Cooper finds the weather in Alna, Maine this March morning damp and chilly (although the pond ice eroding). But he is warmed by the affection of his readers and is pleased to bring them something good and decent just this one time. Persons still wishing to find him should try coop@tidewater.net.

And With True Love And Brotherhood Each Other Now Embrace
This is as close as we will be able to come to a Christmas story from me this season. Persons not satisfied with a tangential approach to the conventions of the holiday may find their time better filled with other essays by other writers. It will for them be better to have disengaged here, not yet four score words deep into an unsatisfying excursion, than to hold on through the whole ride anticipating satisfactions I shall not be able to provide. I write for the few, after all, not the many. Someone should.

I Swear I Found The Key to the Universe
I know I could be wrong. Believers do say that only God is infallible, and even He appears to have made quite a startling mess of His great Creation so far. As Some Warn Victory, Some Downfall
I guess we'll annoy some people here today. Ah, well, yes, and who's surprised about that? Anybody expecting this corner of the page to deliver comfortable conciliation will long since have learned to seek elsewhere. We come seldom to encourage enthusiasm for the quality of our present accommodation and the solidity of its ride. Alarm more often is our message as we hurry from car to car crying out that the trestle is gone, the engineer drunk or dead, the fireman and conductor about to jump into the puckerbrush with the mailbags full of payroll cash and pension checks.
