The Democracy Restoration Act introduced by Feingold, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, would guarantee voting rights in federal elections for millions of Americans who have paid their debt to society after a felony conviction. The bill would allow people on probation or parole, or who have completely served their sentences, to freely exercise their fundamental right to vote in federal elections.

Senate Set To Vote Tonight on New Bailout Bill

WASHINGTON - The Senate is set to vote tonight on a revised financial industry rescue bill after leaders there agreed to add tax breaks for businesses and the middle class and increase deposit insurance in an attempt to revive the legislation rejected by the House.

The surprise move by Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., appeared likely to win a big vote in the Senate that would put pressure on the House to go along and send the measure to the White House.

Protecting The Vote: Live From Main Street Columbus

Voter registration deadlines are just over a week away in many states. Polls open in just over a month. In an election that could well be decided by new voters, voter registration efforts are in overdrive. But signing people up might be the easy part: after that, there's voting. As the last two elections have shown, just showing up at the polls isn't a guarantee of a smooth ride to the ballot box.

Barack Beware... They're Out to Get You

In five weeks, I hope to look back on this column with a wry chuckle at my paranoia. If the system works, Barack Obama will take the White House. The two issues John McCain is most closely associated with - invading Iraq, and deregulating the economy - have produced history-snatching catastrophes in the eyes of 80 per cent of Americans. In the first debate, McCain revealed he had nothing to say except more of the same: aggression abroad, market fundamentalist ideology at home. So why am I worried?
