses open to the public go from basic pistol and shotgun to tactical pistol, precision rifle, home defense, carbine and armorer. There are also women's defensive handgun courses and custom courses "tailored to your distinct requirements." And, oh yeah, their fancy and aggressively defensive website notes, as to those "misleading press reports" about what they did and didn't do in Iraq: They were never complicit in anything.
Among the testimonials: "Took Tac Pistol I in April and just finished Tac II two weeks ago...By FAR your training and facility is the best. For someone like me, a stupid dentist, being able to go out to dinner with a couple of ST 6 guys and [talk shop] is awesome. Keep up the great job! It makes one feel great to be an American. As a former soldier, gun owner and participant in the Civilian Marksmanship Program it is plain to see these guys (and they're probably cops)weren't trained that well. A bunch of dopey Dentists, corporate middle managers taking a quick course now think they are Navy seals. They are more of a danger to us than you think.

Listen to old Chameleon: Teenage punks breaking into your house at 2AM are easy. Problem is when gov jackbooted thugs are after you. That's when Tac II comes in handy.

It's not really that hard, Z - five pounds of flour makes a very effective bomb, ignited correctly. Which is why it's a potentially fatal idea to try to put out a kitchen-stove fire by throwing flour on it. Use baking soda or salt instead: even as aerosols, they don't burn.
That makes me glad I store my whole grain pancake mix in the freezer.

You do know that Xe/Blackwater founder Eric Prince is a born again Armageddonist Christian who is tight with Tim Lahey, author of the 'Left Behind' series of right wing masturbatory gun fantasy novels?
His offering of mercenary class weapons training to civilians will be sure to be taken by members of the growing right wing militia movement, which has seen a resurgence since the 'election' of Barack Obama.
These are the same gun-toting 'tea-baggers' who have been showing up to events where Obama has been speaking, and have had no intervention by the police or Secret Service.
Remember how tight Blackwater was with the Bush/Cheney crowd. They were able to get war crimes charges in Iraq completely buried.
So training the next Lee Harvey Oswald patsy to do their Corporate dirty work will be nothing.

As sad as it is to admit, the smart civilians are not only acquiring defensive skills, they're also learning survival everything, teaching their kids the same, and maybe squirreling away a few necessities, too...

Not so. That's elite propaganda.
The basic message from the literature (for a readable distillation, see Rebecca Solnit's latest book) is that people self-organise and do *better* without the ruling class and their legbreakers-with-badges. The idea that we'll all go mad and revert to a state of savagery without our 'betters' keeping us in line is self-serving crap. What actually happens is that people start taking care of each other in an egalitarian way, all social pretensions discarded.
The ones who *really* won't last 10 minutes are the psychopaths. When people self-organise after a disaster, everyone is treated equally. Everybody eats, everybody gets a doss, everybody works. And by the same token, anyone who's not satisfied with equality tends to get the chop without much ceremony.

I'm sure Dr. W.P. feels better knowing he can defend himself against any terrorist patients who might want a cavity filled. And, were I his patient, I'd be most reassured by his ability to keep me safe from Islamic fundamentalist dental technicians. Is this a great country, or what!?
