I'm Not Making This Up. Really.
In an interview last night on ABC radio with Curtis Sliwa, RNC Chairman Michael Steele was even more astonishingly himself than usual.
On Bobby Jindal: "Some slum love out to my buddy...Gov. Bobby Jindal is doing a friggin' awesome job in his state. He's really turned around on some core principles – like hey, government ought not be corrupt. The good stuff..."
On the stimulus package: "There's a lot of bling bling – the bling bling's got bling bling in this package. That's how bad it is."
On the RNC's hip-hop strategy: "This party has got to take its head out of its you-know-what and recognize that America doesn't look like America in 1952. That America now is something very different, very beautiful – that it has a lot of strips and strains to it. But, it's real and we've got to get in the real."
Who ARE these people?

Show AllPerhaps a drug test is in order? Between Steel and Jindal, I think we might actually miss Sarah Palin (or not).
I saw him on Bill Maher's show a few times, and each time he struck me as a black man who wanted very much to be white.
Regardless, seeing anyone of the Establishment co-opt hip-hop culture makes me wince. Ugh. As if the urban poor will come running to the Republican party in droves.
"Slum love?" My God. Who says THAT? Yeah, the caste system is to be romanticized.
As I wrote in another CD thread: 'Gettin' jiggy with the GOP?' Most people would rather hug a rattlesnake.
To paraphrase Mark Twain, 'Sometimes I wonder whether the GOP is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it.'
I'm leaning toward the latter these days.
That definition applies equally to the other party as well....

I am rapidly coming to the conclusion it applies to every party. I never thought Id see a more disgraceful display of mendacity and deceit than the last 12 years.....but wait, I'm being rewarded by Pelosi, Reid and Congress on a daily basis with all I could want.
Not every party, Thomas, in fact Im having one this weekend....barbecuing ribeyes and tritips for about 30 of the nicest bikers you have ever seen.....its a political opportunity....
But I do think that a third party pledged to avoid corporate influences like the plague is a good place to focus ones energies.

Now thats a party I could vote for. Don't get on one of those two wheeled death traps though.

I posted elsewhere that the one real opportunity I see for a viable Third party is through Political Populism. That could happen if the right leader showed up.
Two wheeled death traps?! Do you have any fun at all? I currently own a 2004 FLHRCI with a stage 1 upgrade and hotter cams installed. Ive made two trips across country on Harley's, one on a rigid frame ( ahh foolish youth). I may be growing old but I aint ready to grow up!
Just gave my '47 Indian Chief to my youngest son.....
As to the growth of third parties ( returning to this world for a moment)do you really see our political scene as needing to be dominated by charismatic leadership or do you envision a possibility wherein the people actually get out in front of the curve?

"do you envision a possibility wherein the people actually get out in front of the curve?"
Thats the one!
"Two wheeled death traps?! Do you have any fun at all?"
Yes....if its got less than two wheels, forget it!!
To the second...79 Triumph TR8 Coupe, 65 MGB, finishing a 59 Bugeye Sprite...ALL have FOUR wheels and are a blast. Especially the 48 HP Sprite. Its a knuckle dragger if you put your arm over the door.
sheesh, the gearheads are taking over.remember, overhead valves are just a passing fad.i'm not goofing.
ricardohead
By golly, I'm changing to underhead valves tomerrow!
Sorry for the gearhead talk, but you know how we are (lol)
I like my valves on the side...like roughage.
All politics makes Jack a dull boy!

Before I came to my senses I had a TR4A, a real blast when the carburation was adjusted correctly and the damn British electronics worked. Always wanted an Austin Healey 100 6....the magnesium bodied one....
Sorry everyone for the digression.....

Sorry everyone for the digression.....
Me too, but how do you have fun if you don't have to fiddle with the electrics and carb syncro? You need to get a British Bike! Used to have Triumph 250 (2 wheel) till I got good sense! We can't afford that Healey together!
My first "two wheeled death trap" was a Norton Commando, aptly called "the Widowmaker"....Found an old Harley in a barn on Long Island and was forever hooked....

Red Rick February 27th, 2009 6:35 pm, you mean you have a '47 Indian and you aren't keeping it shined up in the garage? I hope your son is careful -- that's a classic you don't see much anymore.
I had it for about twenty years, found it near Seattle looking embarrassed and shoddy and paid $1600 for it.I restored it and rode it to both Canada and Mexico in its day....I took it down and boxed it up about three years ago and told the boy ( 39) that the day he put it back together and kicked it over it was his, he did and it is....
At my age I appreciate the creature comforts of the FLH though that Indian will remain one of my favorites....The boy has a Ducati and a Buell already, he shows the Indian only, rides it to Hot August Nights in Reno . Me Im too old and cranky for those crowded celebration thingies.....

Bank of America is laying off 35,000 people? Theres a political opportunity for you!!
I can't wait to hear what Joe the Plumber has to say.Abby's sidebars get me going in the morning when coffee fails, and even James Cotton doing 'Rockett 88'won't do it.
I don't see the Repug "Hip Hopization" fooling anyone. This gut's a fool talking the same delusional stuff. I doubt Jindal will get re-elected in Louisiana.

Jaded Prole February 27th, 2009 9:45 am: "I doubt Jindal will get re-elected in Louisiana."
Jindal was nearly recalled last summer, and he's not that popular down there. He's about to be even less popular when he refuses to take Obama's stimulus money and extend unemployment benefits -- the state's an economic basket case with high unemployment and Jindal seems oblivious to the depths of the suffering. Politically, he's a goner -- the insulated Beltway Punditrocracy just hasn't caught up to that fact yet.
Don't complain, it means the GOP will be even more embarrassed by the results of the next election.
I'd hold off on that prediction. If the Democrats and Obama keep going as they have started, say hello to a GOP Senate and very possibly a blocking number for the House in 2010.
Traditionally the 'out' party makes inroads in the midterm elections. With a nonstop propaganda machine in full voice for the next two years, and with the very real possibilities that our economic woes will weaken and our troops will see escalating violence in Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan I think the GOP might fool enough of our mostly disinterested electorate to recapture some critical seats. That will make the job even harder for the Dems, though they manage to do that quite nicely all by themselves.

"That will make the job even harder for the Dems, though they manage to do that quite nicely all by themselves."
I'll buy that. I believe Pelosi and Reid are going to ressurect the GOP all by themselves.
I hope they don't start throwin' the horns next. Geez.
Misperformed Lobotomies?
