Yesterday, Ari Fleischer limited me to one question. Every other
reporter was not so limited. The question I asked yesterday was about
President Bush's view on the FCC's historic decision last month allowing
foreign government controlled-companies to purchase U.S.-based
telecommunications firms -- effectively nullifying a 60-year old federal
law prohibiting such purchases. With its decision, the FCC allowed the
German government-controlled Deutsche Telekom to purchase the U.S.-based
VoiceStream. Ari said yesterday he would try and get an answer for me.
Today (May 9, 2001 12:30 p.m.), after extensive arm-waving to get
his attention, Ari just turned to me and said: "Russell, I'm still
working on your question. I think I'll have something for you later
today." He refused to take any other question from me. I'm down to zero.
Stay tuned.
