Thus taken together, it seems plausible the weapon is derived to use in urban US centers as food riots begin with food supplies not getting to the shelves. From my time at protests, odds are if they are 'coming at you', it may be just because people behind them are pushing them forward and they don't really have much choice on which way they are going.

Testing was done on subjects in good health, not those with heart conditions or other problems. You also must consider repeated taser use and tasering by multiple tasers. Many people are shocked by house current every day and the great majority of them are not killed by it, but many others are. Many factors come into play in electrocution such as the environment at the time (wet, dry, ground path etc.) and the physical condition of the person (skin resistance, sweat, heart condition, etc.). Tasers ARE being misused by police officers, as anyone with half a brain knew they would be, and it IS KILLING PEOPLE, PERIOD.

Dear cdcensor and other Taser critics.

AI is wrong. While it is true that people have died after the Taser was used, there is no established causal relationship. People die after reading your words. Are you willing to accept responsibility for those deaths as well?

More to the point. There have been over 100,000 people exposed to Taser in training and by volunteering (I'm one of those). Of those >100,000 people, ZERO (0) have died following the use of Taser. If Taser were a primary causal agent, or even a contributary agent in death, one would expect to find at least a small number of fatalities in that group. They don't exist.

Therefore, the common factor in post-Taser incident deaths, is engaging in criminal activity. Quite frequently they have already ingested a lethal dose of illegal drugs. (dead man walking) The other commonly experienced factor is fighting with police. Both are potentially harmful, but done at the volition of the suspect. AI (and the ICRC, HRW, and ACLU) just report totals and erroneously attribute the cause of death.

Another tool of torture, just like the taser. This monstrous device will be making its way onto U.S. streets probably before too long, and will be simply another government weapon in the war of terror against U.S citizens (those anti-war protester types like you and me) who merely want a redress of grievances and the right to public assembly and protest. The zap from the taser, like the burn from this raygun, causes intense pain (I've not experienced it myself, but have heard about it, of course), all before the arrest, conviction and punishment, quite a lot of due process missing there. Even if you were tried and convicted of something, torture is still cruel and unusual punishment, even if used in prisons. I was told about particle beam weapons and hi-intensity microwave weapons long ago by a very reliable source.
The system that I was told about however, was part of the new stealth aircraft carrier (recently revealed). It uses the beam technology as an anti-ballistic weapon. This is the catch, it is a speed of light weapon. Via satellite triangulation, an incoming missile can be tracked (located) in 3D space an instantly destroyed. A significant thing about Active Denial Systems is that they burn soft tissue like eyeballs. And fetuses can be harmed quite a bit by high powered microwaves. All the fine tuning has not been completed on these weapons. Extended exposure actually burns the skin quite a bit. What about people trampled and injured in the rapid escape of crowds. What about infants in strollers who can not escape, people in buildings nearby who cannot escape the "spray" of intense microwaves.
