3,000 Vets, War Protesters Hand-Deliver Their Message

Members of Iraq Veterans Against The War (IVAW) march in downtown Denver, leading several thousands activists towards The Pepsi Center. While some feared police would attempt to stop the march, officers surprised the group by escorting the protesters through city streets, redirecting traffic and pedestrians along the way. DNEVER - "Follow Us. Welcome to Denver," read the electronic sign on the police vehicle.

And with that conciliatory gesture, an unpermitted march for peace was allowed to proceed Wednesday afternoon through downtown Denver streets - peacefully.

Iraq Vets Lead Biggest Successful Action of DNC: Push Obama Toward Real Antiwar Position

DENVER - August 28 - Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) led a non-violent march of 8,000 allies, including members of Rage Against the Machine, to the front entrance of the Pepsi Center. There they delivered a letter containing their three points of unity to the Obama campaign's veteran staff. IVAW's three points of unity are:

1. Immediate withdrawal of all occupying forces from Iraq
2. Full benefits and healthcare for returning veterans
3. Reparations to the Iraqi people

IVAW is calling on Senator Obama to allow an IVAW representative to read the letter to the delegates.

Arrested CODEPINK Member Released From Jail, Optimistic For Further Action

DENVER - August 27 - CODEPINK member Alicia Forrest, 24, arrested yesterday on her way to a rally here during the Democratic convention, was released from Denver City Jail at 9 p.m. Tuesday. While tired from the ordeal, she's optimistic for further CODEPINK actions and progress for the rest of the week.

"I was standing up for my free speech rights, showing support for a fellow activist," Forrest said. "If anything, this showed me how powerful standing up for your beliefs can be, and how necessary it is for the truth to get out even in the face of resistance."

Remembering When the US Government Was at Least Approachable

We've come a long way towards imperial government in the US - towards a view of the relationship between the federal government, and especially the administration, and the citizenry that has more of a ruler-subjects than a democratic feel to it.

Iraq Vets Bring Taste of War To Denver

Members of Iraq Veterans Against the War and their supporters conduct a mock military arrest of people acting as \"Iraqis\" during a street- theater protest Tuesday in downtown Denver. The scene drew the praise of war critic U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich. (Rick Egan, MediaNews Group )

Two dozen Iraq war veterans brought Baghdad to Denver's sidewalks Tuesday, repeatedly staging guerrilla-style theater before a confused yet generally supportive audience of pedestrians.

For the veterans, who aggressively engaged with 50 volunteers acting as Iraqi civilians, this was their personal version of shock and awe.

SAN DIEGO, California - Pulled-together socialites and not-so-sloppy artists recently gathered for an atypical art exhibition in San Diego that combines art with wilderness conservation, using contemporary art to investigate vanishing worlds and the people that inhabit them.

Nature has served as the artists' muse for millennia -- now it was their turn to return the favour.
