A four-month investigation by the Center for Public Integrity reveals a growing environmental disaster and a decades-long history of government inaction
WASHINGTON - February 19 - The
dangers of coal ash were largely hidden from public view until
December, when a dam holding a billion gallons of the waste collapsed
in Eastern Tennessee. But what happened there represents just a small

PETTUS, W.Va. - February 3 - This morning five activists, who had chained themselves to a bulldozer and an excavator, and one videographer were arrested for trespassing at a mountaintop removal site. By afternoon, dozens of local residents, friends and supporters from throughout Appalachia converged at the mine's gate. Eight more citizens were arrested in the afternoon action.
