It is one of evolution's crowning achievements - a mini green power
station and organic factory combined and the source of almost all of
the energy that fuels every living thing on the planet.
Motivated in part by its loss of dominance in the solar energy
industry, Japan has recently announced a new national project for the
widespread deployment of solar PV technologies in order to drive the
price of solar energy toward that of conventional energy sources. In
short, Japan plans to make solar energy cheap.
In his State of the Union address, President Obama noted that
although America invented solar energy technology, we have fallen
behind countries like Germany and Japan in producing it. He is right of
course.
