Author Claims White House Knew Iraq Had No WMD
WASHINGTON - President Bush committed an impeachable offense by ordering the CIA to to manufacture a false pretense for the Iraq war in the form of a backdated, handwritten document linking Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda, an explosive new book claims.
The charge is made in "The Way of the World: A Story of Truth and Hope in an Age of Extremism" by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Ron Suskind, released today.
Suskind says he spoke on the record with U.S. intelligence officials who stated that Bush was informed unequivocally in January 2003 that Saddam had no weapons of mass destruction. Nonetheless, his book relates, Bush decided to invade Iraq three months later - with the forged letter from the head of Iraqi intelligence to Saddam bolstering the U.S. rationale to go into war.
"It was a dark day for the CIA," Suskind told TODAY co-host Meredith Vieira on Tuesday. "It was the kind of thing where [the CIA] said, 'Look, this is not our charge. We're not here to carry forth a political mandate - which is clearly what this was - to solve a political problem in America.' And it was a cause of great grievance inside of the agency."
The author writes that Bush's action is "one of the greatest lies in modern American political history" and suggests it is a crime of greater impact than Watergate. But the White House is denying the allegations, calling the book "absurd" and charging that Suskind practices "gutter journalism."
Former CIA director George Tenet also released a statement in which he ridicules the credibility of Suskind's sources and calls the White House's supposed directive to forge the document as "a complete fabrication."
But Suskind stands by his work. "It's not off the record," he says. "It's on the record. It's in the book and people can read it for themselves."
Prelude to war Suskind reports that the head of Iraqi intelligence, Tahir Jalil Habbush, met secretly with British intelligence in Jordan in the early days of 2003. In weekly meetings with Michael Shipster, the British director of Iraqi operations, Habbush conveyed that Iraq had no active nuclear, chemical or biological weapons programs and no stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction.
When Tenet was informed of the findings in early February, he said, "They're not going to like this downtown," Suskind wrote, meaning the White House. Suskind says that Bush's reaction to the report was: "Why don't they ask him to give us something we can use to help make our case?"
Suskind quotes Rob Richer, the CIA's Near East division head, as saying that the White House simply ignored the Habbush report and informed British intelligence that they no longer wanted Habbush as an informant.
"Bush wanted to go to war in Iraq from the very first days he was in office. Nothing was going to stop that," Richer is quoted in the book.
Suskind also writes that Habbush was "resettled" in Jordan with help from the CIA and was paid $5 million in hush money.
Vieira questioned Suskind's contentions, pointing out that a number of intelligence figures eventually wrote Habbush off as unreliable.
"No, that's not exactly the way it worked," Suskind countered. "In the book, you'll see people who are involved and talking about the debate, and it was quite a fierce debate at the highest levels of the government: 'Is Habbush reliable? What's he saying? How can we check it?'
"And a lot of people, at the end of the day, said it was hard for him to prove the negative, that what he said was no weapons were actually not there. That's hard to do."
The letter On page 371 of "The Way of the World," Suskind describes the White House's concoction of a forged letter purportedly from the hand of Habbush to Saddam Hussein to justify the United States' decision to go to war.
Suskind writes: "The White House had concocted a fake letter from Habbush to Saddam, backdated to July 1, 2001. It said that 9/11 ringleader Mohammed Atta had actually trained for his mission in Iraq - thus showing, finally, that there was an operation link between Saddam and al-Qaeda, something the Vice President's office had been pressing CIA to prove since 9/11 as a justification to invade."
He continues: "A handwritten letter, with Habbush's name on it, would be fashioned by CIA and then hand-carried by a CIA agent to Baghdad for dissemination."
CIA officers Richer and John Maguire, who oversaw the Iraq Operations Group, are both on the record in Suskind's book confirming the existence of the fake Habbush letter.
When asked by Vieira for further proof of the letter, Suskind said: "Well, the CIA folks involved in the book and others talk about George Tenet coming back from the White House with the assignment on White House stationery, and turning to the CIA operatives, who are professionals, and saying, 'You may not like this, but here is our next mission.'
"And they carried it through step by step, all the way to the finish."
The London Sunday Telegraph first published a story about the letter in December 2003, on the same day that Saddam Hussein was captured in Iraq. Reported as genuine, the letter made an immediate impact upon the media in terms of justifying the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq. Suskind relates how NBC reported the letter, with journalist Con Coughlin telling Tom Brokaw that the letter "is really concrete proof that al-Qaeda was working with Saddam."
Suskind also quotes Alan Foley, head of WMD analysis for the CIA, as saying, "It is, in my opinion, true that the administration, for whatever reason, was determined to have a showdown with Iraq that predated this whole WMD stuff."
In support of that theory, Foley says that Naji Sabri, Saddam's foreign minister, passed along information that Iraq had no WMD to a Lebanese journalist who served as an intermediary on behalf of the CIA in 2002.
That intelligence, Suskind writes, was dismissed as "disinformation."
Suskind's credentials
So why, Vieira asked, are Suskind's sources finally speaking out now, more than five years after the war began?
"Well, you know, a lot of them have been walking around with this lump in their chest for a couple of years - five years now," Suskind replied. "And because they're essentially free - they're not the original source - they said, 'Look, why hide now? Let's trust the truth.' "
Suskind said it took about seven months to get his storied "nailed." "I'd done this sort of thing for a while, and the way it worked was there were off-the-record sources who played out the story, and then I went to people actually involved," he told Vieira.
"They were freed up because they're not the original source, if you will ... to sort of talk about the context, what they felt, what they did [and] the people actually involved. And of course they're all, through the book, on the record talking about how it all worked."
Suskind, who reported for The Wall Street Journal from 1993 to 2000, won a Pulitzer Prize for feature writing in 1995 for stories of inner-city honors students in Washington, D.C. His reports spawned book-club favorite "A Hope in the Unseen: An American Odyssey from the Inner City to the Ivy League" in 1998.
Two stories Suskind wrote for Esquire in 2002 gave readers an inside account of the Bush White House. The second, which ran in the December 2002 issue, raised eyebrows as John DiIulio, the former head of the White House Office of Faith-based and Community Initiatives, described a presidency driven by politics over policy - "the reign of the Mayberry Machiavellis."
"The Price of Loyalty," Suskind's 2004 book on former U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Paul O'Neill, said that the U.S. occupation of Iraq and subsequent overthrow of Saddam Hussein were planned in January 2001 - nine months before the Sept. 11 attacks.
His most recent book, 2006's "The One Percent Doctrine," also described the Bush administration's willingness to let its post-Sept. 11 foreign policy be driven by suspicion over proof of weapons of mass destruction. It also claimed al-Qaeda leaders were plotting to attack the New York City subway system in 2003.
In "The Way of the World," Suskind describes President Bush as "a guy who needs to make things personal" and someone who "doesn't think in large strategic terms." He also says the president has "always been a bit of a bully."
HarperCollins Publishers is printing 500,000 copies of the book and HCP executive editor Tim Duggan was quoted in Monday's Wall Street Journal as saying Suskind "wrote it as fast as possible and we're publishing it as fast as possible because there is news in the book and we don't want to sit on it."

Show AllWhy is this a surprise.? This was known years ago when Colin Powell gave his infamous speech to the UN.
While the media fell all over themselves trumpeting the story, i was posting within a few days that the entire thing was rubbish.
Scott Ritter was saying much the same and was being told by a CNN "Journalist" that he had been drinking Saddams Kool Aid.
It has been known for years that evidence was fabricated and forged outright and should be obvious that if one has to forge and fabricate evidence, it very likely because there is no evidence.
What is shocking is that there are still people out there trying to pin the blame for this on Saddam , caliming Saddam was trying to "pretend" he had WMDS and was prepared to use them.
This is absolute and utter nonsense. Saddam stated clearly the program was dismantled and he submitted a detailed document, which the United States tore hundreds of pages out of, which detailed how the program had been shut down.
The ruthless dictator, Saddam Hussein told the truth, and the President of the "Free World" was a bald faced liar.
This is rather old news. We've now known for many years that even prior to September 11 that the neo-cons were looking for any excuse to invade Iraq.
Frankly the repetition of the story is only depressing since the chances of actually seeing anybody in the administration held accountable is nil
Hell I knew Iraq didn't have WMD. But the WH wanted a war, and they got it. And the MSM was the little drummer boy(PravadaUSA).And they couldn't even plant some WMD, to make it look right? What gives with that? And Collin Powell even gets his Uncle Tom a$$ up in front of the UN. Did no one remember He and Dick Cheney were the Architects of the first Gulf War? Jesus we are a stupid people. As long as it doesn't mess up our lives, we let our "leaders" play god. Now I know how the Germans who opposed Hitler felt...
As you Yanks would say to this "ground breaking " "earth shattering" news - well Duhhhhhh!
I suppose the only good thing, which could come out of the book being released quickly, is that it may make a few people think twice about a possible war with Iran.
Lawlessness at the top spawns lawlessness at the bottom of any society so careless as ours. Is this too much for the delicate sensibilities of a distracted electorate? So it seems. Americans must accept responsibility for the leaders they invest with such terrible power. Failure do so ensures the United States
drowns in a sewer of its' own making.
Impeach now, before they attack Iran too.
This is old news. It would be funny to say someone forgot to inform Congress of this, but that would not be true because Congress knew about it and was complicit. The sad part is since Congress was a part of this, they will do nothing about it. Hell, I will bet that Bush, Cheney, Condi, Rove, Wolfy, Rummy, and others are having a good laugh about it. I wish some folks in the military would read this, take it seriously, and start revolting, but that is just wishful thinking.
sometimes, as with the house judiciary committee's hearings on not-impeachment, we have to say the glass is 1/8th full.
that a major corporate news organization is NO LONGER fully invested in supporting the white house's lies is in itself newsworthy.
As Darth Cheney would say: So?
It is readily apparent that no amount of evidence will ever result in any meaningful punitive action against the authors and perpetrators of this and other recent atrocities by the "greatest democracy on earth."
We once resided in a world where aggessive warfare was prosecuted as the supreme crime against humanity and where the individuals chiefly responsible were tried and dealt with in accordance with the rule of law. We now live in a world where the criminal actions of individuals are dealt with by aggressive warfare against entire nations and where child soldiers are tortured and tried as scapegoats, while the "supreme crime" goes unpunished, if not actually rewarded.
This is popularly known as the progress of mankind and civilized society.
Dispite thousands of calls and emails to my elected officials I could see this catastrophy unfolding lie by lie and yet I was completely powerless to stop it. Homer described it perfectly with his portrayal of Cassandra in the Iliad. God's wrath must surely befall all those involved with this atrocity.
I sure hope the two named sources for Suskind's story about the forgery - agents Richer and Maguire - hang tough.
The image of the Bush White House rejecting further use of Habbush as their snitch (courtesy of British intelligence) because he was unwilling to go with the script, and then concocting a forged, back-dated letter from Habbush to Hussein (in order to create an Al Quaeda-Atta-Iraq connection so as to justify the Bushies' invasion justification) is certainly a far greater crime than forging a million dollar check, for instance. It's a criminal act of a greater order of magnitude than forging a deed to transfer title to a piece of real estate in retaliation for the lawful owner's refusal to sell.
There are victims everywhere of this deliberate wrongdoing, but the folks who should be most enraged are the mainstream US people who bought into the con uncritically.
Granted, it would be hard for working journalists or editors to flat out and publicly accuse the CIA of complicity in creating a forgery (remember the bogus yellow cake purchase documents?)in the political climate of the Iraq invasion run-up. But that was then, and this is now.
We'll know soon if the gatekeepers of truth for the United States media have taken a lesson or two to heart yet. When ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, and the other big news agencies who took the bait publicly acknowledge they were duped, then this story will really take on legs and life of its own.
Bill from Saginaw
Pelosi needs to call the house back into session and begin impeachment proceedings. This is one way to avoid keeping poor Mr. Bush up for weeks drafting his list of pardoned individuals.
Our country has such a tiny window left. We will never recover from this level of passivity without justice. We have failed the future and will be held accountable.
We can encourage the young people to begin plans for new ways of governing and share what we have learned from this nightmare. No Kings!(where did we hear that before?) Service by lottery. (we would certainly focus on education!)Just two ideas. As ashamed as we are, we cannot allow these monsters to extinguish our hope.
Some may be missing the point: CIA insiders who stayed with the administration are now, for the first time, coming forward to document what most of us already knew - and that is NEWS, and lends credibility to what the fanatical Right has so easily dismissed in the past. The timing, when tied to the House Judiciary hearings of a few weeks past, brings another connection into the fold. Nothing is of itself conclusive, but eventually, when enough people of conscience come forward - those with some morality left intact - then the pressure mounts.
Continuing to believe that you and I can't impact the system is exactly what the corporatists, the Chicago economic boys, and AIPAC want you to believe. They want you to quit - to concede defeat. Read the passages above, although historically accurate, most reek with defeat. HAVE YOU GOT KIDS? GRANDKIDS? DON'T EVER QUIT BELIEVING!!!!!!
Impeach Pelosi along with Bush and Cheney. She's complicit and is just as much a criminal as they are as she's protecting them. She knew what was going on from the start.
So many different "camera angles" on the same criminal disaster. It's all interesting but leads us no where better.
Paul O'Neil and others told us many years ago that Iraq was in the forefront of discussions within the Bush administration from day one.
Bush and cheney perpetrated the greatest lie and crime against the American and Iraqi people. Their use of honorable American service men and women to commit the crime is the ultimate insult and disrespect for the troops and their families.
The only action left for Americans is to prosecute all of the Bush administration who were complicit in the lie. Only then can we hope to regain any shred of credibility on the world diplomatic and human rights fronts.
Until then, we're viewed as stupid American thugs for re-electing Bush.
hazmat - we have to say the Tippy Cup is 1/8th full.
Well, for those who believe that more evidence of wrongdoing might actually lead to some kind of retributive justice for those responsible, somebody should definitely be following the recent exposusures relating to the anthrax scare and the administration's subsequent use of disinformation to further advance their war agenda. If most USans don't care much about the consequences for millions of innocent Iraqis and others, they should at least be slightly concerned about the resulting assaults on their own fast-fading civil liberies.
The only thing Americans care about is being entertained and keeping track of what Britney Spears and Paris Hilton are doing. Even John McCain is knowledgeable about what the bimbos are up to. He even put them in an anti-Obama clip.
Washington cannot be cured. The cure lies with each of us, here at home. Transform your values now to the vision and values of our more sustainable near term future. The dynamics of the new evolved consciousness are many and continuing to develop. Some of them are as follows:
Living in ways that allow other people to live too by satisfying your needs without interfering with others to satisfy theirs.
Living in ways that respect the right to life of all people, all animals, and all living things, in ways that safeguard a supportive environment.
Pursuing happiness and fulfillment in harmony with nature and in consideration of similar pursuits by other people.
Insist that governments interact with other Nations peacefully and in a spirit of cooperation recognizing the legitimacy and sovereignty of those Nations, their resources, and their peoples.
Maintain that business enterprises accept responsibility for their actions and to produce goods and services without impairing nature or engaging in unfair competition.
Require that public media provide reliable and relevant information necessary for citizens to make informed decisions.
Help those living in poverty to live a life of dignity.
Educate the young in the spirit of transformation and the new vision to understand the fluid nature of evolving visions and values required for living in a an age of transformation and sustainability.
Reduce the primary causes of war's, nationalism and religion. Extreme patriotism results in Nationalism and unnecessary wars. Religious dominionist beliefs, the belief that only through my religion can I and others be saved, must be mitigated to result in respect for all religions and an acceptance of their beliefs absent dominionism and violence.
Recognize that change takes place in the minds and hearts of people at the local level and is not the result of centralized leadership in Washington. Change occurs from the bottom up.
Balancing the economy by decentralizing it through support of local farmers, merchants, and service providers thereby strengthening the local fabric of life and making it less effected by national or international problems.
Adopting the values of need, not want, by purchasing only those things that you need and making things that you have last longer by repairing them instead of replacing them.
I went to ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX (Dont ask), CNN, and MSN website, and I couldn't even find a mention of the book or that fact that even more proof has risen on the subject of war crimes commited by the Whitehouse LOL.
And you really wonder why we are screwed as a country ?
Good Times Good Times
NOW, can we impeach and indict?
Hey
Lets have some fun with this one...
I say that this book is a total fabrication ...TOTAL Fabrication...(I honestly don't know if it is or is not)..but I say it is because if it were not Democrats would be falling all over themselves to Impeach Bush...if only in revenge for Clinton's impeachment...except they aren't seriously considering any Impeachment at all...they just had the mock hearings to shut Kucinich up because he was starting to be an Embaressment
and you say Bush is not being impeached because ___________
Thank you for your indulgence
The Corporatocracy that controls this country needs to be held accountable. We need war crimes trials, corruption trials, violations Constitutional law trials, and harsh sentencing. We need a big vacuum cleaner in Washington, NY, and elsewhere.
Doom n Gloom August 5th, 2008 1:24 pm -- "Washington cannot be cured. The cure lies with each of us, here at home."
Sounds good in theory, perhaps. But, so long as there are human societal interactions of any kind whatever, there must be some reliable set of fundamental laws to govern them. (The "law of the jungle" isn't really a very good option.) And, equally important, there must be some kind of enforcement mechanism in place to ensure compliance, or, in its absence, the application of appropriate sanctions.
So, you might be able the give up on "curing Washington" in some abstract political sense, but you can't simply dismiss the very broad practical consequences of a non-functional legal system where "checks and balances" no longer apply to those who hold near-absolute power over your life and livelihood -- not to mention the entire planet and its survival.
Thank you Ron Suskind (and odoco: "Some may be missing the point..."). If we can reach the tipping point of believing these CIA men that Bush ordered falsified intelligence to lead us to war then Bush must be prosecuted, whether criminally or by impeachment, or both. However, we cannot impeach Bush and leave Cheney to run the country, so it's better to go slow for the moment. God I hope more CIA come forward.
If Bush isn't impeached, what eventually will have to happen will be a revolution. And if it comes to that, it won't be nothing nice. Without impeachment, it doesn't matter who the next president will be. Our government, as it is right now, is totally corrupt. And if that corruption goes unchecked and unpunished, what's to stop things from only getting worse. We will either have a revolution, or we will be beat to the ground in a long series of unwinable wars. Impeachment, revolution, or obliteration. Or, it might just be too late for us anyway.
hazmat said: "that a major corporate news organization is NO LONGER fully invested in supporting the white house's lies is in itself newsworthy."
Yeah, the MSM may be starting to drop the cover for the Bush administration, but that doesn't mean that they're out of the business of lying to the public for political purposes... They are just going to lie for the next administration instead.
PETSR4EVER07 writes: "If Bush isn't impeached, what eventually will have to happen will be a revolution..."
There won't be a revolution, and Bush will get away with his crimes, just as his father did.
Immediately Clinton stepped foot inside the Oval Office, he dropped three investigations into Republican wrongdoing, including an investigation into the illegal arming of Iraq by the White House (get hold of a copy of "Spider's Web" by Alan Friedman, at the time a London Financial Times correspondent, or go to www.democracynow.org and search for "Alan Friedman" without using quotation marks).
The Democrats protected Bush's father, and that protection gave Bush a leg up in 2000.
Why do you think anything is any different now?
Americans, en masse, need to desert the two main political parties.
"President Bush committed an impeachable offense"
Shhhhh! Keep it down! Pelosi is trying to have a snooze.
Heres a theory
Bush isn't being impeached because Bush hasn't done anything Impeachable
The reason Bush will not be impeached, is not because he has not committed an impeachable offense, it is because senior Democrats were complicit in the crimes.
Pelosi was briefed, as example, on the torture of persons held by US forces. The Democrats were briefed on the spying program.
They can feign outrage , but if a Bush went to jail so too must many Democrats.
Has anyone gotten an explanation for this story a month ago?
http://www.philly.com/inquirer/world_us/23730164.html
It said that U.S. troops have moved 550 metric tons of yellow cake from Iraq to Canada. Right-wing bloggers responded by saying, "Ahah! Saddam Hussein DID have weapons of mass destruction! The darned liberal media are giving this important story a pass!" At the end of the story, it says that this stockpile went back to before 1991, and it was known to UN inspectors.
So, there WAS material for WMD, in Iraq, but not quite the imminent danger BushCo claimed.
This is clearly a hang `em high crime and not a misdemeanor.
It is the constitutional duty of Congress to see to this but since it refuses to does not the duty fall upon We-The-People to to take the law(makers) into our own hands and raise them up above the common man?
Everyman has the right and duty to return America to a constitutional form of government - that's the basis of our Declaration of Independence.
While this may be old news for some, the facts that the book was put together by a former Wall St. Journal writer with solid MSM credentials and uses named on-the-record sources inside the CIA does a couple of positive things:
1) It ups the heat on the Pelosi/Obama anti-impeachment crowd;
2) It shows that there are people w/in the journalisitic establishment and even the CIA with consciences and that neither are monolithic, totalitarian institutions -- yet.
Suskind and his sources should be credited for their professional comepetence and courage in the face of a generally hostile system and apathetic public.
Yawning off this work as "been there/ done that" is the worst form of cynicism and borders on nihilism.
Let's get real.
Bush isn't being impeached because Bush has not 'Decided' to impeach himself.
Tip o' the hat.
Tip o' the iceberg.
I am a military retiree. I have been against the unnecessary war of choice for Israel since 2002. The general citizen of this country has accepted this war, as well as Zionist Zelikow's whitewash of the 911 Commission report. The 911 Commission just provided a cover for the evasion of the truth. And, apparently, few care. No surprise in what Suskind writes. Much worse has been hidden by the Bush administration. And, no, Obama will do NOTHING to expose the truth, and punish the evil criminals that conducted 911.
biwee
I am also a Military retiree with a son in Iraq (101st ABN)
sorry to tell you though Brother...in my opinion the 911 Commission coverup started by putting Jamie Gorelick on it as a member and most of the incriminating evidence went out of the National Archives in Sandy Bergers Shorts
Would anybody care to make a little bet that Bush is not impeached?...
I know a FINE Little Winery on Whidbey Island that makes a beautiful salmonberry Liquer that is just awesome!...perhaps a bottle of that?
Word of mouth witnesses on this issue, more and more actual eye witnesses, reaching back at least eight years, 'discovered' memo after 'discovered' memo, implication upon implication, court ruling after court ruling, prima facie evidence upon more of the same all of this and more with the ultimate insult to the electorate, and the numb congress, "Yeah, I destroyed the Constitution and I broke laws. So what?"
300,000,0000 citizens of varying degrees of what is construed of as consciousness reflected in opinions, where no leadership is competent to the degree needed for so many 'non-voices.'
The constant 'nail-scratching-on-the-blackboard' screeching of advertising, media fomenters and self-proclaimed experts of nothing, right-wing radio opinion manipulators, blogs and commenters.
Eight years later, nobody voted them into office, nobody believed their lies, nobody heard, saw or spoke a belief of this administration.
Three petitions for impeachment on the internet, or more, Congressional calls for impeachment either silenced, ridiculed or blacked out by the fourth estate of the media.
The screeching is scraping the back of the skull of Mr. Ivins, the nails pushed in hard by FBI thugs with a political agenda, no evidence, but enough cruelty and a loose enough leash to destroy a single man who was different enough to pin any crime on regardless. A lapse into anger in a venue where honest emotions are required in order to heal become the ravings of a homocidal maniac. Not the utterings of a cornered, frightened, vulnerable human being.
The pinnacle symbol of the brutal indifference of the real psychopaths...
Just as they know that Iran is not constructing Nuclear Weapons.
So?
The truth won't stop a war. Only the war maker can do that.
ARVY said, "This is popularly known as the progress of mankind and civilized society." I would ammend that to read this is where a society that worships MARS leads. It explains why a barely cognizant toad like McCain can be propped up as "presidential material," too.
GOOD posts: DOOM & GLOOM, ARVY & T J.
How about the Downing Street Memo... there sure has been a lot of damning evidence, but as some have here stated, maybe if enough of it gets out, the voices of denial will no longer chime so loudly and shut out the ONLY conclusion possible regarding this mess of elaborate irresponsible amoral crime(s) stemming from the High Office.
In response to tj August 5th, 2008 2:38 pm
Your post is right on the money. Suskind quotes two CIA operative "on the record" that this occured. And Suskind has great journalistic credentials, although it's probable he could not have written this book while still employed by the MSM.
We should not be waving this off as just "old news." It's not. It's brand new, DOCUMENTABLE evidence. It will be interesting to see how the MSM will/won't follow this up by seeking interviews with Suskind's sources.
This is something that the Traditionalist Native People---not the one's who dominate today, most of them are content to take their per-capita payments--that they pay 63% tax on--and dress up in their "regalia" and go to the Rodeo and dance for the white folks--- have long waited for.
The USA to finally be so over powered by their own hypocracy that they will blatantly commit the same war crimes that Hitler, Tojo, and the many others (before and since WWII)----and then SCREAM FOR IMPEACHMENT---
So while everyone (or at least so many) people are screaming "Impeach"; Bush and the other potential "co-defendants" are laughing at you----yes you----the one(s) who think that the USA is such a remarkable example to the world, that you will be so fantastically naive (or stupid) as to think that "impeachment proceedings" will actually be a reliable answer to YOUR COMPLICITY---yes YOUR COMLICITY---in WAR CRIMES-----
EVERY SINGLE AMERICAN WHO DID NOT STAND UP AGAINST AN ILLEGAL WAR OF AGGRESSION IN THE FIRST PLACE IS AS GUILTY AS THAT CADRE OF FOOLS WHO YOU ELECTED TO BE YOUR LEADERS----
The only reason for this is a Cultural Corruption that is deeply seated in the American mind set. How else could all of this have taken place? The vast majority of the American people are just as corrupt as their leadership----- by ALL of this it is meant from the begining ----1776---present.
Where was the CIA when they knew the Commander in Chief lied about the WMD this article does not explain the many others who knew and stayed quiet---that is CORRUPTION AT THE HIGHEST AND LOWEST LEVEL---by the way---Israel possesses WMD but they were not invaded----and they have made more wars than Iraq since 1948----where the hell is the logic?
The American People as a whole are CORRUPT ARROGANT and ABUSIVE PEOPLE who have developed a corrupt culture and they most likely have a very short time to exist----at least in their present form.
So I'll make this short and sweet.
Dear America,
You have out lived your usefulness. You have lied and cheated your way to power, and in your final years you allowed a very small group of your sons to take over and commit international level crimes taking countless innocent lives and wasting countless others.
You have little to none credibility in the eyes of the world---except maybe from those who want to be just like you.
You are now on the verge of the most dangerous part of your existence; you have allowed your entire economy to be subjected to interference from an even smaller group of the sons of a more foolish group of people the "Sons of Islam"----who will make sure that they will take you hostage, and feed your children to the "cannibals"---instead of their own............your economy is on the brink of collapse. Far too few are in direct control of far too much or your precious money. you have the largest population of poorly educated, or under educated (please try to remember that GW Bush holds two degrees from two of your most prestigious universities, and still cannot speak your language properly-----but he HAS read the BIBLE through--twice).............
You put yourself in this position; and you have no one to blame but yourself.
Jesus is not coming back to save you (he never existed except in your foolish imaginations) , and there will be little of the "justice" you crave given to you; more like the "justice" you have handed to others (slightly less than 2.5 million of those whom you issued that 'justice' to are left from what many believe to have been as much as 100 million) and there is most likely only one thing you can do to stem that tide-----and you are not intelligent enough, or BRAVE enough to do it.
Take Mr. Bush and his entire staff----and every single person that was involved in this latest illegal war of aggression and pack them up, from top to bottom, with exception of maybe the person with a broom and dust pan and send them to the Hague for trials as war criminals. That is the only thing that will save you and assure a future for your children. Otherwise, as soon as those Arabs that GW Bush holds hands with realize that you are staggering from the first punch --that is if you allow this administration to get off with only impeachment---- they will drop you into your own pile of excrement---(the Chinese and Indians will make better customers for their oil anyway)------and the USA will become what it deserves-----------
THE Negative example of history----
As for me and mine---i.e. the Traditiional Native People---we will crawl out of the rubble you will create of your own nation, in the same way we crawled out of the ruble you made of our nations;
------ AND WE WILL LIVE FOREVER.-------
Good
Bye......

unfortunately this site is crawling with advocates of surrender, insisting that we join their wallowing in defeat and helplessness and in their ennui that this is all so very old hat.
but I suppose that goes with being superior and sophisticated, having a clear vision of a fascist future and having made peace with it.
for the unbowed, the fight goes on.
Congress - a FAILURE to not protect us from THEM
The 4th estate, the "press" - a FAILURE for not protecting us from THEIR LIES.
My friends and I KNEW Iraq was "largely about the OIL" in 2002 as bushCON amped up the WAR talk. It all was fabricated BULLSHIT, and we knew it.
CRIMINALS, LIARS, THIEVES, RAPISTS, MURDERERS
Just 5 words I have to describe Republican's, and they will do.
Pelosi, Reid, Harman and others are too compromised by their own foreknowledge of the administration's illegal spying and torture. To impeach or implicate Bush for his crimes will bring the same to themselves. And as typical politicians they will always put their careers before the wellbeing of the people. The Dems can never hold the White House accountable until they clean their own house and its leadership. And what do you think are the odds of that happening?
"So, you might be able the give up on "curing Washington" in some abstract political sense, but you can't simply dismiss the very broad practical consequences of a non-functional legal system where "checks and balances" no longer apply to those who hold near-absolute power over your life and livelihood — not to mention the entire planet and its survival."
You clearly are a well grounded person Arvy. My beliefs do nto follow a linear or logical pathway but exist in the world of Spirit. I believe that Spirit is the path to the transformational world represented by the year 2012. It represents a state of raised consciousness and advancing human evolution. The idea of mind over matter best describes it. The historic record of past solar events predicts it. Human evolution is again about to advance. We are again about to touch the obelisk.
Well, it is for certain that hate, and it's subsequent cohort, rage, blinds, regresses the mind to allow easy stereotypes, condemnation, lies and the furtherance of the present.
