Congressional Panel To Review Kucinich's Call to Impeach Bush
But the House committee won't actually consider removing the president from office.
WASHINGTON - Rep. Dennis Kucinich's single impeachment article will get a committee hearing - but not on removing President Bush from office.
The House on Tuesday voted 238-180 to send his article of impeachment - for Bush's reasoning for taking the country to war in Iraq - to the Judiciary Committee, which buried Kucinich's previous effort.
This time, the panel will open hearings. But House Democratic leaders emphatically said the proceedings will not be about Bush's impeachment, a first step in the Constitution's process of a removing a president from office.
Instead, the panel will conduct an election-year review - possibly televised - of anything Democrats consider to be Bush's abuse of power. Kucinich, D-Ohio, is likely to testify. But so will several scholars and administration critics, Democrats said.
The hearing is a modest gesture by House Democratic leaders to members like Kucinich who insist that Bush's reasons for going to war meet the standard for impeachment. Kucinich had said that if his impeachment article is tabled he would just propose another one.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has made clear since she ascended to that post that there would be no impeachment proceedings. But that didn't stop Kucinich from introducing 35 articles of impeachment, spending four hours in June reading them on the House floor and demanding hearings. The House summarily dispatched them for burial to the Judiciary Committee.
Kucinich came back with a single article, which was read into the record Tuesday. As it did with the others, the House referred it to the panel, chaired by Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich.
But this time, Pelosi said with a conspicuous lack of enthusiasm, that it would see some committee action.
Democratic aides said the hearing could take place as soon as next week.
The impeachment resolution alleges that Bush misled the public into thinking that he had no choice but to wage war on Iraq and implied that Iraq had helped al-Qaida with the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Democratic aides have widely suggested those gauging the bill's prospects look to a precedent: the impeachment articles against Vice President Dick Cheney, which were sent to Conyers' committee in November. There's no evidence they will be considered before the Bush administration leaves office in January.
Those were Kucinich's, too. Republicans, seeing a chance to force Democrats into an embarrassing debate, voted to bring up the resolution. Democrats countered by pushing through a motion to scuttle the bill from the floor.

Show AllWHAT HAVE THE REPUGS HAVE ON Pelosi, WE NEED TO GET HER OUT OF THE WAY.
ROVE, DRAG HIM OUT OF THE CLOSET AND SEND THAT FAT PIG TO JAIL. MAY HIS INMATE BE AN OVER ENDOWED, OVER SEXED, CRAZED PERSON. HE NEEDS THAT TO REMIND HIM OF THE SORRY DEEDS THAT HE PULLED OVER THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.
It is very obvious that when the Democrats took power that they made Conyers promise to toe the line on impeachment before they made him the chair of the powerful Judiciary committee.
This seems to be standard operating proceedure for the Dems. Pelosi obviously sold her previously progressive soul to become speaker. And Obey obviously did the same to get the powerful appropriations committee chair.
The party is obviously run by the big contributors, and I'm sure they insist on this before anyone gets high office. Specifically with Conyers, they almost certainly sat down with him and told him that his previous talk about impeachment was unacceptable to the money that runs the party and that if he didn't back off he would not be the chair.
Its always interesting to see which way people go when push really gets down to shove.

Read the book "Free Lunch (How the Wealthiest Americans Enrich Themselves at Government Expense and Stick You with the Bill)" by David Cay Johnston. I'm only a third of the way through and have been sharing several of its tales with friends, but then I'm preaching to the choir. None of the rightwingers I know will change their minds about anything. They're too busy worrying about illegal immigration and gays getting married.
Kucinich is a modern Don Quixote. Just tilting at windmills.
The man's heart is in the right place. But he just ends up being a sideshow that distracts from the main message that the Dems are not the answer. His campaigns for President are a giant waste of resources. They obviously were never going to go anywhere in a game that's rigged to make sure a corporate controlled candidate got the nomination.
And this whole impeachment deal is the same. Its basically a smoke screen to try to make it look to those who don't pay attention that the Dems are pursuing impeachment when in reality they are doing no such thing.
If Kucinich has any moral integrity, he'll leave the Democratic party. Until then, he's just another part of the problem because his main purpose is to fool other progressives into thinking they have a role in this party that in no way represents them.
10 to one, they all end up walking into the sunset, without any accountability what so ever.
8 yrs. of the biggest joke in the history of democracy. Excuse me, while i go and throw up.
If I could bet a dollar on terryb's proposition and get ten back, I'd fly to Vegas tonight!
More likely the odds would be 1 to 10. Bet $10 and Vegas would give you $11 when it happens.
Samson,
But he just ends up being a sideshow that distracts from the main message that the Dems are not the answer.
-I fear you're right. It gives them cover and allows the DPAs to say, "SEE not all the Democrats are bad!"
I think Kucinich should follow the lead of McKinney and leave the party. How can any self-respecting person be a member of the despicable Democrats after all they''ve done and failed to do?
How do you look yourself in the mirror?

The Democrats complicit in Bush/Cheney's many war crimes and violations of our Constitution, which include Pelosi among many others, will never allow their criminal complicity to be exposed. All of these war criminals will most likely get away with torture, mass murder, and their many other crimes.
This is called "rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic".
This president is not only illegal, (and treasonous for taking us to war on false
pretenses) but terrible, moronic, robotic,
and zombie-like.
I can hear some kid in a car on a long trip
if families took long trips any more. "Hey,
Maw, has he left the country in as bad shape as he did the Texas Rangers?"
The press, totally uneducable, is trying its
best once again to take the "bite" out of everything. But I want to be positive. So
I'll say right now, I really liked the article by Tom Hayden yesterday on all the foolish wars-- Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, and one proposed for Pakistan (before anybody even considers our braindead goading of Iran).
It's so clear that the dopes who run for president have some deepset affinity for quagmires. If they think they can get out of
one they want to get into another, immediately.
I want to be positive, so I'll say again, Barack Obama is best. But..........
Right now our country seems to be side stepping accountability and enforcing the law. Individuals seeking personal gain got the country into war, brought the banking systems to its knees, destroyed the FBI, and destroyed confidence in the legal system, and on and on. I support Kucinich's effort to start the accountability land slide with the President.

sounds like she might be getting a little scared herself for her seat.
Unfortunately, America has a Nancy Pelosi instead of an Oliver Cromwell.
Cowardly Congress, senseless Senators - not good enough, America. Kudos to Kucinich - and only to Kucinich.
Paradoxically, it seems immunity has become contagious. We have the example of the Blackwater Boys granted immunity before the fact, we have the 'Telecom' suck-ups granted immunity retroactively, and Nancy Pelosi and all her "Democratic" Party suck-ups declaring Bush & Company immune from impeachment.
Are Dennis Kucinich and a handful of other principled members of Congress the only people in Washington who think The Constitution actually means anything! You have to know that Kucinich and his honest colleagues will become the butt of many jokes here in the land of the free and the home of the (what was it?)...oh yeah, the brave. The movers and shakers of the Democratic Party are already huddled with the movers and shakers of the corporate ('mainstream') media, plotting how this little farce is going to be played out.
They will appear to be mocking Kucinich...but they will actually be mocking the Constitution of the United States...and us poor fools that take the Law seriously. ....And these Democratic Party piss-ants, expect us to vote for them in November?
I may be a fool, but I ain't a 'damned fool'! If we can judge by the company he keeps, this Obama guy is just another a**hole. Anyone who votes for him just because the DNC heavies proclaim McCain is a veritable 'limb of Satan', is another a**hole.
All of these clowns who allow themselves to be cajoled, bullied, or threatened into voting 'strategically' for a "Lesser Evil" will deserve what they get--another tool of the military/industrial/media alliance...not fit to touch the hem of Ralph Nader's robe.
Go ahead, you chumps, keep voting your fears rather than your hopes, and you'll keep getting presidents who owe their souls to the be-suited gangsters who see War as 'a business opportunity'.
The names might change...even the colors might change...but you'll still be stuck with politicians who will do their masters' bidding, while compromising themselves right into the Republican Party.

So Bush's crimes become political theater?
Let's say Al Capone danced down State Street in Chicago when the law caught up to him. And he did a deft two toe tap twirling his hat on a cane as he light-footed his way down the famous avenue. Would that have been enough to keep him off of Alcatraz for all those years?
For political purposes that appears all Bush and company will be required to do. A few non-mainstream malcontents can mouth off and release gas. The national media might catch it all for a day. And that, so far as respectable people are concerned, will be it.
Yes, the Democrats will bring out some dancers for their three ring circus. But nothing else will matter. For it's only a great show.
tetti_tatti: "We don't need a third party, we need a second"
Right. After the Demoks/Repuks finish imploding into a single Likud party, then the Green party will rise up to counter it. It's already happening.
A modest response to the criminal behavior of the Bush administration is inappropriate. Among other things,Bush is guilty of war crimes.
Impeachment hearings are whole different animal from the sop they are throwing Kucinich and the majority of Americans who favor impeachment. Impeachment hearings have automatic subpoena power and cannot be dismissed by the president.
The Democrats aren't just shielding Bush, they are shielding Nancy Pelosi. When she became Speaker, she cut a deal with the White House; if they wouldn't investigate her and her family's involvement in dirty land deals, the Democrats wouldn't impeach.
Politicizing the Constitution is not an option. Allowing them to put impeachment out of reach negates the power we have to decide how we will be governed. The House must not be allowed to continue its willful negligence.
Kucinich realizes this whole thing is futile, but he is keeping the issue in front of the American people the only way he can. The media is being forced to cover it to some extent. And, he gets more support from other reps each time, putting a lie to the media-driven narrative that he is some sort of nutbar and that this is at best Quixotic and unfounded. For that, he deserves our thanks.
I supported his candidacy for the same reason. His presence at the debates allowed him to at least present alternative views and have them heard (when they let him have his five minutes).
He's not perfect, as so many of the people reading this site obviously are, but he's more willing to risk his career than others I can think of.
Thanks, Dennis.

Last Saturday in Chicago, former Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney accepted the Green Party nomination for President (www.gp.org). Unlike 95% of the Members of Congress, she has ALWAYS sided with the People and the Constitution. And, she was the first to introduce Articles of Impeachment.
If you believe the Bush-Cheney cabal need to be impeached and tried for war crimes, then vote McKinney-Clemente. Obama talks about change we can believe in...with Cynthia, you get change that will really happen.

We all know Dennis Kucinich represents the left wing of the Democratic Party.
And we all know that America and the rest of the world would be in much better shape if Dennis Kucinich were president.
But what we *also* know is that Dennis Kuchinich caved in like a third-rate mine shaft in 2004 when he threw his support to John Kerry -- despite Kucinich's promise to continue his candidacy through the Democratic Convention.
Keep in mind, too, that midway during this year's primaries Kucinich expressed his support for Barack Obama over John Edwards.
Dennis Kucinich, for all his good points, is like all the rest of the so-called "liberal Democrats" -- they're afraid to break ranks with the Democratic Party. They're afraid to break ranks with a party that has, time and time again, sold out each and every mass movements they've conned into supporting them. Labor. Farmers. Environmentalists. Minorities. Civil rights activists. Peace activists. You name it.
If people like Dennis Kucinich, Mario Cuomo, Barbara Lee, Maxine Waters, Barbara Boxer, Alcee Hastings, John Conyers et al -- in other words, if the left wing of the Democratic Party were *true* progressives -- if they had the guts and the character to stand behind what they espouse AND FORM A THIRD PARTY == with that kind of name-recognition, can you imagine how much *immediate* support they would get.
Can you imagine how *impossible* it would be for mainstream media to prevent them from delivering their message.
So one has to ask -- what kind of progressives are these people, Dennis Kucinich et al)? What kind of progressives are these people when they say one thing and then hide behind the "political property" they've accumulated as Democratic Party politicians?
Can there be a clearer example of valuing property rights over human rights?
Kucinich supported John Kerry in 2004 -- and John Kerry in an interview he gave to the Wall Street Jounral on July 16th 2004 stated that, if elected, US troops would still be in Iraq for at least his first term, maybe longer.
So Kucinich et al -- i.e., the left wing of the Democratic Party -- has to explain how thye can be anti-war and yet support a pro-war candidate.
They did this with John Kerry, and now they're doing it with Barack Obama -- all the time knowing that were they to stand up for their principles, having the name-recognition they do, they could make a meaningful third party break with the Democratic Party.
One might look on all this differently if after Bush was elected in 2000 the Democratic Party did everything they could to stop the Bush Administration. As a minority party up until 2006; and then as a *MAJORITY* party from 2006 onward! But of course, as we all know, they did precisely the opposite -- they enabler Bush and his fellow war criminals instead of stopping them. In fact, they are complicit in the war crimes of the Bush Administration. See Glen Greenwald's recent article in Salon Magazine, "The Motivation for Blocking Investigations Into Bush Lawbreaking" -- http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2008/07/15/10383/#comment-325373
The Democratic Party is not a political party that deserves your support. It's not a peace party. It's not a civil liberties party. It's not a democratic party.
The Democratic Party is up to their ass in the same corporate money that finances, controls and dictates Republican campaigns and Republican political agendas?
Where's the fundamental difference? Where's the choice?
If the Democratic Party had attacked Bush in the 2004 campaign with 1/10th the fervor with which they attacked Ralph Nader, they would have won in a landslide.
As for the democratic (small d) majority ... two-thirds of the American public wants out of Iraq ... only 25% of the Ameircan public approves of the Bush Administration. ... Does the Demcoratic Party represent these people? Of course they not.
Unless and until the progressive left in the United States stands up to the Democratic Party and withdraws their support, America along with the res tof the world are in mortal danger.
You know it and I know it.
Vote McKinney. Vote Nader. Vote your conscience.
Make your parents who taught you morals and ethics and right from wrong proud. Make your children whose future you cherish proud. And make yourself proud.
Margaret Thatcher back in the 1980s had the unmitigated gall to suggest to the world the concept of T.I.N.A. -- "There Is No Alternative." In other words, the general public can't do anything to fundamentally change political realities.
... You believe that? ... You're not outraged by such a despicable, unprincipled, anti-democratic frame of mind?
sllawrence July 16th, 2008 7:19 pm writes: "Please explain to me, then, you and others who say 'vote 3rd party', what we do about the Supreme Court packing problem..."
-This actually a DPA (Democratic Party apologist) red herring. Democrats routinely vote with Republicans to confirm right wingers. Ever wonder how John Roberts became the Chief Justice?
Roberts won confirmation by a 78-22 vote. All 55 Republicans voted to confirm Roberts; 22 Democrats, including Senate Judiciary Committee ranking member Patrick Leahy of Vermont, also voted to confirm Roberts, as did the one independent (Jim Jeffords). 22 Democrats, including Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, voted in opposition.
22 Democrats voted to confirm Roberts! That is fully half the Democrats supported the Republicans as is their custom.
How about the Attorney General Mukasey? Obama, Clinton, Dodd and Biden skipped the vote altogether. He was confirmed 53-40 in spite of the fact he refused to say whether water boarding was torture.
The following Democrats voted to confirm Mukasey:
Evan Bayh
Thomas Carper
Dianne Feinstein
Mary Landrieu
Ben Nelson
Chuck Schumer
Joe Lieberman
53-4= 49 (the four Democrats not voting)
49-7= 42 (the seven Democrats voting for Mukasy)
If these 11 Democrats had voted against Mukasey he wouldn't have had enough votes.
The DPAs are always crying wolf and claiming the sky is following and to vote for Democrats. But the reality is that Democrats always give the Republicans the votes they need accomplish their agenda. Then they usually sprinkle in some lesser-evilism for added effect. Don't listen to DPAs just check the record and you'll see the Democrats are treasonous scoundrels that are faithful to the Republican agenda..
Don't waste your vote on Democrats! They are complicit with and help cover up the crimes of the Republicans. Vote for McKinney, Nader or 3rd parties!
Tailcap,
I'm so glad you made the point about Supreme Court nominations. This, DPAers feel is their "ace in the hole." But the simple fact is -- The Democrats not only confirmed all of Bush's Supreme Court nominees, they could have also filibustered whoever Bush sent to the Senate for confirmation.
They didn't.
This, as you pointed out in your post, is also true for the *other* nominees Bush sent to the Senate -- e.g., the criminal now wearing the title of Attorney General; the warmongering Secretary of Defense.
By the way, thanks for the acronym "DPA" (Democratic Party Apologist).
How about we add a couple more letters and make it NADPA!!! ("Not Another Democratic Party Apologist!!!")
Voting for a continuation of corporate power truly is a wasted vote. How many times does the progressive movement in the United States have to be shafted before this becomes obvious?
Interestingly enough, on a personal level, as opposed to a political level, people are usually *mortified* when they've been made a fool of. Especially when they'be been cynically, calculatingly and cavalierly fooled.
Their personal embarrassment is followed by anger, after which they try to figure out how to -- hey get this! -- *redress their grievances.* (A revolutionary idea, I know. But there you have it.)
This is what Dennis Kucinich told us, in it in at @ 34:43 minutes copuld be leass or a bit more. The mash up was done without the proper order. This was the 1st meeting with Conyers. We met with Dennis as well. As Veterans of Peace our 2nd, which I didn't make, daughter in hospital with siezures, was a mere FK You meeting. Supposed to sit in outside Conyers office on 25 July, but as we used to sing along, "Hell what are we fightin' for, there's lot, we dob't give a damn, next stop is Vietnam.,..", so it is what the fuck it is....

I like it- NADPA! Hey, keep up the good work of debunking the myth that Democrats are an opposition party, lesser-evilism and the disingenuous arguments of DPAs. Well done.
To Republican CD bombers:
Your argument is getting tiresome. "Obama and McCain are the same, so vote for somebody else (and give the election to MCain)".
They're not the same. Our Obama beats your Bush/McCain where it counts, on the environment, foreign affairs, the economy, on energy policy, on education, women's rights, IQ, etc..
Also, there are some good liberals like Kucinich in the dem party, but not one in your repug party, which is 100% composed of anal retentive conservative racist hicks. (Paul doesn't count because he's a libertarian)
Please don't insult our intelligence with childish attempts at deception. Constant repetition only works on conservative dittoheads.
To Angry Progressives:
The problem with democrats is their conservative faction. vote them out and replace them with Greens and Indys, but don't throw Kucinich and other progressive dems under the bus by lumping them all together.
And give Obama the benefit of the doubt. We could do a lot worse.
Screw impeachment, it doesn't look like it will happen before these rogues slither their way away (if they don't whip us further by whipping out their big dick of 'national emergency' and presidential directive #51).
What I've seen legal scholars write, though, is these monsterous people are still subject to criminal prosecution even AFTER they leave office. Of course this is a re-do since, completely in line with the 'like father like son (and grandfather even)' homily, there were rumblings of trials for Bush I at about the same time he had left in office for conspiring to introduce, promote, & distribute crack cocaine into the United States. Then again Bush I, his father (Prescott Bush, a traitorous Nazi conspirator even when we were actively at war with Germany), as well as the son, Bush II, have completely insulated themselves with pallets of hundred dollar bills stolen from Americans.
Perhaps we should all consider insulating our homes with Federal Reserve Notes, eh? Shortly, these notes will be worth less than traditional fiberglass batting thanks to these Bush Mafia thugs (my apologies to the Mafia for such a comparison ;-) )
In all seriousness, though, we must make sure to continue to hound these gangsters even AFTER they leave office, since Pelosi's shameful scam will not lead to true justice.
An early schedule for the proposed hearing has been released.
Daffy Duck cartoons will be shown just prior to opening remarks by Pelosi who will reemphasize that the "committee won't actually be considering removing the president from office" and that the "emphasis will NOT be about a Bush impeachment".
In a continuing effort to keep the hearings on a light note, George Bush's favorite movie, Charlie Chaplin's comedy "The Great Dictator", which he generously lent the committee, will be shown, after which there will be a short break with cupcakes and tea from Marie Antoinette's Bakery, courtesy of Speaker Pelosi.
Time permitting, committee members will ponder, ever so gently, the remote and vague possibility of a some minor attempts by the president to maybe "mislead the public into war." Each member will have 15 seconds to ask their questions, however, due to the time constraints and other matters of greater importance, no one will be allowed to answer.
A masked costume party for all committee members and their interns will follow the hearings. Costumes will be allowed during the hearings, prior to the party.
Playing nicely will not work! Pelosi is on the Bush team and as such will look good making fools of the democrats. What needs to happen people is what the constitution made provisions for! Lock load and hit the lying cheating scoundrels hard, if they don't surrender, go all out at least let the world see that the USA abides the rule of law and not the falsely represented statues and lies invented to facilitate the greatest crimes of all times, even greater than those of Hitlers Germany!

While the US economy falls into a severe crisis (no doubt soon to become a full-fledged panic), Congress fiddles and avoids fulfilling its constitutional duty to impeach a criminal president and vice-president. As Gore Vidal has said for years, the republic has fallen on very bad times because of the serious failings of American politicians, leaders in all realms, and the larger public which has become complacent and apathetic. Will the economic crisis awaken a deeply suppressed instinct for rebellion against the cynical corporate/government oligarchy that led us into the present debacle? We will find out very soon as the economic pain comes home to ever greater numbers.
How do we create a sense of outrage in our ignorant, complacent and apathetic public?
Conservatives hate Obama for having the most liberal voting record.
Regarding the case for impeachment, there is a misconception that Clinton was impeached for receiving a blow job. He was not. What he was impeached for was lying while under deposition by the Grand Jury. Thus, it was correct that impeachment proceedings be brought against him. That the whole thing was a fishing expedition by the Republicans is another matter - the fact is that Clinton committed either a high crime or a misdemeanor and should have been impeached.
Now that we have that out of the way, it's plain to see that what George Bush and Dick Cheney have done is to commit high crimes, many of which have been laid out by many others - any one of which makes Clinton's look like child's play. So, if one case was plausible to cause impeachment, the other should be as well. The thing is, it appears as if the Republican led Congress was willing to uphold their constitutional duties while the Democratic led Congress is not.
While I am loathe to see the Republicans in power again, it's plain to see why the Democrats garner such enmity and lose elections they should win. In short, they just don't do their jobs.

BILL MOYERS:
Let me go right to page 155 of your book. You write, quote, "The evidence is overwhelming that George W. Bush and Richard B. Cheney have engaged in deceit and deception over going to war in Iraq. This is an impeachable offense."
JOHN DEAN:
Absolutely is. The founders in the debates in the states-- I cite one. I cite one that I found -- I tracked down after reading the Nixon impeachment proceedings when-- Congressman Castenmeyer had gone back to look to see what the founders said about misrepresentations and lying to the Congress. Clearly, it is an impeachable offense. And I think the case is overwhelming that these people presented false information to the Congress and to the American people.
I heard on Olbermann tonight that Bush is claiming Executive Privilege once again. This time it is on not giving Congress the transcript on V.P. Cheney when the F.B.I. questioned him about the leak of Val. Plane's name when he was questioned during Scooter Libbey's trial. What would they do without the Excutive Power. Bush's seven and a half years has been nothing but that. Why didn't Clinton use it? All the secrecy and they don't think people know how crooked they are. As Dick Cheney says, "SO"
"Wrapping themselves in the flag, repeating the mantra 'security' and attacking anyone who questioned this insanity as soft on terrorism, they succeeded in disgracing their country before the world, and now they deserve to be called what they are: traitors. In a just world they would be prosecuted and convicted."

The more people talk about what this administration has done the better. But it is possible that large enough percentages of the American people will support this destruction of western values and no criminal prosecution will occur. But if any president should face impeachment it is Bush.
I believe that Kucomch wants an indepth Congressional debate, seasoned by critics of government, about facts exposing serious failures of leadership to abide by constitutional constraints, can require impeachment to save the country from royal rule.
I have this tiny hope, nearly microscopic, that the politics being played here might be to bring before the public evidence that cannot be ignored. As we all know, the MSM holds hostage much of the information Americans need to make informed judgements. What may be needed is a groundswell that is not there yet to force impeachment. At the worst, it is a political move to clarify facts to tens of millions of voters who haven't understood what has been happening because of the repeated spin, framing and lies.
.
Squarely lay the blame for blocking Impeachment of Bush and Cheney at the doorstep of Nancy Pelosi.....She must be removed.
IMPEACH both Bush and Cheney........NOW, before they get us into WWIII and another Great Depression.
.
BECAUSE IT CONCEPTUALLY REJECTS THE LIE of meaningful differences between Republicans and Democrats, progressives' use of the words: "...a second party...," -- or -- "...we need a second party...," is an instantly more powerful use of political language than us saying -- "...we need a THIRD party."
Repeated use of words or phrases that call for a 'third party' implies that progressives/constitutionalists agree with the false distinctions propagated by the Duopoly about itself, reinforcing this hypnotic delusion in the population at-large.
Since language can change thinking - often more rapidly than thinking can change language - Tetti_Tatti's reminders about terminological caution in progressives' use of 2nd [arty vs 3rd party references are totally, entirely sensible.
Agreed, we need a second party first, then we can worry about the third. Good point.
Face it America. The President and Congress have basically said they are above the law. The law does not apply to them as they are the rulers. If they break the law, it their right to pass legislation that make such not only legal, but retroactively so.
You are now Subjects of the President of the United States and his congress.
Your rights exist at his or her whim.
reading through these comments gives me a feeling of both being glad that i am an American citizen as well as hope ... the awakening is spreading fast ...
impeach the current administration now !
Charlie Brown - the name for all the Obama supporters who claim that they are against the illegal war (or maybe they only against it because it is not winnable).
They are all Charlie Browns because they fall for the old 'pull the football away at the last second and fall on your ass' each and every time. Lucy is played by the Democratic Party Leadership.
How many times will you fall for it? Obama never was, and never will be, a progressive candidate that will put the common good ahead of corporate interests.
Vote for McKinney, Nader or 3rd party!
Impeach, and sorry, while I like Kucinich, he fails to be a progressive leader when he continues to put party loyalty ahead of justice and law.
True commitment to the peace and justice process requires supporting those candidates that support peace and justice. And that is not Obama.
COCO: A very good thought! I will say no more except to stay calm. You're on the right track!
Tailcap: Glad you referenced the votes on your post. Thanks!
PaulMagillSmith: Excellent post, but think what Coco said. Sometimes the wheels of justice turn slowly, but they keep turning. Don't any of you give up. This is OUR COUNTRY, and if you want to restore it back to the way it was before this corrupt group of gangsters took over, we all may have to get off our behinds and the computer, lamenting day after day after day and take the necessary action before it's too late. Anything worthwhile does not come easy my friends.
Ezeflyer: You're one of my favorites, but I've got to tell you that after seven and a half years of the Bush/Cheney Republican Crime Family and the Democrats who collaborated with them, several of which Tailcap mentioned above, and if enough morons still vote for Bush's buddy McCain, this country doesn't deserve to survive. Personally, I'm voting for the candidate of my choice, whom I think will represent the majority of the people and not the MIC and the international bankers. Cynthia McKinney will get my vote in November. Don't get me wrong, EZEE, I respect your views and understand why you would vote for Obama.
Anybody from Nancy "Bush's Girl Friday" Pelosi's district in San Francisco who hasn't signed the petition for Cindy Sheehan for Congress...what are you waiting for? PLEASE sign it and whatever you can afford, no matter how small, please donate to her campaign. Thank you all, fellow CDers for your concern, but the time is getting closer to put into action the "Seven Magic Words."

Corruption doesn't seem enough to account for the dysfunction of Congress.
Extortion using damaging information obtained from the NSA warrantless wiretapping seems more likely. Legislators would not be the only targets. Judges, military higher-ups, and security officials would also be likely targets for wiretapping and extortion (or payoffs).
Security. We now have "contractors" (Blackwater included) involved in national security. How will they be used? Blackwater's specialty has been brutality rather than extortion.
