New War Brewing: US, Israel Take Dangerous Steps
GENEVA - The U.S., Israel and Iran are playing a very dangerous game of chicken that soon could result in a new Mideast war.
U.S. intelligence has concluded that Iran is not working on nuclear weapons. But the Bush administration and Israel, recently joined by France, are issuing increasingly loud threats of military action to frighten Iran into halting its nuclear enrichment program.
Iran insists its nuclear program is entirely for civilian use. Tehran is alternating between conciliatory statements and threats to retaliate against any attack by inflicting economic chaos on the global economy. Europe fears the economic damage a war against Iran would bring far more than Iran's nuclear program.
Senior Israeli officials are openly threatening to attack Iran's nuclear installations before President George W. Bush's term expires. Early, this month Israel staged a large, U.S.-approved exercise using F-15s and F-16s to rehearse an attack over 900 miles - precisely the distance to Iran's nuclear facilities.
The highly regarded American journalist Seymour Hersh just confirmed that the U.S. Congress authorized a $400-million plan to overthrow Iran's government and incite ethnic unrest. This column reported a year ago that U.S. and British special forces were operating in Iran, preparing for a massive air campaign. Israel's destruction of an alleged Syrian reactor last fall was a warning to Iran.
This week a Pentagon official claimed an Israeli attack on Iran was coming before year end.
Other Pentagon and CIA sources say a U.S. attack on Iran is imminent, with or without Israel. The Bush administration is even considering using small tactical nuclear weapons against deeply buried Iranian targets.
Senior American officers Admiral William Fallon and Air Force Chief Michael Mosley recently were fired for opposing war against Iran. According to Israel's media, President Bush even told Israel's Prime Minister Ehud Olmert that he could not trust America's intelligence community and preferred to rely on Israeli intelligence.
AIR BLITZ
Intensifying activity is evident at U.S. bases in Europe and the Gulf, aimed at preparing a massive air blitz that may include repeated attacks on 3,100 targets in Iran. Other sources say Iranian Revolutionary Guard installations will be barraged by cruise missiles.
In Washington, Congress, under intense pressure from the Israel lobby, is about to adopt a resolution calling for a naval blockade of Iran, an overt act of war.
Pro-Israel groups have been airing TV commercials claiming Iran is attacking American troops in Iraq and threatens the U.S.
The Bush administration's last desperate act, its Gotterdammerung, could be war with Iran. UN weapons inspectors concur with U.S. intelligence that there is no proof Iran is working on nuclear arms, but the neocon war party in Washington is determined to loosen a final Parthian shaft by striking Iran.
Israel asserts the right to maintain its Mideast nuclear monopoly by destroying all fissile-producing reactors in the region. Iran vows to retaliate against Israel with its inaccurate Shahab missiles, shut the Strait of Hormuz and mine the Gulf, producing worldwide financial panic, severe fuel shortages, and $400-$500 per barrel oil. Iran likely will attack U.S. forces in Afghanistan, Iraq and Kuwait, and strike Saudi and Kuwaiti oil facilities. Canadians in Afghanistan could also become targets.
GRAVE DAMAGE
The embattled Bush administration's bunker mentality is leading to war that will gravely damage long-term U.S. Mideast interests. A single Iranian missile hit on Israel's reactor would do more damage to the Jewish state than all its previous wars. Besides, Israel cannot destroy Iran's nuclear infrastructure. A U.S. or Israeli attack on Iran will guarantee Tehran decides to build nuclear weapons. Israel and Iran have turned their regional rivalry into a confrontation that threatens all.
Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, not its bombastic President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, controls that nation's military and insists Iran will not produce nuclear weapons. Israel claims it faces a second holocaust. Iran says Israel's nuclear forces threaten its existence.
The dogs of war are being unleashed.

Show AllThe new piece of information in here to me is the Congressional resolution to establish a military blockade of Iran.
If this is true then, people, we need to get on the phones and on to the e-mail sites of our representatives and senators RIGHT NOW!
Can someone confirm whether this is true or not?
Good grief. I wasn't going to send Cindy Sheehan money because she isn't in my district. But we desperately need to both get rid of Pelosi and have more people like Cindy in our House.
I'm sending a check to you soon Cindy! I cannot afford much, but maybe if we all send a little you will succeed!
Bush is as mad as a hatter. When will Americans wake up?
Zzzzzzzzzzzz.
Both political parties are behind this, not just one of them and not just Dubya alone.
The neocons want to ensure that the next administration is trapped in a cycle of endless war in the region. That the Dims go along with it shows beyond reasonable doubt that there is really no difference between the Janus masks of the Corporate oligarchy.
Ron Paul speaks out! http://www.infowars.net/articles/july2008/040708RonPaul2.htm
Yeah this blockade legislation is real.
That drunken Mel Gibson rant about jews starting all the wars in the world should be forgiven, since it came at the time israel had attacked Lebanon.
Its is a troublemaker--only cares about itself and the rest of the world be damned.
Chosen people myths aint good.
A blockade that is not sanctioned by the U.N. is, indeed, he equivalent of aggression, an act of war. Neither Senator Obama nor Senator McCain have told us how they will vote or if they will chicken out and "campaign" somwhere away from Washington when the legislation comes up in the Senate. My hunch: both will vote "aye" to demonstrate how serious they are in "protecting our country."
One gets the feeling that most of us Americans just don't give a crap anymore, that they've pretty much surrendered to the idea that our corporate-owned and operated government will do whatever it wants to whomever it wants whenever it wants and there's clearly not a damn thing We The People can do about it.
The vast majority are so focused on just getting by at this point that as long as there's no chance their city or town will be attacked directly - and there is literally no chance of that - then they got better things to worry about, like will the job/house/car be there tomorrow...
Outside of those of us with the time to read about what's really happening, I can't find a single person, Red or Blue, who even has a clue as to what's coming...
It has been referred to the House committee on foreign affairs. This might mean that it is signaled to die in committee.
But an e-mail to your representative and a letter to the Chairman of the committee on foreign affairs would not go amiss.
The most insane detail of this article notes that War Criminal Bush GETS HIS INTEL FROM ISRAEL! NOT THE US INTEL COMMUNITY!
The next most insane detail is "Jewish Groups" (read Zionists/AIPAC) are airing commericals in the US inciting war!
Next on the insanity list is THAT ISRAEL LOBBIES THE US CONGRESS TO WAR! IS THIS LEGAL?
What a flagrant hi-jacking of the country I was born in by a country in the ME and American Jews.
I WANT MY COUNTRY BACK.
I WANT A PRESIDENT NOT IN ISRAEL'S POCKET.
I WANT A CONGRESS THATS NOT FOR SALE TO ISRAEL'S LOBBY.
I WANT PEACE IN THE ME. IN PALESTINE. IN IRAN.
GOSH, WHAT CANCER IS THE PROBLEM HERE?
hello jcrumb
What do Sheldon Adelson, Dick Cheney, and Israel have in common?
Israel is the world's 3rd most powerful military power (posessing the 3rd largest nuclear arsenal in the world and has the largest arsenal of F-16's outside of the US), and the USA which lavishly subsidizes them and spends more on their own militarism that the rest of the planet combined, is for all intents and purposes Israel's bitch.
Iran has no nuclear weapons. Iran has not had a military nuclear program since at least 2003. Iran's air power is next to nonexistent, and it's navy is really nothing more than a coast guard. It spends less on defense than Singapore or Sweden. This is all from the latest US National Intelligence Estimate on Iran; the one the Bush Administration suppressed last summer while repeatedly lying to the American people by telling them the exact opposite, trying to drum up support for yet another unprovoked war. Oh, yeah; Iran has also formally offered to recognize Israel's right to exist, an offer that was ignored by Washington and Jerusalem and blacked out in the US media.
Any respect I might have had for Barack Obama instantly evaporated the moment he publicly genuflected and prostrated himself before AIPAC and pledged fealty and undying allegiance to a foreign government, Israel.
Because it isn't enough that the US is killing people in wars on two fronts, a third must be opened up. I forget where I read it, but someone said only a fool fights two wars, and to fight three wars at the same time one must be a madman. Someone sneak a psychiatrist into the White House because all of them need a serious evaluation.
I feel hopeless. At least my Congressman isn't one of the co-sponsors of that resolution and I will write to him asking him to vote no on it. But what is the use? The Democrats were voted in on the promise that they would stop the war. Not only have they not stopped it, but they recently funded it again, above and beyond what the president asked for. We know we can't expect the executive branch to listen to the people with Cheney's "So?" typical of the whole lot. But has anyone got any ideas on how we can actually get Congress to really listen to the people? A threat to not vote them back into power doesn't seem to be enough. Especially since, come November, just about everyone of them will retain their seats. What does it take?
Haven't the faintest, the vaguest, or the most remote idea as to what WE can do.
All the Oswald-Sirhan-Hinckley types have abandoned the possibility of assassination of Bush, you'd still have Cheney so none of the potential assassins out there are willing to sacrifice themselves. It's the old business of cutting off the monster's head and it just grows a new one.
All I can say is when we all blow ourselves to smithereens, I don't want to be left to be "The Omega Man"

This piece holds just as true today as ten years + ago when he did this.
Wake up people. We're getting railroaded into another unwinnable war in the Middle East for the sake of Israeli land-grabs and apartheid.
Gullible journalists have been writing articles blaming the oil lobby for getting us into an unwinnable, immoral war in Iraq, and will now say the same about Iran. But who's pushing House Resolution 362? AIPAC, Israel's nest of spies and subversives in the US. Not the oil lobby.
AIPAC's HR 362 follows in the footsteps of AIPAC's Kyl-Lieberman resolution, which declared the most important branch of Iran's military to be a "terrorist organization," and therefore subject to attack at the president's discretion. As if we could attack Iran's military without attacking Iran.
If you blame the oil lobby for HR 362 you're playing into AIPAC's strategy for deflecting attention from their shadowy, subversive operations. Sure, Big Oil likes to steal oil when it can get away with it, but they've never backed regional war in the ME.
Take a look at the following passage from Walt and Mearsheimer's "The Israel Lobby and US Foreign Policy," pp 145-146:
"Some commentators believe that oil and gas companies are driving US policy to gain lucrative access in places like Iraq, or to foment instability that will drive up oil prices and enable them to reap windfall profits. Not only is there little direct evidence of such behavior, but it runs counter to the long-term interests of major energy companies. Energy companies do not like wars in oil-rich regions, sanctions, or regime change — the staples of US Middle East policy in recent years — because each of them threatens access to oil and gas reserves and thus their ability to make money, and such events also encourage Americans to think more seriously about reducing demand for the oil companies' main product, Thus, when Vice President Dick Cheney was the president of Halliburton, a major oil services firm, in the 1990s, he opposed US sanctions on Iran (a policy, as discussed in Chapter 10, driven largely by the [Israel] lobby) and complained that US firms were being "cut out of the action" by America's "sanctions happy" policy. Cheney's earlier position suggests that if oil companies controlled Middle East policy, the United States would have pursued a very different agenda in recent years."
When will the masses wake up to the fact that Nazism, Stalinism, Zionism, Fundamentalism are all one in the same fanatical, fascist ideologies that care little of the welfare of the planet or its people.
When millions of humans took to the street to protest the war against Iraq, the fascist Cheney/Bush and their miliraty bulletheads said, "So! As if I give a fuck!"
The only thing they will understand is a bullet in the head.

Good reporting by Eric Margolis of the Toronto Star. At least once, I had to check back for the byline, as I couldn't believe the article was a mainstream piece. (Shows difference between Canadian and US press.)
"The Bush administration's last desperate act, its Gotterdammerung, could be war with Iran."
Pays to be a student of history. I guess this big word was Hitler's Battle of Bulge, the final flinging of his beaten-down forces against Eisenhower in the Ardennes. Here is the wikipedia entry:
"The title is a translation into German of the Old Norse phrase Ragnarök, which in Norse mythology refers to a prophesied war of the gods which brings about the end of the world."
Now as for the tactical nukes. They may in fact be better than an endless shower of Depleted Uranium bombs against command and control targets throughout Iran (the grand tour you know the Zionists and neo-cons are yearning for.)
Apparently nuclear blast fallout doesn't stay around and blow around like the sub 1-micron DU particles. The previous use of DU means that we've already gone nuclear, especially during the early shock and awe bombing phase in Iraq. The radiation released was equivalent of 400,000 Hiroshimas, according to one Japanese scientist.
Once things go nuclear, the Iranians would surely be free to pursue and use nukes, in their own Gotterdammerung.
Wow, I guess the crazies really are in charge.
See also Linda Heard's piece here.
The great Bill Moyers recently framed the situation like this: "The neo-cons are like arsonists who have set a terrible fire and then boast that they cannot put it out."
The resolution is Continuing Resolution 362. It was introduced around May 22, and as of June 19, when it was mentioned in Daily Kos, it had over 100 co-sponsors (it has over 220 now) and there had been NO media coverage, none!
It specifically calls on the Bush Administration to "initiate an international effort to immediately and dramatically increase the economic, political, and diplomatic pressure on Iran to verifiably suspend its nuclear enrichment activities by, inter alia, prohibiting the export to Iran of all refined petroleum products; imposing stringent inspection requirements on all persons, vehicles, ships, planes, trains, and cargo entering or departing Iran; and prohibiting the international movement of all Iranian officials not involved in negotiating the suspension of Iran's nuclear program;"
This would clearly constitute an act of war, both logically and as defined in the UN Charter, to which the US is a signatory. And it clearly could and would be used by Bush to claim that Congress had authorized this act of war. It is getting some buzz now on the web, including an article and an action alert from Antiwar.com, and there have been a scattering of news stories in the mainstream press, including an opinion piece in Newsday and a column by Rep. Ron Paul in the Baltimore Sentinal. CBS ran an article by Rep. Ackerman from Politico on its website denying that the resolution means what it says, but there is no indication that they aired this story.
It is being speculated that H. Cont. Res. 362 will come to the floor this week, and will be acted on under rules governing "non-controversial" resolutions which allow for only 20 minutes of debate. Yet EVEN AT THIS LATE DATE IT HAS NOT BEEN REPORTED OR EVEN MENTIONED on ABC, NBC, MSNBC, FOX, CNN, PBS, NPR, BBC, AOL, msn, USA Today, the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Christian Science Monitor, the Boston Globe, the Miami Herald or The Los Angeles Times! The American people simply don't know about what may well be a pivotal action by Congress! We were never given the opportunity to organize and speak against it.
We can still speak out. We must speak out. We need to raise hell. Every person who sees this coming is one more person who has one of the tools they need to understand what is happening, and this struggle isn't over until the last US soldier leaves Iran and Iraq, or whatever is left of them! But with 220 co-sponsors, this bill is a done deal, a stealth attack that we didn't see in time!
How did this happen? What went wrong? Why didn't CommonDreams and Alternet and Truthout pick up on this story back in May? Why didn't we make sure the whole world knew about it? As of June 24, there were 160 co-sponsors, including 70 Democrats, so every member of Congress knew about it, yet there had still at that time been no press coverage at all! Why didn't any of our allies in Congress speak up? Is it because we don't have the right kind of liason?
I don't know the answer, but I don't doubt the intentions and judgment of the people who run these sites, so my best guess is that we didn't have the right resources, the right "assets", to pick up on it. Probably this wouldn't have happened if we had had professional correspondents in Washington who spend their days going through the Congressional Record and visiting Representatives and Senators to ask them about what's going on. And then the question becomes how do we pay for this kind of news staff?
And even if this story had been reported in CommonDreams in May, given the corporate media's apparent determination to maintain complete silence on it, how would we get the news out to the people?
These are urgent issues, which we need to confront. The problem is only going to get worse. The one mass-audience outlet which often breaks the corporate media's silence on a major story is Yahoo News. Yahoo appears to be on the edge of a takeover that will turn the news operation over to Rupert Murdoch, and there is no way we can stop that!
One last request. If you have an idea, please speak. We need to be thinking together about this. But please please don't write about the "sheeple"! The American people are capable of making good choices given good information. They aren't getting it. Evidently even *we* aren't getting it sufficiently. This is a problem to be solved, not a fate to be bewailed. We know where it's coming from, and it ain't Joe Sixpack who's doing this to us. He's smarter than some of you think.
whatever happened to the popular and often asked question by islamophobes in the USA of, "why do they hate us?" "It must be because we are democratic and free fom AIPAC, zionists and neocon chickenhawks".
>>Pays to be a student of history. I guess this big word was Hitler's Battle of Bulge, the final flinging of his beaten-down forces against Eisenhower in the Ardennes. Here is the wikipedia entry:<<
No. Hitler's Gotterdamerung was his orders to destroy everything in his final days. He went around saying that the German people didn't deserve him. (in a way he was right of course) The final orders were to destroy every bridge, dam, museum, palace, public building. The orders were largely "lost" before reaching the troops detailed to carry out such things, who were also trying to stop the Red Army and the Americans on both fronts. If you want to point to one battle that was the Gotterdamerung, It surely wasn't the Battle of the Bulge which didn't even occur in german territory.
Congressional committees are still working on the legislation that would constitute a de facto *declaration of war* on Iran.

In the meantime, CheneyOilCo is pushing to provide Israel with cruise missiles... a huge escalation in Middle East weaponry.
Obama lies - McCain lies - Congress lies... we are being led into another war through more lies.
When I told my sister that it looks like Bush is getting ready to attack Iran, she said, "Oh, hush. You spend too much time on the internet. If Bush were getting ready to attack Iran, it would be on TV."
"How did this happen? What went wrong?"

Any politician who opposes HR 362 will be targeted for defeat, and eventually run out of office, by AIPAC. Any journalist or educator who crosses the Israel Lobby will also soon find himself/herself out of a job.
The Israel Lobby is the most powerful lobby in the country and if any politician shows anything less than blind subservience to its treasonous agenda, they are soon replaced by someone else more willing to put Israel first.
Our politicians, journalists, and educators are terrified of AIPAC and the Israel Lobby. That's how this happened, in a nutshell.
We can only hope that along with the Bush Junta's 'bunker mentality' there will be a poisoning and bullet in the brains of the entire Bush Administration.
These *imbeciles* are counting on a wider war in the middle East. it will help their stock options in the oil companies (briefly), Halliburton/KBR, Blackwater, raytheon, McDonnall-Douglas, IBM, etc.
For about two weeks.
Then the horrid reality of $200+/bbl savaging the worlds economy will set in. Food deliveries will grind to a halt. oil for heating homes will be gone. And winter will be in full swing in North America and Europe.
BILLIONS will die because of rioting, starvation and cold. millions more will die in the spasm of violence that will engulf the Middle East. Israel will be swept aside like a gnat. Washington, D.C. will burn, torched by a home grown angry mob. The banking system will collapse like the house of cards it is.
Trade, technology and the comfortable life we have grown accustomed to will be over.
Only those who are ready to live close to the ground, using permaculture techniques, low tech and community will survive.
A $400-million plan to overthrow Iran's government? That would easily make the US the world's largest sponsor of terrorism. Way to go Bushie!
O Dang, I can't get my Bluetooth to work right, and Customer Support is no help. Boo hoo.
What's for dinner tonight? Oh no, not Dominos again. Yuk.
Hey man, did you finally bed that hottie from work you were tellin' me about? Yeah? She any good? Cool.
What time is it? Miller Time...Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!! Who's pitching for the Yanks, anyway?
What's this about Iran? Where the heck is "Iran!!"
Hey dude, where'd ya get that crazy Ringtone. Gimme that thing, I want one.
Oh now I got a friggin' headache, time to pop another pill...
What, "the Constitution?" What the heck is THAT??
Hey, hey...get ready....the girls just pulled up. Ahhhh....life is sweet :)
Sorry, I was wrong, this is not a new "law" but a House Resolution which, I understand, does not need to be cleared through the Senate.
WHY is anyone surprised that Bushwack is starting yet another war that he will not have to fight. He is the classic kid trying to prove he is bigger, better and can cause more attention getting than his father.
Some of us have known this since Reagan knew his worthlessness to the world. You know who you are.
The National Security Presidential Directive 51 (giving the Executive responsibility for ensuring constitutional government IN AN EMERGENCY) is the one item that will virtually insure we will NOT have an election in November and possibly for years to come because this president is not likely to give up his little kingdom.
Do NOT be surprised when GWB declares a state of emergency in which it is SIMPLY TOO DANGEROUS to have a transition in government or hand over the massive responsibility of governing to an "inexperienced" new administration in the midst of a 'national emergency' such as the bombing of Iran by Israel and OUR NEED to support them OR the U.S. Navy attempting to keep Iran from blocking the shipping lanes in the Straights of Hormuz THEN the rest of the Middle Eastern nations opt in to defend Iran against the "freedom fighters" who have been occupying their neighbor Iraq for five years... FIVE YEARS SINCE "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" !!!!
AND WHERE IS THIS OSAMA GUY? WHERE ARE THE QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SUPPOSED THREAT AND CAUSE OF ALL THIS FEAR?
Do NOT be surprised that Cheney/Bush ensconce themselves in another undetermined length of time in office. If you THINK this is outrageously impossible, you have NOT been paying attention to the more than 1,000 signing statements the administration has quietly used to change every piece of legislation THEY CHOOSE to make it what they want, NOT what the representatives of the people have tried to enact.
PAY ATTENTION - QUESTION AUTHORITY - THAT IS PATRIOTISM.
WE MAY WELL HAVE TO OCCUPY THE OFFICES OF CONGRESS - ALL OF THEM- TO GET THROUGH TO THEM.
The Battle of the Bulge was not even Germany's last offensive.
That would be Operation Konrad, the attempted relief of Budapest, in Jan. 1945. But that didn't occur on the Western front, against Americans, so it gets ignored in Western history. No surprise there.
Ancient Athens lost its empire and its freedom because it allowed itself to be dragged into wars involving its surrogates and allies. Eventually they were fighting everybody.
The last German Kaiser lost his throne and empire because he blindly supported his ally (Austria-Hungary) right into World War I.
The short-term political advantages of supporting more militarism, more war, by our un-representatives in government will lead us to disaster and perhaps oblivion.
Gee, I remember the good old days when there was a system of checks and balances that made it impossible for some loony in the White House to destroy the country. Uhhhh... must have been a dream.... or maybe a movie on late-night teevee. Anyhow, it seemed like a good idea at the time.
American imperialist dominionist megalomania supported by American Jews, fundamentalist Christians, and beer swilling flag waving American's will launch a war against Iran fated to failure and probable Islamic blowback in America. The political stage is set and there appears to be NOTHING that anyone can do to reverse it. The dogs of war are preparing to be loosed. The greatest reality show on Earth is coming to your neighborhood this summer. Who among you is best qualified to survive small pox, radioactive explosions, and economic collapse. The winners will receive one million useless inflated dollars and enjoy the benefits of violent anarchy and mass death. Only the strong will survive, for the first month, then even they will die. Bring it on!
Nothing to get so worked up about.
Iran and Hormuz and all that are on the other side of the world. If USA military (those brave boys and girls) throw missiles and airstrikes and whatnot at Iran, it isn't going to endanger anyone in any of the 50 states. Iran can't reach Israel, really, with all that USA fire power defending the seas and skies.
And, as I say, you Americans are protected by oceans and distance.
Just remember, your military is doing all this far far away from you, so don't sweat it.
Other states in the region won't be bothered either; Russia, has some exchanges with Iran, but they won't do anything except pick up a few of the leftovers; India, who has just signed a pipeline deal with Iran, will wait till it all blows over; China, just wants to run the Olympics without any more glitches, so forget them; Pakistan, all the other 'Stans, will duck their heads and hope they aren't next.
Israeli and USA military won't suffer any casualties, and the oil producers will raise production to cover the temporary jiggle in Iran's oil production.
So, relax, neighbours. If you're a bit bothered, just threaten to vote for the other party, you know, not the one you always vote for, but the other one, in November...that'll fix them down there in Washington.
Your vote threats make them look before they leap.
I think aipac is using the election to get a strategic target taken out. Anyone who defies toughness against Iran, loses the Jewish vote, but if the shit hits the fan with 6 dollar a gallon gas, the reps will not be seen for a long time, unless a major escalation happens and the sheep vote for the war vet.
God it sucks to be gen-ex. We didn't get the good drugs or sex. We got the Brady Bunch, MTV the internet and this decade of shit, and, will have to pay out the ass for SS and the damage to this planet.
Asymmetrical war means that the better equipped, wealthier country or group has the most targets. The poor desperate country has the most suicide bomber candidates.
Congratulations USA you are target land.
doom n gloom, what is up with the "beer swilling" invective? maybe you meant nascar watching, reality show watching....redneck or gay? perhaps sipping on a glass of fine port or expensive champange would make one more inclined to rational thought. as a craft brewer i think your inference is way off base. dont judge the judgement or capacity for intelligence of others by their predilections or life-style choices. it makes your opinion so unworthy of consideration.

Oppose Resolution 362
The resolution's key section "demands that the president initiate an international effort to immediately and dramatically increase the economic, political, and diplomatic pressure on Iran to verifiably suspend its nuclear enrichment activities by prohibiting the export to Iran of all refined petroleum products; imposing stringent inspection requirements on all persons, vehicles, ships, planes, trains, and cargo entering or departing Iran; and prohibiting the international movement of all Iranian officials not involved in negotiating the suspension of Iran's nuclear program."
This resolution essentially calls for an act of war – a naval blockade of Iran. If passed by the Congress and Bush does what is asked it ensures war with Iran. Iran is three times the size of Iraq. If you think the Iraq war and occupation have been bad, wait till you see what war with Iran brings.

WHILE I FEEL FOR THE IRANIANS I HOPE ISRAEL DOES ATTACK THEM---THEN WE HAVE A GOOD CHANCE OF ELIMINATING ISRAEL ONCE AND FOR ALL........
Here we go. Iraq took our minds off of Enron. Iran will take our minds off the pending economic collapse of the US? Oh Georgie, my hat's off to yu.
No one but a psychotic scion of Richfilth animals could destroy the greatest Empire ever seen in the history of the world. Georgie, you did what no external enemy could ever do.
The world owes you a lasting debt. Now just hurry up and die.
Nobody here is going to prevent OR CAUSE anything. Haven't in 40 years, what makes you think anything you do will have any impact now? How many brigades do you command? How many millions of Americans will march with you in the streets? Hmmnn? Sorry about the death agonies. This is the path the American people chose.
How many? Not nearly enough.
Iran is in a great position to stop shipping in the Persian Gulf. A few thousand mines adrift, some tankers hit with missiles, and the world's largest petroleum supply will be largely cut off.

poopdeck, an HConRes is just that, it's a Congrssional Resolution not a bill. I say all this not to be a wise guy, I do this all day long. I am not inferring stupidity on anyones behalf.

If anyone EVER figures out how to STOP a war, clue me in I've never seen that trick yet. What happen to Israel sitting silent for what, hmmm 10 hours?
Screw this. If they get a Declaration of War, first they need an HJRes, then according to Article.I.Section.8., Clause 11 "the Congress shall have power to declare War..., so if this occurs, it did not for Iraq that is why it is considered an illegal invasion, then Congress agreed.
umlaut - the repugs are very busy spreading the word that the rising cost of gas is the dems fault. This is going to be the biggest part of this phase of the election - to make sure Obama doesn't get elected - because the high price of gas now tops all the rest. Health care, the economy, the war, have all sunk to the bottom as ever more of our hard earned money goes into the gas tank.
I wonder if Iran knows where the nuclear arsenal in Israel is?
And Rome lost it's empire because it started relying on mercenary forces, which turned on it.
Bush/Cheney want to make sure that the military draft will have to be re-instated before they go out of office. And make no mistake, there will be plenty of loopholes that allow rich kids to get out of it or be deferred because of attending college. And because exorbitant tuition tends to prohibit many children from middle and lower income families from attending college now, we know who is gonna be the cannon fodder.
AUTUMN IS ON FIRE.
Did you feel the white hot flash as it lit up the sky
Do you think its an attack, do you think we will die
Is there anywhere to run
Is it worth a final try
Did you feel the searing pain as the heat burned your brain
Is it just another warning or the Americans again
Have they launched a nuclear strike
Would they be that insane
Autumn skies are crimson
The code word is Expire
And the ground is molten hot
Cos Autumn
is on fire
Did you bounce around like a stone crashin on the shore
Were you taken by surprise, no declaration of this war
They came out of the darkness
Babylon's unleashed the whore
Autumn skies are crimson
The stakes have risen higher
Smell of burning everywhere
Cos autumn
is on fire
