Insure Us Against the "Insurers," Please
A day after experts testified at a hearing that health insurers regularly "dump the sick" to satisfy "Wall Street's relentless profit expectations," a Senate report confirmed the charge, finding that insurers have forced consumers to pay billions in medical bills they should have paid, often by fudging the numbers. Last year, New York AG Andrew Cuomo found the practice allowed insurers to "defraud" consumers by up to 28 percent.
