In Gaza, God Goes Surfing With The Devil
"We are the surfers of Gaza," begins the website for the Gaza Surf Club, a group of young Gazans struggling, against all odds and the Israeli blockade, to find some peace in the sea. For now, they can't: the Israelis are holding 20 surfboards donated to them. For background on groups like Surfing for Peace and Gaza Surf Relief, go here. Go here to learn about "God Went Surfing With The Devil", a movie being made about the surfers and their U.S. and Israeli supporters.
"Surfing is like freedom. When I practice my freedom, I feel like I have broken the siege."

Show AllThe sadistic evils that the Israelis do to their fellow man is directly reflected on all Jews.
True to a certain degree.
What doesnt mean that it should be like that. Making conclussions about many people ... based on actions of some individual people is plain stupid.
It is more like the whole community. MOST Israelis support this sadistic treatment of Palestinians.
And on all people who call themselves human.

"when i practice my freedom"....
more beautifully put it could not have been,
when i practice my freedom
when i practice my freedom
when i practice my freedom
Not given, not taken, not fought for, but practiced...
let us cherish, and more importantly, practice our freedoms!
Fantastic comment! Forget about what you are free from. What are you free FOR?
This is just so mean! It out-Herods Herod.
Twenty surfboards are being held by the Israelis? Are they afraid the Palestinians will convert them to aircraft-carriers? Show you're a mensch too and let those surfers have their fun; little gestures sometimes achieve more than political rhetoric. No sane persons wants to think of future generations perpetuating this farce.
these surfers are obviously so much more AUTHENTICALLY 'free' than the wielders of hollow 'power' over access to basic necessities of life.... as if cutting off medical supplies, food, water.... demolishing shelter from the elements and massacres weren't enough....
you can't help but pity such insatiable thieves as the deluded israelis imprisoned in their blind commitment to the rule of violence, piracy and fear. may their consciences wake up to what they are doing and heal what is most broken in the collective human heart.
Here is an example of a complicated situation.
Holding back the surfboards is another of 1000 mean spirited acts in a sea of religious, economic and political injustices by the Israelis toward the Palestinians. This is a very serious fundamental situation which has an impact on safety, health, education, housing, mobility and mental health of the Palestinians and on the security, intellectual and spiritual health of the Israelis. Democracy is impossible.
But notice that there are no women surfers. That reflects another type of mean spiritedness. Perhaps some women want to put on a bathing suit, balance on a board in the surf and spray and practice their freedom.
All of us who wish to have freedom should look at ourselves and make sure we are not hampering women, the poor, different ethnic groups and other traditionally subjugated groups. The freedom you get will reflect the path you took to get it.

Everybody has known people like this. They make sure that anybody they have any power over never forgets who is boss. Every choice involving their 'subordinates' has as its first consideration "Can I use this to rub their faces in their feces, just to let them know who's boss?"
The dominate theories on child rearing in the nineteenth century involved first and always 'breaking the child's will'.
These people are borderline insane. In the last days of WWII winning the war was secondary to 'the final solution to the Jewish problem'.
When Nixon was elected president for the last time, the night he results were in was he at a celebration party? No, he was locked in his office working on his enemies list.
If it's any consolation, they are always more miserable than the people they are persecuting. There is always an element of envy in their sadism.
Too often it perpetuates a cycle; others treat people as they have been treated. OK, you had a tough time in Nazi Germany. How does it help you to treat your ancient cousins similarly?
I wonder how many of these young men are targeted for Israeli organ harvesting?
Remember, it was the Israelis who 'accidentally' blew the living hell out of the USS Liberty, a US spy ship monitoring the area during the Israeli started Six Day War.
It was the Israelis who started the 2006 war with Lebanon over a faked incident to 'rescue' a 'captured' soldier.
And whenever there is a whiff of investigation or condemnation of Israeli policies ANYWHERE in the wider world, a convenient 'terrorist' rocket attack on 'innocent Israelis' takes place (usually with no significant property damage or severe injuries. Almost as if the targets are informed beforehand that an 'attack' is going to take place...hmmm.)
One hopes these young men will escape the fate of other beach-going people--even entire families--in Gaza, but it's a chancy thing given the low value their lives carry in Israeli eyes:

This just shows that the Israelis are cruel and sadistic slave masters. Our country should stop all aid to Israel and concentrate on treating the Palestinians like the human beings they are.
Surfing gives a feeling of freedom, and free men are dangerous. The Zionist fascists who rule Israel cannot have that. They know what they are doing--they have studied fascism carefully. Too bad the Jews didn't learn compassion from their holocaust experience.
