She Who Has Borne the Battle
Sgt. Theresa Lynn Flannery during an attack in April 2004 near Najaf, Iraq
Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) has released a report, "Women Warriors: Supporting She 'Who Has Borne the Battle,'" on the horrific and largely overlooked problems facing women veterans, who make up over 11% of those serving in America's wars. Among the findings: last year's 3,000 reports of sexual assault, widely viewed as a fraction of the true number; divorce rates triple that of male soldiers; inadequate health care; and rising homelessness. The report is the cornerstone of the IAVA's first annual Week of the Woman Warrior. To help go hereComments are closed

Show Allit's a wicked nation that even sends their women into other lands to kill and destroy--if they don't care about the women and children that they kill there, why would they care about their solider-girls?
if you had a brain you would realize that leaders that can't think of ways to edify their people and country, will exploit them in any evil, immoral, and destructive manner they want to and the moral citizens can't do a fucking thing about it--can they? But there will be consequences for their corrupt actions eventually--so states the laws of karma, and many religious beliefs--so just sit back on your fat lazy asses and wait for them to come for you--I hope to be out here watching the avenging spirit go to work--see ya.
you've come a long way (to kill women and children)baby.

How come the guys appear to be having a lunch break in the picture?

Because the "attack" they are speaking of is likely from women and children in the street throwing shoes. Time for an Air Strike!
Maybe she is running from the Gang Rapists in her unit?

is her weapon uncocked?
It is ironic that as women, gay people and people of color gain more equality, they take their places as exploited pawns in a financially and morally bankrupt system. The gains are tainted. They take their places in the least equal sectors. In the military, the soldiers, white males included, are ALL devalued, sent to kill and die for the war profiteers, then left neglected with a lifetime of mental and physical fallout.
Women and others are becoming a bit more "equal" in a country and a world on the decline - all natural systems threatened, the position of the plutocracy strengthened, the dominance of war spreading like a cancer.
Let equality mean that we join together for peace, to clean up the environment and to end poverty by sharing whatever earthly bounties remain. Let equality mean that it is one for all and all for one and that we will not tolerate rape and racism amongst ourselves. Let equality mean that men and women can take care of their children and die happy knowing that their children and grandchildren will carry on in a reasonable world.

Saturday, September 4, 2004:
Outside the Providence, RI airport I saw a small U.S. soldier in desert camo walking away from me, stooped under a huge pack. When the GI walked to the curb and turned to scan the traffic I saw that soldier was an anxious-looking teenaged girl.
She had a teddy bear clutched to her breast.
That image has remained seared into my mind and casts the cold harsh light by which I see and understand all that my nation stands for.
Opportunities for young women who need a job or need to escape from home. Your post tells it all. And this teddy bear toting child has a 30% chance of being raped by her fellow soldiers, even before facing battle. How alone is she? We are a depraved nation.

Clear and well stated Joe.
There is a big difference between testosterone and estrogen.
I cannot bring myself to where I can support the training of young women to be military killers. It is morally wrong for young girls to be killers rather than to do what they are best at, nurturing and comforting.
Yes, there is a difference between women and men and never the twain shall meet.
it is morally wrong for anyone to kill to order.
and to order anyone to kill.
