Surreal Lessons

Surreal Lessons

It's nice to see Al Franken getting comfortable enough in the Senate
to start asserting his rightful, progressive place there. Today, at a
Senate Judiciary Committee hearing
where Justice Dept. officials were arguing for reauthorization of the
particularly sleazy "roving wiretap" provision of the ever-sleazy
Patriot Act, Franken whipped out his copy of the Constitution and read aloud the 4th Amendment in order to
bolster his objections - much to the dismay of Assistant A.G. David
Kris, who, last time we checked, is supposed to know this sort of
thing.

"No Warrants shall issue but upon probable cause, supported by
Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be
searched, and the persons or things to be seized."
