Why Afghanistan Matters (And Why It's Troubling If They Don't Actually Know the Answer)
Under the unfortunately ungrammatical tagline, "Are you now, or have you ever been to Afghanistan?", NATO is sponsoring a video contest asking military personnel to tell us "Why Afghanistan Matters." Sponsored by Joint Forces Command Headquarters, the contest seeks to "provide a 'boots on the ground' perspective of the military mission" there – excluding elements that "jeopardize troop security, or show objectionable, disturbing or offensive material." Does this mean the military is growing more democratic? Or that they don't know why they're there?

Show AllThis is coming from NATO, not the DoD...I don't really think it means *our* military is becoming more democratic. More like NATO HQ needs some ideas for their PR campaigns to sell it to European citizens.
