Former Agent Says CIA Ignored Findings on Iran
WASHINGTON - A former CIA operative who says he tried to warn the agency about faulty intelligence on Iraqi weapons programs now says that CIA officials also ignored evidence that Iran had suspended work on a nuclear bomb.
The onetime undercover agent, who has been barred by the CIA from using his real name, filed a motion in federal court late Friday asking the government to declassify legal documents describing what he says was a deliberate suppression of findings on Iran that were contrary to agency views at the time.
The former operative alleged in a 2004 lawsuit that the CIA fired him after he repeatedly clashed with senior managers over his attempts to file reports that challenged the conventional wisdom about weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East. Details of his allegation have not been made public because they describe events the CIA deems secret.
The consensus view on Iran's nuclear program shifted in December with the release of an intelligence report that concluded that Iran halted work on nuclear weapons design in 2003. The publication of the National Intelligence Estimate on Iran undermined the CIA's rationale for censoring the former officer's lawsuit, said his lawyer, Roy Krieger.
"On five occasions he was ordered to either falsify his reporting . . . or not to file," Krieger said.
In court documents and in statements by his lawyer, the former officer says that his 22-year CIA career collapsed after he questioned CIA doctrine about the nuclear programs of Iraq and Iran.
He was assigned undercover work in the Persian Gulf region, where he recruited an informant with information on Iran's nuclear program, Krieger said.
The informant provided evidence that Tehran had halted its research into building a nuclear weapon, court papers said. Yet, when the operative sought to file reports, his attempts were "thwarted by CIA employees," the documents say.
CIA spokesman Paul Gimigliano declined to comment on the specifics but rejected the allegation about suppressed reports. "It would be wrong to suggest that agency managers direct their officers to falsify the intelligence they collect," he said.

Show AllHello....hello.... anyone there?
This is a broadcast in the blind to whomever FBI or other DHS/CIA staffer who is supposed to be looking for items of interest re: national security...
There is motive, opportunity and means for mischief at W's visit to Monticello this Friday, either by OBL or Cheney& Co, or whoever the latest, greatest new enemy is, to give us another false-flag "attack" that would put Dick in the WH, cancel the election of the blackish man with the funny middle name, and give the MIC the excuse they want to blast Iran.
Quick!! Go Stop Them!!! It was announced last week and the state republicans said right away they had other plans and wouldn't be there.
Call me a concerned citizen. Call me a conspiracy freak. Call me nuts, I don't care, but the junior detective and dot-connector in me compelled me to write.
Good luck and God save the US of A!!
What's new? Tenet proclaims it will be a "Slam Dunk," sits behind Powell at the UN, and Retire with honor(medal of freedom).
The un-named man who told the truth and tried to do the right thing was fired. Uuummm................
And we KNEW the Russian's were all ten feet tall...
This is IMPORTANT: Please contact your Reps. & Senators to oppose Resolution 362!
This is sponsored by Voters for Peace;
Oppose Resolution 362
The resolution's key section "demands that the president initiate an international effort to immediately and dramatically increase the economic, political, and diplomatic pressure on Iran to verifiably suspend its nuclear enrichment activities by prohibiting the export to Iran of all refined petroleum products; imposing stringent inspection requirements on all persons, vehicles, ships, planes, trains, and cargo entering or departing Iran; and prohibiting the international movement of all Iranian officials not involved in negotiating the suspension of Iran's nuclear program."
This resolution essentially calls for an act of war – a naval blockade of Iran. If passed by the Congress and Bush does what is asked it ensures war with Iran. Iran is three times the size of Iraq. If you think the Iraq war and occupation have been bad, wait till you see what war with Iran brings.

If we flood their inboxes, maybe we can prevent THIS war!
I don't know if this administration can play the fear card as easily this time to garner support to invade Iran. Israel may well play a key role with their own pre-emptive attack, at least on the nuclear building site in Iran. Of course we would then have to support Israel if Iran struck back at Israel. There has to be some heavey drama regardless.....and it would seem the drama would need to "play" out before this administration leaves office, especially if McCain loses his presendential bid. No, we don't have the money to "do" another war. As it is, our economy relies on foreign powers and that in itself is problematic. If China or Russia (for instance), pulled their financial support from the USA, we would have economic disaster. Americans it would seem would rather depend on these foreign powers to support us, then to pay our own debts.....Is no one paying attention? We have spent almost a trillion dollars in Iraq & Afghanistan.....money we dish out from taxes....supposedly. We don't have the money! Our taxes do not begin to cover our debts. We have big problems here in the USA and this administration does not care.
For those of you who thought that George Tenet leaving the CIA would make everything roses and dafodills, think again.
Doncha know that CIA stands for Corruption is Absolute.
I would not suggest that the election of a Democratic president would clean up all that has been going on under our noses for the past eight years but it's gotta be a step in the right direction.
Obama stepping into the oval office is not going to cure the do nothing congress. Barack placing his hand on the bible and taking the oath of office is not going to miraculously cause Pelosi, Reed, Conyers and the lot to suddenly develop a spine.
The obvious alternative is to elect John McCain.
Some people, Democrats included are somewhat hesitant to throw their full support behing Senator Obama because of his age and the short time that he has spent in the U. S. Senate. They will even go on to speculate as to not knowing what we'll be getting with him.
That might be true, whereas if we elect John McCain we can be absolutely certain of what well be getting; things will either stay the same or more than likely get worse.
I think it's a relatively simple choice to be made.... but remember, you've only got one chance to make it.
Proof that our government is only honest and forthcoming. Truth is not threatened. Another clear reason to eliminate the Second Amendment.
Iran, as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty has the same international rights of the other 188 signatory countries. Its right to develop nuclear power based on enriched uranium is guaranteed. It also has the right to enrich uranium or to buy enriched uranium from other NNPT signatories.
There are only four countries that have refused to sign the NNPT and are officially "rogue nuclear nations." They are North Korea (actually NK had signed, but pulled out when Bush abrogated the Agreed Framework), Pakistan, India, and Israel.
All of these four rogue countries are in noncompliance with U.N. resolutions. All of these four countries actually have nuclear weapons (three have tested them openly). All of these four countries refuse to allow any international inspections.
Yet, it is Iran, that the Bush lunatics want to go to war against despite no actual evidence that they have a military program currently, and a preponderance of expert opinions that they could not develop this sort of weapons technology for 10 to 15 years.
Meanwhile, Bush negotiates with North Korea, showers Pakistan and Israel with advanced weaponry, and is trying to give India advanced nuclear technology, equipment, and even highly enriched uranium.
The Bushies have the cart before the horse as usual. They start of with the compulsion to invade Iran for their own ideological reasons, and then try to build up a public case of circumstancial, speculative, and just plain false evidence to provide their pretext and to frighten the American people (those who still haven't figured out their games) into supporting yet another illegal invasion of a country that is not threatening us and for which there is no evidence of wrongdoing against us.
The time is running out for the Bushies if, as is likely, their sockpuppet John McCain is going to lose in November.
Should that be likely, I, for one, would not be overly surprised to see Bush fake a pretext (including a possible false-flag terrorist attack on the U.S.), start a war with Iran, and then declare martial law and insist that we must postpone the presidential election due in November.
Any bets?
The CIA was only following orders from the former Secretary of War, Darth Cheney.
It doesn't matter what anyone in our intelligence concludes regarding Iran's legal right to nuclear development. Israel and the Israel lobbyist are calling the shots on this one and our cowardly congress critters are lining up for their star of david stamp of approval. It just blows me away to actually believe that a nation a tad larger than New Jersey has the power to supress facts that may ultimately, lead us to another conflict with Iran. We can't even afford Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia let alone Iran. Unfortunately I see the passage of Congressional Resolution 362 and Senate Resolution 580 as a run-up to an illegal pre-emptive attack on Iran.
"falsify" or "suppress"?
