Most violence in protests is started by the Police... either directly by rushing the crowd, or indirectly by covert provocateurs... The Police represent the establishment, not you and I. Therefore, protesters should come outfitted in 'police style' riot gear...

funny how this seems to now be a regular occurance in our so called democracy of fascist dictators.

Its my money on two fronts. A) I'm a taxpayer in Denver. B) There's always a ton of federal money given out as 'grants' for this sort of stuff.

As a citizen of Denver, I love the idea that my government refuses to say what they are doing. This of course removes all notion of a democracy from the equation. Citizens aren't allowed to know what is going on, so they can't comment or object. And it makes elections a rather meaningless exercise as its impossible for citizens to evaluate what the elected officials are doing.

I'd guess Denver is going to be in line behind say Seattle and NYC in paying out million dollar plus settlements to protesters who's rights are violated. Its just that this doesn't happen until a couple of years after the even when the lawsuits go to court.

One of the groups that is organizing protests (www.recreate68.org) meets at a coffee shop in a neighborhood where a friend lives. That means that on every Thursday night I see plainclothes detectives from some agency sitting outside monitoring who goes and comes to the meetings.

Welcome to freedom, American style. I'm pretty sure the police don't compile databases on who goes to Young Republican club meetings.

Yes!

Technically, there are at least two groups organizing protests. And my past experience around conventions is that there will be numerous protests each with different themes covering a lot of these areas.

so, the short answer to your list is a simple "YES".

Or for me, the over-riding reason to protest is to protest the fact that the Democratic party has become a party that only represents the corporations and their big contributors. Which means that the rest of us have lost what used to be (years ago) the opposition party that represented our interests.

But, since that covers all of the above, the short answer is still "Yes".

The Bush-fascists in power are giving the Denver cops a ray gun which is going to be used to kill people. When old, young, women, children are penned up in an area designated for peasants, a police provoceteur (agent) in the crowd will throw some stuff at the cops...on a signal, the cops will lob hundreds of exploding pepper spray balls into the crowd causing a lot of choking and disorientation, this will be the trigger for the federal secret police to instruct Denver cops (co-conspirators)to turn the ray gun on the crowd. The rays turn the body's surface temperature to 130 degrees instantly, so hundreds, perhaps thousands of our fellow citizens will be trampled to death in the ensuing chaos. It will be a spectacle a thousand times more exciting than the thrill killing of young Jeff Tuax in a Colfax Avenue bar parking lot by a couple of out-of-control trigger-happy half-wit rollers a few years back. Folks, the price of freedom is eternal vigilance. Get vigilant.

As a Denver resident I'm excited that the DNC Convention is going to be held in my City,I'm also a liberal Democrat and plan on voting in November for Barack Obama should he get the nomination. But I am also frightened at the same time that my city may be exposed to rioting that causes property damage or worse,bodily harm to folks who want to express their rightful voice in protesting the many issues that have hurt my country and the world at large. If, what I have heard second hand, that Rush Limbaugh has urged folks to come to Denver and start riots, I hope he is held liable for any deaths or destruction that might follow.

I would like to see a peaceful Convention where folks can come to Denver protest if they like and enjoy our hospitality while the Convention is going on.Please do come to Denver I think you'd like our city. By all means, go to Denver if you have the time and explain to the friendly policeman that you carry your free speech rights with you wherever you go and that you will not check them at a 'free speech area'.

But also keep in mind that there is not likely to be one thing, one action or one demonstration that accomplishes meaningful change. The day to day, week to week kind of organizing and education of others is more important, more difficult to subvert, and ultimately more useful.

Your attendance at a big demonstration, whether in Denver or D.C., is no substitute for the real work that must happen on a local level. Organize!
